Sara was walking around to give her daily morning greetings to the other officers when something caught her eye. She walked a few steps back to find Heizou sitting on his desk but that wasn't the problem, it was the fact his right hand was wrapped up and sandwiched between two planks.
"What happened?" Sara gasped as anxiety rushed through her body, worried that it was caused by a violent incident. She had grabbed the splint to check if it was put on correctly but Heizou pulled his hand away so he could hide behind it.
"It's quite embarrassing." Heizou mumbled.
Sara walked around to face Heizou but he kept moving the splint to block her from his view. So she grabbed onto his elbow and pulled it down so he couldn't hide from her anymore.
"What happened?" Her voice was so soft and sweet, it was not like her.
Seeing he had no other way to avoid telling, Heizou sighed before revealing that he, "I was out eating with the Arataki Gang so they had taken their hats off so it wouldn't bother them. We ate and chatted then it was time to go so we were on our way out when one forgot their hat so I went back for it." Heizou stopped to hide behind the splint. "Well a chair was out just enough for me to trip on the leg and with the way it was turned, I was forced to land on my right side, and fracture my hand."
Sara and the eavesdropping officers winced because they all knew the pain of falling on one side but very few understood the pain of fracturing a bone. Sara again grabbed Heizou's elbow and lowered his arm to see his pouty lips.
"How about I help you out today?" Sara offered but Heizou shook his head.
"Thank you but no need. I have been given the time off to focus on healing." Heizou smiled.
Sara looked at Heizou with that look that said "Be serious" because she knew Heizou and he would just not sit around and do nothing. He would go around to find something small or big but he wasn't just going to sit around. And Heizou knew she knew.
Heizou caved in under Sara's stare. "Okay, okay! Just calm down with the stare." He grumbled while blocking Sara's face with his hands.
If it wasn't for the other officers watching them, Sara would have kissed Heizou's left palm rather than pull his hand down to look at him. She wanted to press his hand to her cheek but there were people watching. Wait.. was Heizou constantly putting his hands in front of his face so Sara would have to grab his hand?!
Heizou snickered at the faint blush along Sara's cheeks.
Outside and walking around in the streets of Inazuma City was Sara to the right of Heizou to protect his hand from any accidental bumps from passersby. Well thankfully at this hour of the morning, there weren't many citizens walking around so Sara could ease up on covering Heizou's hand.
She wanted to make sure no more discomfort or pain came towards Heizou so she kept an eye and ear out for both directions. If someone was approaching them from ahead, she stared intensely so they would move out of their path, but if they came from behind then she simply moved them to the side. This technique seems to be great but who knows if it'll hold once the streets become packed during lunch hour.
"I forgot to ask but what were you doing with the Arataki Gang yesterday apart from eating?" Sara asked because she didn't hear about any disturbance report or any report regarding the gang.
"Oh! Itto had invited me to watch a beetle tournament he was holding with his bro." Heizou couldn't contain his snickering at the end.
"Who's his bro?"
"Hehe, do you want to guess who it might be?"
Sara remained silent.
"No fun." Heizou grumbled his voice but stopped so he could gesture for Sara to get closer.
"Is his identity that important to keep quiet?" Sara questioned but lowered her ear closer to his face.
Heizou hummed a yes in response as he cupped one hand around her ear. "It's no other than the head of the Kamisato clan, Kamisato Ayato."
Sara pulled away with her mouth wide open. Heizou feverishly nodded his head because he was just as shocked about the reveal. Eventually Heizou had to push Sara's jaw up and laughed about how shocked she was but he understood the feeling because they address Ayato so formally that the fact Itto casually calls him Bro was surprising.
"Does he not know who he is speaking to?" Sara finally spoke after much processing. She could not imagine herself addressing the Raiden Shogun so casually but then again she's talking about Itto.
"I doubt it because Ayato gave me that look to remain quiet just like you do so often."
"That's because you would rather talk about your unannounced trips to Watatsumi Island than the cases at hand."
Heizou huffed and walked ahead.
Not soon after, people began to leave buildings to have their lunch, and the streets became packed rather quickly. Sara had hurried to get Heizou and pushed him closer to the wall to protect him from being pushed or squished.
"Let's get out of here." Sara whispered to Heizou.
"Yeah, okay." Heizou appeared a bit flustered but Sara didn't pay mind to it because she was more focused on keeping his hand protected.
Down to the outskirts of the city and behind a house, they sat beside each other on the brick fence. They were facing towards the house but the scenery was boring for Heizou so he turned around to watch the waves instead.
"It's just us now." Heizou pointed out and Sara nodded. They looked at each other then away very quickly.
Sara opened her mouth to speak but Heizou's stomach loudly growling made her laugh instead. Heizou whined in embarrassment and shushed his stomach but it only growled again.
