Work Text:

Vedika took a deep breath and looked herself in the mirror one more time. This was possibly the most nerve-wracking thing she had ever done, which was saying something given everything. She gave herself a serious look across the glass. “You got this. You asked Bud for advice and notes. Then you asked Harley for advice on Bud’s advice after it seemed a bit too crazy. You’ve practiced over and over. You can do this.”

The bell rang, and Vedika took one more deep breath before she walked back out into the hall to wait. After the longest five minutes of her life, a small, silver-haired girl walked past her and she held up a hand.

“Zoe! Are you, uh, headed to club.”

Zoe nodded. “Y-yeah. You going too?”

Vedika smiled and nodded. “Wanna walk together?”

The smaller girl smiled and nodded, and the two headed out. Vedika noticed her fidgeting a bit, though she couldn’t tell if this was normal or unusual. Sometimes she wondered what was going on in that beautiful head of hers. Catching herself, she shook her head and took a breath.

“So, uh, do you have any plans for the prom?”

Zoe jumped slightly in surprise. “Oh, uh, is that the big dance thing?” Vedika nodded and Zoe nodded back. “Um, I wasn’t really planning to go. Since, uh, no one had asked me. You?”

“Well, um, I was wondering, I was top of the class again this semester –“

“Congrats!”

“Thanks. Um, anyways, as a prize I got these tickets to the Prom, and I was wondering. I mean, I was hoping, uh, would you like to go with me?”

They stopped walking. Zoe turned to look at her, red in the face, and Vedika held her breath. Then Zoe leaned forward and up to meet her.

She didn’t need to be able to read minds to know her answer.
