It was a cat, lying motionless in the middle of the road. Its fur was matted and dirty, and its eyes were open wide, staring up at the sky.
For a moment, I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The sight of the cat was like a punch to the gut, a reminder of the darkness that lurked just beneath the surface of our idyllic village.
And then, suddenly, I heard a voice behind me. "Oh god. That poor kitty."
I whirled around, my heart racing. It was Seokjin, standing a few feet away, eyes filling up with tears as he stared at the cat. The corpse.
