let’s pray we stay young, stay made of lightning

Summary:

“The storm isn't over!” Beomgyu was starting to get defensive. He just wanted to be in a safe space where the storm couldn’t hurt him, was that too much to ask for?

“Awn hyung,” Kai pouted “after that first night you could’ve told us to come to your place and we could’ve helped you! No reason to bother your neighbor for so long.” Sure, but also-

“Hueningie, didn’t you read the message? His neighbor is hot. He probably doesn’t plan on ever going back to his own apartment.” Alright Soobin, no reason to expose him like that in the hallway of this very populated building.

“I do plan on going back! Once the storm ends!” Soobin gave him a look of disbelief. “But, for now, I need you guys’ help moving my couch into his apartment.”

Beomgyu is terrified of the big storm and seeks comfort in his hot neighbor’s apartment.

Chapter 1: The Cumulus Stage

Chapter Text

It started as a small rain. Drops of water would hit the window calmly, in a relaxing way even, but still with a certain firmness. Almost telling Beomgyu not to worry too much, but also not to worry too little. Beomgyu wasn’t scared.

Then, the wind started howling at him, distant at first but growing nearer. He didn’t know which one of the four Greek wind Gods he pissed off, but he was starting to regret picking out the small pieces of tomato from the Greek salad he ate last Thursday. Beomgyu still wasn’t scared.

A bright light flashed, nearly burning his pupils, followed by a strong rumble that immediately reminded Beomgyu of someone waking him up with a drum roll next to his ear. He has Hueningkai to thank for that memory. He loved the kid, he really did, however his passion for showing Beomgyu how well he played every instrument known to men, on godforsaken hours, was, by far, his least favorite personality trait of Kai. Beomgyu jumped a little on the couch, caught off guard by another loud sound. He stared at the window like it betrayed him for not giving him any heads up about the thunder. He noticed the rain picking up the pace, hitting hard against the glass of his window, almost like every little drop was horrified of what was coming and wanted to hide in the safety of his house. Sorry little water drops but you’re not coming in. Beomgyu was starting to get scared.

Another lightning strike, another thunder noise. Beomgyu was no meteorologist, but he heard somewhere that the smaller the gap between the light and sound of the lightning, the closer the storm was. He couldn’t even count one second between the events. He realized that he didn’t anger any Greek wind God, but the Norse thunder God, Thor. Maybe because the only reason he watched Avengers was to thirst over Chris Hemsworth? He’s not sure if that’s a sin in the eyes of the actual Thor, but he’s totally deleting every illegally downloaded Marvel movie from his pc. Beomgyu was completely terrified.

As the lightning got more and more constant, Beomgyu grew more and more afraid. He wanted to hide under his warm blanket and pretend he was just in a very dark and very noisy party, but he feared that the FBI agent watching him would judge him and start putting unskippable ads for adult diapers on his Youtube. So, he did the only option left.

He found himself in his neighbor’s front door. He moved to his current apartment over two weeks ago, long enough to not get lost in the building, but not long enough to get to know the neighbors. He saw an old lady and her loud ass chihuahua one time and that’s it. He knew no other neighbors. Pathetic, he knew. But now disaster struck and he had no other choice but to bother the person that lived in the apartment next to him. Well, he had other options, but his friends decided to ignore his spam of messages and phone calls begging them to keep him company.

One more thunder drove Beomgyu to the edge and he knocked on the door, feeling proud of himself because of his bravery. A brave boy wouldn’t be knocking on the neighbor’s door because he’s scared of a storm, but that’s not relevant right now.

The door opened revealing... collarbones? And a neck? No, not just a neck, a pretty neck. It was long an- Someone coughed. Beomgyu looked slightly up and saw an (very) attractive man standing awkwardly. “Can I help you?” Beomgyu ignored him, a little angry for having his thoughts interrupted. He looked at the slippers of the young man and slowly eyed up, evaluating his long legs. So that’s why the first thing he saw was his neck, the dude was tall, long as hell. After his discovery, he met the man’s foxy eyes again. This time however, there was a certain glee in them, an almost flirtatious shine. “Are you perhaps checking me out?” He smiled. He had a pretty smile too. And voice. Beomgyu kinda hated him already.

