It was in a rare moment of solitude that Shuichi chose to fetch a dusty shoebox from the drawer he stowed it in. The lid was still taped down, untouched since it arrived. He read the note from his uncle back then, staring at the handwriting for ages in a desperate search for a spark of recognition, but the idea of opening the box had been too much at the time. Maybe it would still be too much. He wasn’t sure; all he could do was try.
