Chapter Text
Gaul and his new partner were on the trail of a certain Sorcerer and his goblin thief companion. Who might have lost the city guards coming through this trail, but not for these two adventurers. For almost two whole days of hunting the thieving pair. Gaul could almost sense they were close to their target... but something wasn't right.
Everything in this forest seemed to be quiet.
"You see anything?" The blue eyed drow said as he paused in his steps and took a harder look around them. "I don't know about you... but I think we are not alone here."
“ While I’m not seeing anything , I do feel like where being watched. From where? I have no clue.” Whispered Jonah to her tall companion.
Slowly gravitating towards Gaul, Jonah pulled her magic to just under the surface of her skin as she covered his backside.
“Hey gual? Does. . . I could’ve sworn we passed this area of the forest before.” She whispered in confusion as she slowly took in the scenery around them.
The feeling of something watching them made the hairs on her neck stand up and her magic desperately prickle under her skin . The grip of her knuckles tightened against her staff.
Gaul didn't comment right away as Jonah said she too was feeling that things were not right. "We did." He said, realizing now, that he was looking at their own foot prints. "Look. This is my boot.... and this is yours."
He looked back over his shoulders like a cautious wild cat. "What does your magic say?"
Jonah's magic wouldn't tell her much of anything... but something was off. And no one could put a finger on it. "You see that?" The drow pointed to something in the hillock. By the mountains, it stood out like a Black stone finger in the green forests. "I don't recall seeing that before."
It was a tower.
“ how did we miss that, the first time around?!” She said as she stared at the tower in the distance. The feeling of being watched only Intensified as she stared at the tower beyond them.
“You think the thieves are in Their? I know I wouldn’t” Jonah said as she looked at gual.
"Well.. if we've been traveling in a circle like this. The thieves might be the least of our problems." And he began to wonder if they were having the same problems they had. The Sorcerer and his Goblin companion just a couple of days ago stole some divine stones. And what they planned to do with it besides selling it on the black market was anyones guess. "Its not impossible they played a hand in this.. and if the forest is running us in a circle. I don't see why not check it out.'
“Alright, let’s go, I kinda would like to get out of this forest even if it’s for a bit.” She said as she started to walk past Gaul who quickly caught up and kept pace with her.
“Those thieves better say their prayers! We’re going to catch them before they even THINK about committing another crime.” Jonah’s fist made a resounding smack as she punched her own hand for emphasis.
"Were not out of these woods yet." Gaul cautioned his partner adventurer as they ventured their way towards the tower that seemed to beckon them... for they would soon, find the force that was perhaps hunting them since they noticed.
There was a heavy branch being broke behind them.
Gaul gripped his sword at his belt and whirled himself around to see what made that noise.
