Work Text:
Sonic stretched as he rose from his silly dilly slumber, and remembered that he was planning to come out to his family today. He had met everyone after starting voice training and stealing T, so there wouldn't be an adjustment period. And both of his parents are bi so there's nothing they could really say or do, right?
Still, there's always the possibility that they don't accept him. Bisexuals can still be transphobic, it sucks, but it's true. He let out a long and deep breath he didn't know he was holding and opened the attic door. The ladder creaks as he steps down the rungs and onto the hardwood floor. No getting out of this, Sonic. Be a big boy, for once.
The smell of pancakes assaults the hedgehog's nose as he steps into the kitchen, sleepy "good mornings" echoing through the room. He hops onto a chair, yawning and thinking about just how he's going to do this. A joke, maybe? Jokes worked pretty well for every other serious topic. Oh well. Hopefully this would be an appropriate moment..
"Hey, so, funny story everybody! Fun fact moment. So, um."
Now everybody's attention was on him. Whoops.
"So… fun fact… about.. me! Uh.."
Tails looks at Sonic with those big adorable blue eyes of his and he nearly breaks. Everybody seems to have caught on to the fact that this might be more important than Little Boy Blue is letting on, and they seem more curious. He deeply inhales and exhales, trying to calm my nerves.
"So.. I wasn't born a dude? Like, I'm trans. Transgender. Transmasculine. Transmasc, if you will!"
Knuckles is the last to understand, but once he does, he joins the huge group hug with a squirming Sonic at the center. All the hedgehog can hear is stuff like "why didn't you tell us sooner?" and "that's so cool!" and it almost brings him to tears. This was everything he had hoped for and more.
"I love you guys."
————————————
Well, this was a dilemma.
Knuckles had been thinking quite hard about Sonic's reveal to the family nearly a month ago, and not much had changed. The family saw him as male beforehand, so it was no inconvenience to see him as male afterwards. They all still loved him even though he was loud and blue and annoying, same as always.
But the problem lies within the fact that Knuckles had recently put some thought into their own gender and has come to what seems to be the end of it. Something just isn't clicking, though. So, they stand before their mother as she prepares to go to bed. Father is brushing his teeth, so the two get a moment alone.
"How do you know that you are female?"
The question catches Pretzel Lady off guard, her eyes darting in the echidna's direction before answering.
"Well, it's hard to explain, baby. I guess.. I get called and see myself as female. People refer to me as she, her, girl, woman, lady, wife, sister, aunt. Mother."
At that last one, she plants a gentle and sweet kiss on Knuckles' nose. They smile and she pats a spot on the bed next to her, silently asking her baby to come up and sit with her.
"And it makes me happy."
"I… I think those things make me happy too. Is that okay?"
She nods and pulls her daughter closer. Her mother smells wonderful, as always. Pretzel Lady strokes through her eldest's locs, making sure to be gentle.
"Of course, baby. Do you want to go shopping with me tomorrow?"
Tears prick the corners of the girl's eyes, clinging to her mother as Tom emerges from the bathroom very confused.
"I would like that."
————————————
Tails was very unoriginal.
His mama had sat everyone down a week ago, Knuckles attached to her at the hip, and told everyone what the echidna had told her. Which, admittedly, wasn't much. But, basically, she was a girl now and everyone would treat her as such. And make sure that everyone else knows that too, no matter what she looks or sounds or acts like.
So, the fox felt horrible for thinking about stuff like that too. Whether or not she was a boy or girl, that is. He felt like they were just copying off of her siblings, but he had always felt like a boy, so case closed! Kind of. Recently, something about the idea of wearing skirts and such and being called a girl is so enticing. But then again, they liked getting called a "smart young man" and a "good boy" and stuff like that. What was wrong with her?!
Dang it, his brother noticed. The hedgehog sat them down and asked her what was up, and Tails did his best to lie through their teeth until Sonic did that stupid thing where he puts his hand on your shoulder and looks in your eyes and it looks like no matter what you say, he'll give you a hug and tell you it'll all be alright. And that's exactly what happened.
"I just.. I don't know what's wrong with me!"
"Tails, buddy. You're not going crazy or anything, take it easy. Do you think you wanna look at some stuff with me? You don't need a label to be comfortable, but it looks like it might help right now. I felt a lot like this when I started realizing I was trans."
Sonic and Tails scrolled through a bunch of gender labels, some of them confusing and others very simple. One of them made a lot of sense, though.
"So it's like.. all of them?"
"Yeah. I liked that one for a while, used it as a placeholder until I found out that being a dude fit way more. They and them, right?"
The fox nodded their head, tails curling around their brother.
"Yeah. Do you think I should tell Mommy and Daddy and Knuckles right now?"
"For sure!"
Sonic hops up and offers a hand to his sibling.
"Thank you for helping me."

Maddie sat with all of her beautiful babies in her arms, her husband wrapped around her. She sighed and leaned back, getting a kiss from the man who had, thankfully, agreed to take care of these adorable aliens. Suddenly, Tom gasps.
"Baby, I just realized something."
Maddie giggles and strokes her youngest's namesakes. They had just come out tonight, following in their siblings' footsteps.
"And what is that?"
"We collected them all!"
She counts the three little aliens in her arms.
"Colors? Animals? I can assure you, there are more than three anim-"
"No, not that."
Tom points to Sonic.
"Trans guy."
To Knuckles.
"Trans girl."
And, finally, to Tails.
"Gender..queer? Yeah, genderqueer."
Suddenly, Maddie understands. She struggles to restrain a loud laugh that would wake her kids up as she realizes what her husband means.
"Tommy, they aren't Pokémon!"
"Not with that attitude.."