It's not that he was checking him out per say, he was just surprised that this random man was taller than him. Both his best friends were, in fact, taller than Beomgyu, but on a daily basis, it’s not a common occurrence to see a human taller than him... or maybe that’s just a dumb excuse and he was indeed checking him out. Who knows?

“Do you have power in your apartment?” Yes, Beomgyu knew he ignored the attractive dude twice now, but what was he supposed to say? ‘Oh yes, I was indeed checking you out young sir! Now please cuddle me for I was frightened by the storm’.

The pretty neck long legged fox man looked confused at the sudden question but nodded and muttered a small ‘Yeah’.

“You do? Ugh. I live in the apartment next door and I’m out of power! It’s probably because of this stupid storm.” His neighbor looked even more confused. “I was watching ‘Boys Planet’ on my laptop, but it ran out of battery, and now I’m bored out of my mind! Could I please charge it in your apartment for a little while? It won’t be long! I’m just worried this storm will last for too long and I’ll just be bored for the rest of the night.” Beomgyu’s puppy eyes were usually enough to make people say yes to him, but this boy didn’t seem like an average human, so he decided to add a small pout to the mix, just to be safe.

“Hm, sure.” Well, that was easy.

“Great! I’ll bring my laptop over! Thank you so mu-” Lightning struck. Beomgyu jumped. He wanted to play it cool, like he didn’t just about piss his pants over a thunder noise. Though, since he had his eyes wide open and looked completely mortified, playing cool wasn’t exactly an easy thing to do. Therefore, he decided to just laugh it off and head over to his apartment to pick up his laptop, before his neighbor could say anything else. Now Beomgyu was thinking how the other man didn’t even flinch at the loud thunder. Yap, he’s not human.

On his way back to his neighbor’s apartment, laptop in hand, he noticed that the nice hot boy left the door open for him to enter. Awn.

Beomgyu was about to knock on the open door, as a warning that he’s coming in, when something caught his eye, or rather the lack of something. His neighbor’s apartment was... empty? Well, not completely, there was a fluffy gray blanket on the living room floor, a small round table with two chairs, a microwave, a small fridge and two pet bowls next to it, but that was it. The apartment had the same layout as his, so he felt like he entered a time portal and went back two weeks ago, before he moved into his apartment. Beomgyu checked the date on his phone, okay nevermind he didn’t time-travel. So why was his neighbor’s home so bare? As he slowly closed the door behind him and moved inside, he wondered if someone took advantage of the open door and stole from his neighbor.

“Don’t worry, my home wasn’t robbed.” Beomgyu jumped for the nth time that day. On his defense, he was still overly agitated over the storm, a kitten meowing could’ve scared him at that point. But most importantly, was Beomgyu really that readable or did his neighbor actually read thoughts? The second option sounds about right. He’s unhuman.

“Unhuman? Most people just call me Yeonjun.” Fuck he thought out loud. Maybe this Yeonjun dude wasn’t a mind reader after all, maybe Beomgyu was just a dummy that couldn’t tell apart thoughts from verbal communication.

“Hm... and what do the rest of the people call you?”

“The rizz master.” Yeonjun stared for four seconds until he started laughing at Beomgyu’s blank expression. A really nice dorky laugh. “I’m just kidding!” Beomgyu continued blankly staring at him, that lame joke physically hurting him. “Well, my mom calls me healing.” The cute smile Yeonjun gave him afterwards made Beomgyu immediately forgive him.

“Does your mom know her healing son is telling people he just met to call him The rizz master?”

“W-wait,” Yeonjun choked. “I didn’t say that at all.” Beomgyu giggled, embarrassment was a good look on his neighbor. Although, he has the feeling that everything is a good look on that individual.

