Summary
L has been in Light’s life for several years now and, over time, one thing has become steadily more and more obvious.
No one actually knows Light.
It’s not always an insidious thing, part of a scheme, it’s just something about the way Light talks really. He has a way of directing conversation away with subtle, gentle, tactics and he’s more interested in being likeable than being honest.
But L wants to know everything.

“Really, why did you ask me to sit with you? Such nice stationary in my till… Clearly, you can’t stand me.”
Light opens his mouth to respond and pauses. The truth is he's not quite sure what possessed him to write that nice little invite and drop it in L’s mailbox.

“Hard to do when you were constantly calling my essays stupid

Summary
L didn't love Light like a muse; he loved him like a case study. Instead of looking for where to perfect him, L sought to break him further apart; instead of chiselling at his perfections, he chiselled at his sanity. L carved Light out with his bare hands—fingers etching out his soul as his very essence dripped down his fingertips, splattered on his face, stuck in his hair.
or, after L's death, Light finds a tape they filmed together while chained to each other.
