Summary:

An ex-boyfriend of Aiura's shows up at PK Academy to try to get her back. Saiki learns things he wish he didn't about her past.

Work Text:

Saiki doesn’t recognize the guy hovering over Aiura at her shoe locker, and he doesn’t like the smug grin on his face. Aiura looks uncharacteristically uncomfortable, her mouth pressed into a frown and her eyebrows furrowed. Ugh, his breath, she thinks.

If there was a way to get the guy away from her without drawing attention to himself, Saiki would like to do so. With a subtle act of pyrokinesis, he triggers the sprinkler system over their heads. The guy startles and leans back, giving Aiura the chance to slip away. Unfortunately, this little act of mischief on Saiki’s part has gotten everyone in the vicinity wet, but it is worth it to get that creep away from Aiura.

The students in the hallway look confused as Matsuzaki comes around the corner to disable the fire prevention system. Aiura is already out the front door and down the front steps of the school before the coach can even start interrogating the students about what just happened. Saiki follows her lead, hoping to figure out who that guy was, but he’s following too.

Instead of causing a confrontation, Saiki hangs back and observes as the guy approaches again. “Crazy sprinklers, huh?” he remarks unintelligently.

“Leave me alone!” Aiura replies. “How many times do I have to tell you no? I don’t want to date your sorry ass again.”

Oh, so this is an ex-boyfriend. That’s why Saiki didn’t recognize him. He is a student from Aiura’s old school, from her life before PK Academy.

The guy tosses his head back and groans. I forgot how annoying she is, he thinks to himself. But man she gave it to me good.

Saiki’s skin crawls. The guy has no interest in actually dating Aiura. He’s more concerned about getting his rocks off. Saiki desperately wishes in that moment that he weren’t a telepath, as the creep plays a highlight reel in his mind of all the things that he and Aiura had gotten up to back when they were dating.

“Come on, babe,” he says, his voice oily and unpleasant. “Remember all the fun times we had?” He then reaches for her, and Saiki knows exactly where that hand is headed.

Before he can even register what he’s doing, Saiki has the guy unconscious on the ground and has taken Aiura by the hand and teleported away. He is acting on instinct and impulse, but he’s sure no one saw him, considering everyone who had exited the school building was still distracted by their soggy clothes from the sprinkler system. In any case, he had moved so quickly, no one would have been able to tell what just happened anyway.

They’re standing on the roof of the school now, looking down on the growing crowd below as they begin to notice the creep passed out in the school’s front lawn. “Whoops,” Saiki says, as an exasperated Matsuzaki is called out to deal with the second of Saiki’s deviant behaviors.

“What’d you do?” Aiura asks, leaning over the rail. When she sees that her ex-boyfriend is coming to, she grimaces.

“He’s a pervert,” Saiki says. “He deserved it.”

Aiura turns to Saiki and smiles for a half second before she frowns. “So, you probably heard all the stuff he was thinking about me, right? Sorry about that. I didn’t know you were my soulmate back then, you know?”

As if Saiki was upset that Aiura hadn’t saved herself for him. He almost wants to laugh at the insinuation. But knowing all the things that guy had experienced with Aiura did perturb Saiki. He wouldn’t admit it, though, lest she accuse him of jealousy. So instead Saiki shrugs a shoulder. “It doesn’t matter.”

Heaving a sigh of relief, Aiura leans against him slightly. “Well, thanks for that, anyway.”

Saiki wants to ask her if any other exes are going to come out of the woodwork to try and win her back; he wants to ask if she would consider getting back with any of them; he wants to know if she really is planning to save any future physical intimacy for him. But for now he’s not going to risk even implying that he really cares, no matter how much he does.