“I’m Beomgyu by the way! And yeah, I noticed how empty your apartment is. Did you just move in like me?”

“I’ve been living here for over one year now, but I’m a broke college student and I see no point in wasting money on unnecessary stuff. I just need a bathroom, a bed and a microwave to survive.” Beomgyu admired that, he couldn’t last a day without his precious couch where he sleeps his afternoon naps. Beomgyu hummed in response, still looking around at the emptiness of the living room.

An awkward silence started settling in. Beomgyu hated awkward silences.

“It’s getting la-”

“So where ca-”

“You can speak first.” Yeonjun said with a pretty smile.

“I was just asking where I could charge my laptop.” Beomgyu awkwardly laughed. He didn’t need the laptop for anything, but since it was his original excuse, he should keep the acting.

“You can plug it in that socket over there.” He pointed at a socket next to the big window of the living room. Beomgyu saw the torrential rain hitting the glass and immediately shivered. “Are you cold?” Yeonjun lightly touched his shoulder, looking worried. But before Beomgyu could process an answer, Yeonjun was already picking up the fluffy blanket from the floor. He offered him the blanket, while Beomgyu just stared at the big piece of fabric confused with the random act of kindness. Not that Beomgyu was complaining of course.

“Thank you.” Beomgyu said, sounding way more emotional than he would like to. “Your mom is right, you sure are healing.” Beomgyu enjoyed how that made Yeonjun lost for words, because he didn’t seem like the type to get silent easily. Beomgyu put the warm blanket on his shoulders and dropped down to the floor to plug in his laptop. A ray of light hit the window followed by a roaring thunder, the perfect reminder that he needed to come up with a plan to get away from that window asap. “So, what were you saying before?”

“Oh, just that it’s getting late, and I need to wake up early for class tomorrow, so I might shower and then head to bed. Do you mind being left alone for a few minutes?”

Yes. Yes. Yes. He did mind being alone, the whole point of Beomgyu coming here was getting some company at this very difficult time. “No! Of course not, I’ll just keep watching today’s ‘Boys Planet’ episode!” Beomgyu tried to sound as unaffected as possible, but his voice broke a little bit between the sentence. Yeonjun stood in silence for a few seconds before heading to the kitchen sink. Beomgyu confusedly looked at him as he filled a mug with water and put it in the microwave. He kept looking at him for some time before deciding to question him, but before he could the microwave’s ding interrupted him, followed by Yeonjun’s ‘auch’ as he grabbed the scolding hot mug. Yeonjun softly settled the steaming mug down on the floor in front of Beomgyu and added a small tea bag inside it.

“You still look cold.” Oh... “Not sure if you like chamomile tea-”

“I love it!”

Yeonjun looked at Beomgyu, eyes widening at the sudden confession. Then, he looked down as he kept preparing the tea, a soft smile playing in his full lips. Beomgyu didn’t enjoy tea at all, however he will make sure to drink every single drop of it. “Glad to know.” Yeonjun kept smiling as he got fully up and headed to the bathroom. “I’ll be right back, it’s just a quick shower. Let me know if Ricky makes it to the top 9.”

As Yeonjun closed the door behind him, Beomgyu realized how fondly he was grinning. Gosh get a grip Beomgyu, that was just a really pretty, tall, hot and sweet dude! It’s not like you’ve never seen one in the wild. Oh true you haven’t. Another loud thunder ended Beomgyu’s line of thought, making him grip the gray blanket closer to his chest. It was going to be a long night, he thought while slowly sipping on his tea and burning his tongue in the process.

Once Yeonjun returned from his, to Beomgyu's relief, super fast shower, Beomgyu had his back pressed against the wall, completely covered up. Only his big focused eyes were peeking through the thick blanket, as he watched the survival show. His laptop was on the opposite side of the room, plugged in underneath the window, so he couldn't see the show’s performances that well, and the loud evil editing was not enough to keep him distracted from the storm. So when Yeonjun entered the room, Beomgyu resisted the urge to hug his legs like a lost puppy and simply gave him a small relieved smile.

