Lost time

Summary:

It had only been a bit over a year after Voldemorts defeat, but Harry still felt lost. He did what any normal teenager would do after the hell he'd been through. He broke down. He rebelled. It was the only way he felt he had control of his life, but even then, it wasn't enough.

Then he was presented another way, he could change everything. But as always, there would be a price.

Or

Harry gets thrown back it time to his school years, becomes a professor and changes events.

Notes:

Hi! Sorry about this being short. I know it isn't well written, but I've tried my best and any advice would be appreciated! This will probably be updated every couple of days if not weekly.

Chapter Text

It had been a week since Harry was given a change to change it all, and in that week he had accomplished a lot.

Firstly he had to build an identity for himself, he couldn't go around claiming to be the second Harry Potter. People would thing he was crazy. So he went to the first place he could think of, Gringotts, the only wizarding bank in Britain.

So you can understand how suprised he'd been when he'd taken an inheritance test only to find out his identity had been changed.

He sat nervously in his chair as he watched the parchment hed previously spilt his blood on fill out, fidgeting with his hands. Once it had finished writing he took the parchment, taking a moment before reading it.

Harry's.. No Hadrians eyes widened in suprise, before passing the parchment to the goblin.

And that is how Hadrian required the Lordship ring that sat comfortably on his finger, the Peverell familys crest on display.

He had done a lot more in that week, such as getting suitable clothes and a better living arrangement, but most importantly applying for the job as defence against the dark arts teacher at Hogwarts.

He knew it was going to be difficult, having to teach so many children he'd once seen die. On top of the fact the position was cursed and he only had a year to get rid of the curse. He chose the position as the DADA teacher in hopes of Quirrell remaining as the Muggle studies teacher to limit contact between the man and his younger self.

Now that was another problem. There was two of him. He had to keep Harry safe, but he couldn't do that with Harry at the Dursleys, he needed a way to get him out of there and to better living arrangements. He still didn't know how he was going to achieve that.

But now it was finally the day he had been dreading, September 1st, the day school began. He, like many new teachers had done in the past, decided he wanted to ride on the train with the students. He thought it might at least help him build trust with his younger self so they could be on better terms. If he was going to be honest he may want to influence Harry's house choice. Don't get him wrong, he loved Gryffindor, but the house turned on him as soon as he didn't anything wrong, he let them influence his views on the other houses. He just wanted to stop himself from making his past mistakes.

It was early in the morning, the platform nearly empty as he boarded the train. Finding a compartment to sit in, claiming it as his own. He set his suitcase down as he sat in his chair. He was already starting to regret his choice to get there early, to pass the time he got put a book on magical creatures. It was one he'd read many times before, but it never got less interesting.

He was interrupted by the sound of the compartments door being opened.

"Oh sorry! I didn't know you were in here" The boy said quickly, Hadrian looked over to assure him he was okay to only see it was Harry Potter.

"Its fine, I'm guessing you're a first year? I'm sure the other compartments are full by now, you can come sit in here if you'd like." Hadrian noticed how tense Harry was, though the boy did sit down opposite him.

"I'm Hadrian Peverell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at hogwarts."

Harry perked up "Really!? I started to read the books for this year and Defense Against the Dark Arts was the subject I was looking forward to." He said excitedly, quieting down once hed realised his volume.

"Oh really? Well I'm sure you'll love it, what house do you think you'll sort into?" Hadrian asked, interested to see his response. He knew Harry hadn't had the best introduction to the wizarding world, not that Hagrid meant to mess up, it was just that the man wast suited for the job. It should've been a proper professor.

Harry hesitated before answering "Well.. I heard my parents were Gryffindors, so I'll probably be one too. Though I would be happy with any house, maybe not slytherin.." Harry shrugged

"And why not Slytherin? It's a great house, honestly if I went to Hogwarts I'd probably have sorted there." He said with a small smile, he'd checked his records only to see in this world he went to Durmstrang.

"You didn't go to Hogwarts sir? But I thought it was the only wizarding school." He frowned, confused.

Hadrian sighed, he knew it wasn't Harry's fault but the boy was so clueless. "There are many other magical schools, I went to Durmstrang, though I did consider Hogwarts for a while." He explained. He saw Harry's confusion turn into intrest.

They spent the rest of the ride to Hogwarts speaking about other Magical schools, what would happen in DADA and other school related subjects. They were occasionally interrupted, but the people seemed to go away quickly once realising there was a professor there.

He followed the older years up to hogwarts, leaving the first years to trueley experience magic. He wished he could experience it again for the first time, it was an experience he couldn't even put into words. He joined the other professors up at their table where he'd been sat next to Snape.

"So Hadrian, you're quite a bit younger than everyone here, barely out of schooling yourself. What made you want to he a professor?" Asked McGonagall, or Minerva as he'd been told to call her, she was trying to make small talk before the first years arrived.

"Well when I was younger I had my heart set on becoming an Auror, it was only until my 5th year i decided differently. That year id started a study group of sorts where i learnt of my passion of teaching and helping others." He said, reminiscing the bittersweet memories.

He didn't have long before he was pulled out of his thoughts by the first years entering, making there way slowly in what seemed to be a line.

"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,

Your top hats sleek and tall,

For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat

And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head

The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you

Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave at heart,

Their daring, nerve, and chivalry

Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true

And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

if you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin

You'll make your real friends,

Those cunning folks use any means

To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

Not long after that names started being called "Abbot, Hannah!" Was called first, Hadrian was uninterested and only half listened until kne name was called out.

"Potter, Harry!"

The hall went silent. Them a fury of whispers could be heard ranging from "as in the Harry Potter?!" to "He's so small!"

Harry stepped out of the small crowd of students, walking over and sitting on the stool as the too big hat was placed on his head. He was startled when the thing started to speak.

'Hmm, difficult. VERY difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There's talent, oh yes. And a thirst to prove yourself. But where to put you?'

The thing is after speaking to Professor Peverell about higwarts houses Harry didn't mind where he was put, he would be happy to be anywhere.

'Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, there's no doubt about that. It's where you'll find true friends.'

True friends. Something Harry had always wanted, but had been denied of. Whether it was because of him being antisocial or his cousin just scaring people off, Harry had never had a true friend.

"Hmm.. Well let it be..SLYTHERIN!"

Silence. No one said anything, no one even clapped. Harry shrunk in on himself as tbe hat was lifted off his head, until someone started clapping. It was Professor Peverell, the shock started to wear off and people joined in. Harry made his way over to the Slytherin table, sitting down at the end.

Hadrian was worried, the sorting was taking a while. He just hoped that Harry wouldn't fight the hat on its placement. Waiting was never something he was good at, he was growing impatient. That is when he heard it.

"Hmm.. Well let it be..SLYTHERIN!"

He could tell the people in the hall were in shock, no one was clapping. He took in upon himself to start clapping first. He noticed how Harry seemed to curl into himself with the silence, he prompted the other Professors to start clapping along with him, and they did.

The sorting proceeded normally after that, Hadrian spent the rest of the afternoon glancing over at Harry to see if he was okay, it was then he noticed a boy, Blaise Zabini, his mind supplied, pointing up at the table to each teacher to show Harry who they were.
