He thought it would feel good - amazing, even, to finally feel appreciated and admired in a way he had longed for since his creation. He thought it would make his thousands of years of rowing and nothing else worth it. To have someone finally acknowledge him. To comfort him and praise him, to tell him that he isn’t just a simple-minded creature, that he is loved, cared for, cherished. And yet-
It hurts.
Each time Hermes compliments him, an overwhelming, entirely unfamiliar pain shoots through his too-large body. It throbs. It burns. It hurts like nothing Charon has ever experienced.
