Work Text:
A single lone television sat in the woods, its whining drone echoing through the trees. No animal came near that spot, even they knew that the object was cursed. The TV stuttered on with its song, the blueish-gray static making a soft hissing noise. It wasn’t clear how long it had been here, but here it would stay.
That is, until a small child rocketed out of the screen like a lost pinball, flopping unceremoniously on the ground in an utterly undignified position. Untangling his limbs, the child known as Mono staggered to his feet, the bag crooked and showing half of his chin as he ran as fast as he could to the treeline. If anyone could see under the bag, they might notice the boy’s pupils dilating and constricting much faster than any sane human being would deem healthy. Since Mono didn’t have a mirror, and was almost certainly not sane, he didn’t care.
His bare feet scraping mud and twigs, Mono reached the branches that he knew all too well led to a passage. Bracing himself for what was about to come next, he squirmed his way through the tunnel out the other side, right as a loud CRACK sounded over his head, and the log behind him came tumbling down to bring Mono the Swift And Painful Death that generally came when you were run over with something the size of a truck. Starting up his run again, Mono’s thoughts were already flying far ahead, to the cabin where he would meet Six-
His right foot slipped, catching on the edge of a couple of sticks poking up from the ground. And just like that, Mono’s entire form stopped, freezing in place due to Non-Intentional Design. He was stuck.
About a second later, the log finished its intended purpose and crushed a small child. It must have been happy with doing that, because it stopped to rest a little earlier than it should have.
Well, that was the first time the log had killed him. Maybe he ought to give it a name. Something like…..
The world reset, and Doomatron the log was put back in its proper place, waiting again to be the honorable first scare in Mono’s race to the Pale City.