"Stay here, I'll go get us something to eat." Sara told him and Heizou nodded.
"Don't keep me waiting." Heizou did a half turn so he could lay down along the top of the wall. He looked up at Sara and gave her a smile that told her to "Hurry up, I'm starving."
Up in the line, Sara pondered on which dish she should order for them. Perhaps his favorite, Katsu Sandwich, would be best because he can eat it with one hand. Eat on his own.. well if she asked for egg rolls then it would be hard to eat on his own so she could feed Heizou! Oh what was she thinking?!
"Um, excuse me, Madam Kujou." She snapped herself out of her thoughts to see she was next in line.
What was she going to get?!
Heizou laid on the rock fence in complete utter peace because all the noisy city talk was far away and there were barely any children making noise so he got to listen to the calm waves just fine. It was just perfect- well almost, there was still one missing part.
"Heizou." He opened his eyes to see Sara had stood in a way to block the sun from his face.
"Sara." He softly said with a smile that surely melted Sara's heart.
Sara cleared her throat as she stepped back so Heizou could sit up. She sat down with space between them so she could set the food and drinks down.
"Let's see what smells so good." Heizou sat up very cheerfully and looked down to see an order of omelette rice and two egg rolls but the rolls look different. "Where are they from?" He poked the rolls.
"I made them." Sara quickly picked her roll up to eat to avoid this conversation but stopped when Heizou chuckled.
"They look good. Thank you, Sara." Sara stuffed her mouth which made Heizou laugh. She wasn't good with compliments, especially not when they came from his mouth with that sweet noise of his laughter.
Sara was distracted in her own world to notice how much Heizou was struggling to pick up the roll. By the time she noticed, Heizou appeared very discouraged by his failure.
"Here." Sara set her own roll down so she could pick his up and hold it in front of his mouth.
Heizou looked at Sara then at the roll then back to her as he took a shy small bite. Well her plan on feeding Heizou surely came true but she didn't believe it would have made her so flustered! Perhaps it was the eye contact with the bite that caused it but regardless of why, Sara was now shy by her own plan.
Heizou continued to take small bites with his hand under his chin to catch any crumbs but he never looked down to watch where he bit because he kept his eyes on Sara.
Only Sara broke eye contact because she had to repeatedly change how she held the roll so it wouldn't slip and become ruined before Heizou could try it all. And not because his eye contact was making her nervous and unable to remain cool headed as if she didn't plan for this.
"Ah." Heizou gasped because the roll fell and missed his hand so it hit the wall. They stared at each other and Sara knocked Heizou's hand away when he tried to grab it.
"Here, we can share." Sara held the untouched corner of her roll to Heizou but he turned her hand around so he could take a bite from where she bit earlier.
"Delicious." Heizou smiled but then got his mouth stuffed with the rest because Sara's mind went haywired. He laughed as he tried his best to keep the roll in his mouth and thankfully didn't choke.
Once her mind was calmer, Sara mumbled an apology for her behavior then stacked the plates on the side to bring out the omelette rice.
"Did you buy food that required chopsticks so you would have to feed me?" Heizou pointed out but Sara took the first bite.
"The other stalls were packed." Sara lied then stuffed Heizou's mouth with more food. She slowly pulled the chopsticks off his lips so he had every bit in his mouth but he knew what she was doing.
Heizou wasn't going to say anything and let Sara continue to feed him because this was not something that comes by often. He probably knows it but he was also the only person Sara would do this for.
"Those egg rolls were very good," Sara took a rushed bite, "Ah I wish to have them again." She looked up from the plate to Heizou. He smiled but again, got his mouth stuffed with rice.
The two continued to share the meal until Heizou told Sara she would have the little remaining because he had two egg rolls. She thanked him and turned to watch the waves as she finished the last few bites.
Heizou would watch the waves but there was something more mesmerizing in front of him. When Sara noticed his staring, she looked over with a confused look then hurried to wipe her mouth just in case she had crumbs around her lips.
"Ah, you missed it." Heizou tsked then pushed the roll plates closer towards Sara so he could scoot over. Sara dropped her hand and turned her face so Heizou could wipe off the food but it wasn't food.
Sara held the plate tight as Heizou's lips pressed so softly against her own lips. With his thumb on her chin, Sara could not turn away, but not like she was going to because why ruin this perfect moment? When Heizou pulled away, Sara wanted Heizou to return the warmth he took away.
"Got it." Heizou gave her a quick peck on the lips then returned back to his seat with a big grin on his face.
"Really? I think you missed it too." Sara chuckled.
"Oh then let me get it again." Heizou happily leaned over again but this time kissed her cheek once then twice.
The homeowner watched the couple from their window, waiting for the right moment to go out, and offer them water because Sara forgot to buy some.
