Chapter 1: Can we get a room?

Chapter Text

The Rain was coming down hard along the trails where Gaul, Jonah, and their prisoner Webe the Goblin, who was bound by ropes and pulled along by Gaul and watched by Jonah. After their harrowing escape through the dream lands of some twisted dead woman Webe's partner tried to resurrect but only ended up awakening her mind and summoning her powers to put the entire area around the Tower from once she slept into a strange slumber.

The goblin wasn't so interested in fighting or trying to make an escape after what he'd been through. His mind was still not all there. As the Goblin half wondered if every tree... rock... and ever square patch of dirt was real or not.

"Its strange that we haven't seen anyone on these roads coming here." Gaul said as he noticed that for a road leading to the Town of Cloverwood. He would have expected to have seen someone... despite the rain.

“We’s still in lady Tulta’s magic. Hahhaa!” Webe’s slightly maniacal laugh echoed as he shuffled forward.

“Don’t know if you noticed but we’re not in the forest anymore and would YOU QUIT DRAGGING YOUR FEET!!” The squishing noise of feet being dragged through the muddy ground made Jonah’s annoyance grow.

Was it too much to ask for a soft bed and warm food! They were soaked to the bone and she doubted there was wood dry enough to start a fire, let alone keep them warm.

“Ugh, can’t wait to find the nearest inn. Though now that you mention it, it is weird that there’s not even a guard at the gate. I thought it was a felony to leave your post regardless of weather?” Her nose scrunched up as she tried to remember the laws. Depending on the region, most laws were almost the same with some variation.

The walls ahead of them were nearly invisible with the heavy downpour.

It seemed that Webe's mental state hadn't entirely survived his harrowing experiences. And honestly... Gaul couldn't blame the goblin after they found him falling through the floor and having what was done to him in the Black Tower. Last they left him in the dream realm, he was broken and barely pulled back together.

Now he was walking with him. With Gaul having half a mind just killing him on the road and leaving him with some dirt thrown over him. But he wanted to drag something back to show for it. With all the Material components gone that they were looking for and the Sorcerer dead from his foolish deeds on trying to resurrect some long haired woman trapped in her tower.

"Maybe they don't see too many problems here... then again. Sloppy workmanship is everywhere. Come Webe we are almost out of the rain." He said, dragging the laughing goblin along as they finally came up to a wooden wall that suddenly appeared out of the heavy rain.

Gaul pounded on the gate and whatever Guard was on the other side of this wall, asked who was there, and Gaul gave them the answer that they were adventurers looking to drop off their captive with the City watch.

Soon enough they took their rain soaked bodies through the dreary streets to the Deputies office and locked Webe behind bars to have a sit.

"Haven't gotten much traveler's up here lately." The Chief Deputy said, as he watched one of his Jr's locking Webe behind bars as Gaul and Jonah shook off the rain.

"We don't intend to stay for long. Just until the weather legs up. Any decent places to get a room?"

The Chief Deputy nodded his head, and recommended a couple of the Taverns around here.

Honestly, Gaul would take anything with a fire and a roof over their heads.

“Glad to get rid of him. Though I'm not too sure he’ll even notice us gone.” casting a glance towards the goblin behind bars. She noticed that even the other inmates steered clear of the slightly insane webe.

Exiting the deputies office, they stood beneath the porch as the pounding rain continued. “The chief said there was an inn close by, did he give you directions?” It was hard for Jonah to keep from stuttering as she rubbed her arms.

“hmm, he said we’d have to go this way” gaul made a motion on the small map the chief deputy had given. “ We can hopefully get a room tonight.”

“Hopefully, if not I’d rather a space on the floor than this pouring rain.” The sky rumbled as if annoyed at her words.

"Me too." Gaul said as he was half considering just killing the mad goblin along the road off and on. But he was neither in that kind of mood and the Goblin, while a thief, didn't do anything horrendous enough to warrent Gaul to bring his sword down against the back of Webe's neck.

For now, if Webe surived the night. It was the Deputies problem.

Outside the rain was still coming down hard. Thunder rumbled and nearest in still seemed so far away considering this weather that was between them and the closests inn.

"That way. Just down the road." Gaul pointed as he put up his hood again. The map that was given to them was of a basic make. "I'd settled for a roof over my head at this point. Come on." The drow said as he waved his partner along as they walked the board walks and entered the establishment.

Many people here were thinking of the same thing. Eyes turned on the pair for a moment before returning to their own conversations and drinks. Gaul asked for a room, and managed to get one with two beds in it.

For now, he just wanted to get a meal as they found a table by the wall. "Pending on how bad this weather goes, we might be here for a couple of nights. I don't know about you, but I could use with a decent rest."
