But everything has a reaction and a cost.

Work Text:

The Narrator cried gently, but he had a small smiled. Stanley was escaping the parable.. he couldn't go, he would die in the code once Stanley ventured out and escaped. Stanley had been begging Narrator to find a way to come with, but deep down the two knew that'd never happen. Stanley could slip through the code but the parable itself would recognize Narrator leaving it. Stanley was standing in front of the open door, leading to pure darkness, no light at all.

Stanley clutched his bucket harder, looking back at the Narrators human model, who was crying gently, Stanley noticed he was crying too. He outstretched his arms, placing the bucket on the ground as he held the Narrator, crying into his sholder.

"I know Stanley... I know.. shhh.. just, Stanley? Could you promise me one thing?" The Narrator spoke calmly, Stanley looking into the others eyes and nodding quickly. "Good.. just... remember me? Dont.. don't forget about me?" Stanley nodded even faster, hugging Narrator tighter, letting sobs escape him in whimpering cries.

The Narrator sighed, sniffling. "Go Stanley.. don't overthink this. I thought about this enough. I want this for you. I'd rather one of us escape. This place won't last without you anyway.. in a way I'll be free too.." Stanley shook his head, crying as the Narrator starting to gently pull him away. "Stanley.. comon.. please.." The Narrator was sobbing too, their tears both rolling down their faces.

Stanley wouldn't let go, so the Narrator kicked the bucket into the door before pushing Stanley through it. The Narrator feel to the ground, sobbing as he held his shirt, crying and curling into a ball. He felt pain through his heart as he cried and cried. The Narrator was so happy for Stanley, so happy that the man he'd fallen for was free, but at the cost of his own, the Narrator thought that was a worthy trade in the end.
