Work Text:

The ash finally started to clear that day.

Months upon months of hiding. Of pain. Of fear.

All of it, finally over.

Well, not quite yet,’ Luz thought, looking down upon the green stain on the ground, a look of pure disgust growing across her features. ‘Get him out of our lives first, then celebrate.’

Luz realized that the maniac at her feet had been rambling while she was in her thoughts. Apparently, she had zoned out for a lot longer than she had expected, as a soft rain had settled in, boiling away the facade Philip had tried to put on.

Don’t just stand there!” he said, as Luz did exactly that. Philip let out a yell as Raine summoned a large leaf to protect them, Eda, and King, as the rain started to fall harder and harder.

Luz knew she could stop it. It would be quite easy to spare everyone from the rain. But as she looked back and saw the three people she cared about safe from the downpour, she realized she didn’t really want to.

You’ll be just as bad, just as conniving, just as evil, and just as unforgivable as those witches!” he said, reaching Luz and grabbing onto her leg with one arm. “We’re human. We’re better than this!

That’s when Luz had enough. She shook her leg free from Belos’ grasp, reared it back, and put as much force as she could muster into a single kick, sending Belos, now reduced to just a skull, flying. But she wasn’t going to let him off the hook that quickly. Oh no. He had more than a few sins to pay for, and she didn’t trust whatever afterlife there was to collect his debts.

Quickly dashing over to where Belos was airborne, she caught him just before he hit the ground and raised his skull so they were looking eye-to-eye.

“You know, for once I think I know exactly what to say, Belos,” she said, practically spitting the last word out. “To give credit where it’s due, you’re right on one thing,” she said with a shrug. “I will be just as evil as those witches. Luckily for me, I can’t seem to recall any witches attempting mass genocide. I can clearly remember another human trying that, though. You want to know how they ended up? Here, I’ll let Eda give you a hint,” she said, tossing his skull back towards Eda, King, and Raine.

Eda caught his skull easily, locked eyes with him, and said one, simple word. “Dead.” That’s when she dropped Belos’ skull onto the ground, allowing all four of them to start beating on the defenseless has-been ruler on the floor.

They whaled on Belos for a while, but everyone could swear it had only been a few seconds. Never did any one of them think it would be so cathartic to cave someone’s skull in. They made sure Belos was gone, only stopping when his skull was reduced to fragments.

“That was extremely satisfying!” Raine amended, getting a chorus of agreement from the rest of the group.

And only then was it really over.

Luz had truly saved the isles, boiling away the dark green stain that had infected everyone’s lives. And now the ash could really clear.

But the weather wouldn’t clear for another few minutes.

Luz didn’t know why she held onto the rain. Maybe it was so she wouldn’t have to lose the Titan’s power, or maybe it was so this moment would last just a little longer. Whatever the reason, Luz wouldn’t let the sun show its face.

She would just let the rain fall.
