Nick makes it twelve years, five months, two weeks, and three days.
Their child is motionless in the backseat. It’s devastating because it wasn’t nearly as hard as Nick imagined it would be all these years. His child owned his heart, by all means just the sight of what he did, those awful hand shaped bruises around that little neck, should provoke emotion, but…
He wasn’t a fan of what that said about himself. It was easier to focus on his bitch wife in the front seat. He’d cracked her skull with a hammer before strangling the kid. He thought Amy had been sleeping, but now he believes she was fully awake and keeping her breathing slow as her way of saying, “Do it. I dare you.”
On the edge of the lake about to take his foot off the Volvo’s break Nick’s mind can’t help but wander to how the press would react. He wouldn’t see it, but he understood the word tragedy was going to be everywhere for a solid week at least. Would the Amazing Amy book address this? Would the inevitable airport true crime book understand that his final act proved how much he loved her?
