Chapter Text
Kaku was going insane.
Or at least, that’s what the rest of the group told him. Kaku swore that pigeon was gaslighting him, red eyes staring down at him from Lucci’s shoulder, feigning ignorance of his suffering. Kaku’s eyes narrowed as Hattori picked up the glass of bourbon its master left it with its wing and took a swig. Kaku slowly sipped from his own glass, staring unblinkingly at the odd albino pigeon.
“I’m pretty sure birds can’t drink alcohol.” Kaku said to an apathetic Lucci.
Just to spite him and everything he stood for, Hattori chugged the rest of the bourbon, and flew off Lucci’s shoulder with the tiny glass in its claws, landing on the dinner table with a thud.
Lucci’s face remained neutral. He didn’t even look at Kaku as he answered his question, eyes too focused on his beloved pet pigeon preening on the table.
“Hattori can.” He said simply, his focus back on his dinner.
Kaku gripped the fork a bit too hard. “That does not answer my question and you know it.” He said through gritted teeth.
Then he looked disapprovingly towards Hattori that was walking around in front of him on the table, slowly inching its way towards the glass of alcohol he had sat down. “-and get off the table.” Kaku added, trying to shoo it away from his bourbon which proved unsuccessful.
Hattori just looked at him, tilting its head in confusion. Or at least that’s what it tried. Kaku KNEW Hattori could understand him, he also KNEW that it just didn’t want to listen to him. Kaku huffed, leaning back in his chair, glaring down at the pigeon as it stuck its beak into his glass.
Lucci looked down at Hattori, gesturing for it to come back on his shoulder. “No claws on the dinner table, Hattori. Come here.”
Immediately; Hattori obeyed and flew up and landed on his shoulder again, nuzzling into Lucci’s neck. He gave Hattori a good petting, approving of its obedience. “Good, Tori” he said, the corner of his lips going upwards in a small, almost unnoticeable smile. Kaku swore he could see hearts in the eyes of that pigeon, and it nuzzled closer to him, cooing softly. Then it looked over to him with the most smug look he's ever seen on a bird. Could birds even make that expression? It reminded him of Lucci when he was in his full leopard form, fully an animal, yet there was something uncanny and *wrong*.
Kaku felt the grip on his fork tighten even more, slightly bending in his grasp. That damn pigeon.