“Did you drink all the tea already?” He was looking at the empty mug on Beomgyu’s side. “Want me to make you some more?” How can someone look so good and be so good.

“No! But thank you so much, the tea was really good!” Okay calm down Beomgyu, it’s just chamomile. Yeonjun’s eyes lit up, looking proud of himself.

“They do call me the tea expert.” Oh did Beomgyu want to kiss that playful smirk off his face.

“I thought you were The rizz master though.”

“I go by many names.” That had Beomgyu giggling. Yeonjun's smile showed he enjoyed Beomgyu’s reaction. He slowly sat on the same wall as Beomgyu, slowly enough to let Beomgyu refuse company if he wanted. Beomgyu was more than happy to have company.

Yeonjun sat far enough to give Beomgyu some space, but still close enough for Beomgyu to be able to smell his jasmine body wash. His hair was still dripping wet and he was wearing only shorts and a tank top (his arms... no! soldier, you must maintain focus!), during a freaking storm. Beomgyu wanted to show he could be a gentleman too, so he decided to share his safety blanket. “Yeah, I can tell healingie.” He got closer to him and gently laid the blanket on top of Yeonjun’s legs, covering up his thighs. Yeonjun’s face showed surprise over Beomgyu’s action and also some shyness, expressed by his soft reddish cheeks, even though that could be caused by his recent shower. It was cute. Beomgyu knew he was too trusting and naive sometimes, but this guy immediately passed his vibe check and considering he still hadn't been brutally murdered, he would say his judgment was correct! “Want me to put the episode from the beginning?” Yeonjun nodded with wide foxy eyes, still a little taken back by the whole blanket thing probably.

And so they stayed like that for the entire episode. Yeonjun was fun to hang out with, letting him enjoy the show but also making funny comments here and there. Beomgyu found himself relaxing and actually forgetting about the storm happening outside. He only remembered it when the episode ended and it was late enough to look inappropriate to stay in Yeonjun’s home for much longer. At that moment he had two options, either cry his eyes out and beg Yeonjun to let him stay longer or go back to his scary, terrifying, right down chilling, apartment. Well, good thing he had no dignity.

“Hey, rizz master hyung.” Yeonjun turned to Beomgyu, humming in acknowledgment. The sudden eye contact made Beomgyu shy and forced him to look away. Embarrassing. “I know it’s late and you said you have an early class...” He started fiddling with the blanket “but could I stay a little longer? I’m still not sleepy and I don’t want to go back to my lightless apartment, you know?”

Yeonjun didn’t seem shocked over his request somehow. “Sure, we can watch some more stuff together while we wait for the storm to calm down.” He was so damn cute, Beomgyu wanted to bite him. Beomgyu couldn't hide his happiness as he reached for the laptop to pick something on Netflix that they can watch together. “I gotta ask though, why are we sitting so far away from the laptop?” Yeah about that. He couldn’t say he was a 180cm, twenty year old, man afraid of some lightning hitting that big window right?

Beomgyu turned back to Yeonjun “I’m farsighted.”

Yeonjun, for some goddamn reason that Beomgyu doesn't understand, thought that was hilarious, because he started to laugh really loudly, a really dorky silly laugh, that just fit him perfectly.

“Wow, because my lack of sight is so funny to you!”

Yeonjun laughed a little harder, until he calmed down, pretending to clean his tears. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I do understand the concept of seeing things better a little further away, but watching shows all the way from the other side the room seems a bit extreme, don’t you think?”

“What I think doesn’t matter! I just obey my eyes needs!” Yeonjun rolled his own perfectsighted eyes, with a rather fond smile on his lips. “Now,” Beomgyu huffed in a pretend annoyance, turning back to the matter at hand, “what should we watch?”

