Sports - A Lumity OS

Summary:

Work Text:

That girl playing sports was everything for her. Her lilac hair danced when she was moving left to right and right to left with the ball, obliterating every of her opponents. Her fierce stare locked on the opposite camp’s net as she was pushing the ball forward with her foot.

And she was cheering for her, only for her. Like there was no-one in that stadium. Just her and that cotton-candy haired goddess, the forehead prickling with sweat as she spun to dodge a defender. The crowd was holding their breath as she was pushing the ball further on the pitch.

Luz’s eyes were sparkling in awe. Who knew her girlfriend would be so good at soccer? Probably Luz. Because she knew her girlfriend was so good at everything. She watched her as she took some run-up to hit the ball with the interior of her foot. She thought she was going for a shoot. But instead, she lifted the ball. Luz looked at it, flying above the pitch, then at Amity, aiming her leg for the net. She shot it, mid-air, with a fierce glare. The ball flew like a cannonball across the pitch, past the goalkeeper and ended up in the top corner.

The crowd exploded with joy; Luz exulted. She couldn’t be prouder of her girlfriend. She wanted to run on the field and spin her around to congratulate her. But she had to grin and bear it, be happy with the wide grin she was offering her as she celebrated her goal.

A few minutes later, the referee gave a whistle blow and the game resumed. The opponent team, now in a tough spot, were harsher and pushed Amity’s team in their half of the pitch. This resulted in four fouls in five minutes. Luz had to helplessly witness the frowning face of her girlfriend, shouting orders to her teammates.

Yet she was so beautiful. And so powerful.

She was amazing.

And she was...

The crowd suddenly gasped and Luz stood up from her bench. She ran down the stands to the old white barriers circling the pitch. She didn’t care that she had no right to cross them and made her way to where Amity had fallen. The lilac-haired girl was holding her ankle with an aching face.

The referee gave a whistle blow, and a medical team ran towards her, along with Luz. The Dominican girl was the first one to arrive near her girlfriend.

“Amity,” she yelled.

The lilac-haired girl grunted and lifted her head to offer a bright but fake smile to her girlfriend. “Looks like I’ve fallen.”

“Are you okay?” Luz cried out.

Amity rolled her eyes with a genuine smile this time. “Yeah, it’s just a small injury, I’m f-” She swore and stumbled as she tried to put her foot on the ground.

“Don’t move, batata!”

“I said I'm fine!” She tried to get up once more but just managed to fall, face flat in the grass.

The medical team brought a stretcher to evacuate the team’s captain. Luz held her hand and accompanied her outside the pitch. The game resumed but Luz did not care. She had only eyes for Amity.

“I can’t believe it happened to me, again,” she whined, holding her ankle.

“It’s probably nothing, just a bruise,” one of the medical team indicated.

“So, I can go back?” Amity asked, her voice tinged with hope.

The man shook his head and Amity’s face crumpled. “I’m sorry,” he said, “you should probably get out of the pitch for a few days at least. It’s not a serious bruise but it can become one.”

“Fine,” Amity grunted; Luz squeezed her hand.

She was given a pair of crutches to walk back home anyway, just to be sure. Luz did not like the crutches as she couldn’t slip her hand in Amity’s. Amity winced when she sat on the Owl House’s old couch, her injured foot resting on a cushion. Luz brought her a cup of cocoa and sat beside her.

“It’s just like Grudgby,” she grumbled. “I’ve hurt myself again.”

“Yet, you were amazing.”

“Doesn’t matter, I can’t play anymore.”

“What are you talking about?” Luz frowned.

“I’ve sprained my ankle, it’s over.”

“Hey.” She rested a hand on Amity’s cheek, their eyes lock. “It’s just a small injury. You’ll be back on your feet in no time!”

“Yes, but what if the team doesn’t need me anymore?” she sniffed. “What if they realise, I’m not a good player and they decide to get rid of me because I’ve injured myself?”

“Then they would be stupid because they’re no one as good as you. You were like the best. You were shining on that pitch, you were amazing.”

“Yeah, but what about them?”

Luz shook her head. “Screw them if they can’t see how good you are,” Luz retorted; Eda gave a nod from across the room. “If they can’t see what I see in you, then they’re don’t deserve you.”

“Oh...” Amity bit her lip as a smile was forming. “Thank you,” she murmured.

“Besides, if they don’t need you, I wonder how they’ll keep on winning.”

Amity chuckled and a comfortable silence settled in, only broke by the lilac-haired girl who cupped Luz’s jaw. “Though I don’t want them to see what you see in me. That means you’ll have to share me and that’s the last thing I want.”

The crest of Luz’s cheeks turned pink. “Yeah... well... as long as they think you’re amazing, that’s enough for me.”

“We can agree on this,” Amity beamed and leaned on to offer a soft kiss.

“Ew, feelings,” Eda grunted. “If you need me, I’ll be in the kitchen.” She got up as Luz and Amity separated, with a silly grin and red cheekbones.

“Do you think I’ll end up like her if I keep playing sports?” Amity wondered.

“Titan, I hope not,” Luz laughed, “both Realms aren’t wide enough for two Edas.”

Amity giggled, soon followed by Luz.

When they stopped, the atmosphere was electric. They were looking at each other with endearment, letting the spirit of their love wrapping them, the trail of stardust in their hearts growing until they reach other in a warm embrace. Luz tucked a strand of lilac hair behind Amity’s ear and close the gap between their mouths. Butterflies flew as they came closer to each other, Amity’s jock arms wrapped around Luz’s waist.

That girl playing sports was everything for her. Her life wouldn’t be the same without that cotton-candy haired goddess. Her heart was cheering for her, only for her. Because wherever Amity would be, Luz would be at her side, cheering for her, that’s where she wanted to be. At her girlfriend’s side. Forever.
