Warriors

Summary:

I felt this powerful and beautiful song represented the IDW turtles and how they had to lose their childhood and become great warriors at such a young age in their past lives.

It's short but it's done with a lot of heart.

English is not my language so the translation may not be accurate. Comments are appreciated for any grammatical errors.

Notes:

While I believe that all ninja turtles in all universes have had a difficult childhood (growing up isolated is cruel and sad in itself), the IDW turtles not only had to grow up training to protect their lives but surely also had to kill and live on the run because of Shredder and the foot who lived hunting them.

This powerful song (either the Imagine Dragons or 2Wei and Edda Hayes version) I think honors them.

Work Text:

As a child, you would wait and watch from far away
But you always knew that you'd be the one
That work while they all play.

Four children. The youngest is just a baby and the oldest is no more than five years old, fleeing for their lives with their shattered father.

The flames devour in the distance what was once their home, along with the corpse of their beautiful and protective mother. She died for them and they in return cling to life with every breath they get.

On that day, four children joined the unfortunate ones who lost their innocence somewhere in the world.

In youth, you'd lay awake at night and scheme
Of all the things that you would change
But it was just a dream.

Four innocent little ones watch the powerful, knowing figure of their father. Filled with hatred and bitterness the honorable man leads his children through a desperate escape for their lives, but love gives him the strength to create the physical and mental weapons his children need.

Crying and cries cover the lands. Little angels give up their wings to replace them with armor, but in the end it doesn't matter, so warriors emerge.

Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town.

Children grow up with strength and honor. Soldiers forged through blood, valor and courage, but with cultivated hearts full of kindness and mercy.

Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town
From dust.

Who can blame the child who cries over his broken toy? Now he's been told to learn to hold a sword.

In the roulette of the many brave ones born from the tragic ashes of life, they were chosen for the same painful and chaotic fate.

Will come
When you will have to rise
Above the best and prove yourself
Your spirit never dies.

Four teenagers born in a time where wars, clans and magic dominate.
Soon, the gods themselves turn their gaze with curiosity and wonder to such disturbingly powerful souls.

They don't want pity. The young do not want the tears or words of comfort from those who know their history, for they know they will make no difference in the bloody trenches.

Farewell, I've gone to take my throne above
But don't weep for me
'Cause this will be the labor of my love

This is what it's like. Where many bathe in the blissful ignorance of children and their toys, elsewhere, the reality of little soldiers stain the lands red.

But weep not for these brave young men, evil and loneliness have no power over them. They lost their childhood, but not their most powerful weapon.

Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town.

The four brothers learned to scar their bodies and harden their souls. Where a lethal blow is aimed at one, another will protect his back.

Their young hands burn under their weapons and their gazes are full of wisdom and pain, but we speak of the heart of heroes and they do not know how to surrender to the enemy.

Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town
From dust.

And though death overtook them at last, there was no silence in their departure. The gods needed these child warriors to balance such a chaotic world.

So tears and painful apologies filled that execution before dark blood tinged that lost battle, but it was not a defeat.

It was a beginning...

Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town.

Four teenagers resound their familiar and lethal weapons in the dark night. Their fierce and brave souls were placed in new armor, but their same mighty spirits burn in their chests.

Why the battle was a fall, but now they return from the dust and will win the war.

Here we are, don't turn away now (don't turn away)
We are the warriors that built this town
From dust.

This is how warriors rise again.