After learning about Yeonjun’s awful taste in Netflix movies, they finally set on watching a random show that looked promising. However, Beomgyu was quickly feeling more and more sleepy and with that in mind he came up with the perfect plan. He could pretend to fall asleep in Yeonjun’s apartment! Yeonjun couldn’t possibly kick out a pretty sleeping Beomgyu (people say he looks irresistible when he’s sleeping) and Beomgyu wouldn't have to return home feeling scared, sad and lonely. Foolproof.

Beomgyu started operation sleeping beauty by leaning more and more into the wall, softly closing his eyes. Accidentally, he started actually falling asleep, mind drifting away to a stormless dreamland. What he wasn’t expecting though was big hands gently shaking him awake. “Hey Beomgyu...” Yeonjun used such a sweet gentle voice, Beomgyu’s almost didn’t want to punch him for waking him up, almost. “If you want you can sleep here, but sleeping against a wall is not good for your back.” Nevermind, he wanted to kiss this guy.

“Oh thank you.” Beomgyu replied, voice hoarse from being woken up seconds ago. That was so nice. Yeonjun was so nice.

“Do you wanna take the bed?” Way too nice.

“What? No! It’s your home, I won’t take the bed!” He thinks he read something like this happening in fanfiction once. The whole two dudes, one bed trope. Yeonjun didn’t seem to want to argue further, getting up and heading towards his bedroom, returning with two pillows and another blanket.

“Let’s just have a sleepover here then.” What?

“What?” Beomgyu’s head was empty.

Yeonjun didn’t answer him, focusing on putting the pillows in the middle of the floor and laying the blanket next to them. If you can’t win them, join them. Beomgyu got up heading towards Yeonjun’s self made bed adding his own blanket next to one of the pillows. That seemed to please Yeonjun as he laid down, his back turned to Beomgyu, head on the pillow closer to the terrifying thunder-full window, thank god. Beomgyu laid down too. This should be weird right? He shouldn’t be having a sleepover with this dude he met two/three hours ago. So why is he so comfortable? He left a scheduled message in his friend’s group chat telling them to search for his dead body in his neighbor's house, just in case.

“You have a bed, you know? You were the one that chose to sleep on the floor with a complete stranger.”

Yeonjun hummed in confirmation, sounding a little on the edge of sleep already. “Soju takes up all the space in my bed anyway.” What? He stores soju in his bed? Beomgyu had lots of questions. “She likes sleeping in the warm bed during storms.” She?

“Do you have a pet?” It would explain the two bowls on the floor.

Yeonjun hummed once again “A cat.” Beomgyu still had many more questions, but Yeonjun was clearly exhausted and Beomgyu suddenly felt guilty for being here, taking up his time and personal space. “You can meet her tomorrow, if you want.”

Beomgyu found himself smiling at Yeonjun’s answer. He positioned himself more comfortably before dozing off again, the background noises of the Netflix show, the thunder and Yeonjun’s soft breaths lullabying him to sleep. He knew for a fact that if he was alone he wouldn’t be able to fall asleep, terrified of the loud noises and the bright lightning, but right now, next to Yeonjun, he felt safe somehow.

“Are you seriously leaving me alone in your flat?” Beomgyu gasped. It was the next morning, Beomgyu woke up with the still very loud rain and noticed Yeonjun getting ready to exit his apartment door. Was he really leaving his home with a stranger while he goes to college. Who even goes out during a storm..? Was he insane?

“Oh I thought you were still sleeping.” Yeonjun said, half his body already out the door. He looked gorgeous. “Why wouldn’t I let you stay here though? It would be rude of me to wake you up so early and besides your apartment is probably still out of power, there’s no point in you leaving.”

“So, you’re fine with just leaving your home unattended?”

“What are you going to do? Steal the couch? Oh yeah... I don’t have one!” Yeonjun smiled, clearly proud of his own lame joke. But Beomgyu had to admit that his argument made some sense. Besides, if Beomgyu was going to rob him, he could’ve done it during the night while Yeonjun was asleep.

“I could steal your fridge...” Beomgyu pointed out, already getting comfortable on the floor again.

“Are you going to?”

“...no.”

“Then, see you later!” And Yeonjun waved goodbye before closing the door. That was a confusing interaction and Beomgyu needed more sleep in order to process it. And so, he slept. The fact that he now had two blankets on top of him going unnoticed.

That morning he met Soju. She was a long-haired gray kitten, eyes shinny and curious very similar to her owner’s. He never met a cat before so he wasn’t sure what he should do with her. Did she need to be taken on a walk? After some research he found out they poop in sand, what an incredible creature. He checked if her sand was clean, filled up her bowls with water and food and watched some ‘how to know if your cat loves you’ youtube videos. While he was watching them, Soju slowly climbed into his lap, he was loved for sure! After some petting time, he went to his house and grabbed his own pet, Beomgyu wanted Soju and Bbokku to be besties. He had a mini photoshoot of both of them hanging out and he couldn’t wait to show Yeonjun.

Yeonjun stared at the home appliance for a few more seconds.

“It’s called a toaster oven Yeonjun...” Beomgyu being bored out of his mind all day, decided to grab his toaster oven and bring it to Yeonjun’s home, so he could make some nonmicrowaved breakfast there.

“I know what it’s called, but why is it here?” Beomgyu barely spent any time with Yeonjun, but he started to realize that he was a little dumb (affectionately).

“I wanted some toasts for breakfast, so I brought my toaster here!” Beomgyu excitedly explained while Yeonjun was too busy having a staring contest with Beomgyu’s toaster and mumbling ‘An oven just for toasts?’.

“Want me to make you some toast hyung?” That made Yeonjun turn to him with pretty shiny eyes before nodding cutely. Beomgyu wasn’t sure if it was truly a cute nod or if he just thinks everything Yeonjun does is cute.

The storm was said to last a few more days. Beomgyu was not happy about it. He felt guilty over not leaving Yeonjun’s home and not giving him privacy. Although, when Beomgyu asked Yeonjun if he could stay another night Yeonjun didn’t even bat an eye, as he happily ate his toast, nodding in confirmation. He didn’t seem bothered so far, but it would become tiring soon, having Beomgyu around for too long. Beomgyu didn’t want Yeonjun to get tired of him.

“Oh!” Realization hit him! Yeonjun chokes on his toast from the sudden loud noise. “I gotta show you something!” Beomgyu grabbed his phone lying on the ground next to their makeshift bed and headed back to the small table, sitting in the chair available. He opened his phone’s gallery and showed full-cheeked Yeonjun, who stopped chewing his toast, the most recent pictures he took. “Look at these two cuties!”

“Is that a rock?” Yeonjun said, after a few seconds of observing the pictures. Then, he cleaned the breadcrumbs off his lips with the back of his hand. Beomgyu shouldn’t be mesmerized, he really shouldn't.

“Yeah, it’s my pet rock. I named him Bbokku, it was a Christmas gift from my friend Huening. Bbokku is an ENFP by the way. Since my perfect match is an ENFP and Bbokku and I match so well, it seemed fitting.”

“I’m an ENFP too.” Well, fuck... Of course he is. Yeonjun went back to eating normally, like he didn’t just drop a butterfly bomb in Beomgyu’s stomach. Silence started settling in, making Yeonjun look back at him with pretty questioning foxy eyes, but Beomgyu had to look away, avoiding eye contact. The table looked really interesting at that moment. “So...” Thank god, a topic change. “you think Bbokku liked Soju?” At that Beomgyu perked back up, narrating to Yeonjun all about Bbokku and Soju’s first meeting.

They slept together on the floor again, after watching some more Netflix which turned into a ‘getting to know each other better’ session, where they learned where they were born, how many siblings they had, etc etc. Basic stuff Beomgyu should’ve known before sleeping in the same space as him. Yeonjun talked about being an only child and always wanting a younger brother, until in highschool he made a friend, Taehyun, who was like a younger brother to him. The fondness in his voice as he talked about Taehyun, showed that Yeonjun was a good friend, a good hyung. He talked about his hobbies, how he had dance lessons on Thursdays in a studio near his college. He learned a lot about Yeonjun that made him even more fascinating and beautiful. Beomgyu fell asleep to the sound of rain and soft breaths one more time.

It became a current occurrence, Beomgyu getting bored and grabbing things from his apartment to add them to Yeonjun’s. He brought his TV and PS5 which led to a very happy Yeonjun playing games with Beomgyu after his classes. He sucked at video games and Beomgyu made sure to let him know. Beomgyu also brought some of his favorite snacks and some change of clothes, since there was no point in going back and forth to his own apartment just to pick them up. The fact that what he was doing was super weird going completely over his head. In his defense, Yeonjun didn’t seem to have a problem with it. Beomgyu only realized how uncanny this whole situation was when his two best friends decided to pay him a visit.

There was heavy knocking on the door, demonstrating a really angry person on the other side of the apartment door. Beomgyu was thinking about who could possibly hate such a sweet angel like Yeonjun to knock so hard on his door. Who would’ve had the guts to dislike that overgrown kitten. Beomgyu ponders leaving the door unanswered since it didn’t feel right to open it when Yeonjun wasn’t home. That is, until he hears a sweet ‘Beomgyu hyung?’ from the other side. That's Kai! So the pissed off knocking must be-

“Beomgyu, I swear to God if you are not in danger I will put you in real danger myself.” Soobin.

He paused the game and headed towards the door, opening it to reveal an, as expected, furious (and wet from the storm) Soobinnie.

“So you are here!” He said angrily. Damn could he perhaps show any other emotion besides anger?

“Of course I’m here,” Beomgyu rolled his eyes “where else would I be, idiot?”

“Perhaps, in your own apartment, dumbass?” Oh. That was a good point. An excellent point. But how did they guess he was here? Then it hit him. He forgot to unschedule the ‘sooboobie and hueningie, please come rescue me, my hot neighbor is holding me hostage (╥﹏╥)’ message...

“Wait, it took you guys two days to check up on me? I could’ve been dead by now!” He heard a quiet ‘Lowkey wish you were’ from Soobin, but he decided to ignore it. For now.

“Hyung, we didn’t take you seriously, of course.” Of course. “But today, we decided to check up on you because this storm has been awful and you probably could use some company.” Yeah, obviously. “We knocked on your door and tried to call you, but you wouldn't show any signs of life, so we decided to knock on a few neighbors’ doors, just in case.” Huening had such a calming sweet voice that it covered up the nastiness in Soobin’s.

“I had a chihuahua almost bite off my ankle because of you, dipshit.” Nevermind. Nothing could cover up Soobin’s toxicity.

“Hey, what matters is that I’m safe and that you still have your ankle, right?” He gives them both the sweetest smile he can muster, opening his eyes wide to make him look as puppy as possible. Kai said a little ‘awn’, but Soobin seemed to not care at all about his puppy stare, since he just blankly stared back at Beomgyu.

“Anyway, what are you doing here at your neighbor's home?” Oh, true he has some explaining to do.

“Well, you see, I have awful friends that didn’t come save me when the storm threatened to end my life, therefore the only option remaining was to seek rescue in this lovely abode.”

“We figured that out, hyung. But it’s been two days, what are you still doing here?” Kai didn’t have an ounce of judgment in his voice, just confusion.

No reason to bother your neighbor for so long” Sure, but also-

“But, for now, I need you guys' help moving my couch into his apartment.” And now both of them were looking at him like he grew a second head.

They stared at him for five fat seconds before Soobin sighed loudly while heading for Beomgyu’s apartment door. “Let’s make it fast. I still want to make it back home in time to watch some Jujutsu Kaisen.” Nerd.
