Work Text:
You were sitting in the gardens of Lothlorien, enjoying the warmth of the setting sun on your back. Your fingers flitted along the strings of your harp, plucking gentle melodies off the instrument. Elves gave you fleeting smiles as they passed, clearly enjoying the music that you created, some stilling for a moment, engrossed in the music, before remembering where they were headed and continuing on. The evening was calm, birds flitting above you, singing their songs as the wind blew gently between the trees. A few squirrels raced along the silvery-grey trunks of the Mallorn, the small rustles drowned out by the scuffle of the grass. Everything was so calm and you felt at peace. You had just been released from today's duty as the bookkeeper for the king and queen, and you relaxed under the tree, letting the stiffness of your shoulders melt away as you played.
You jumped slightly when a shadow appeared on the warmly sunlit pages of your music sheets. You calmed down quickly when you realized who it was, as a warm hand slid along your shoulder and a kiss was pressed on the top of your head.
"Haldir, you scared me." You muttered, your fingers stilling on the strings as you met the grey eyes of your husband.
"I am sorry, my love. Please, don't stop playing." He sat down next to you, and you gave him a smile, brushing your nose against his, breathing in the familiar scent of fresh leaves and mint. Your fingers started gliding along the strings again, finding the ones to pluck as he traced his nose in the crook of your neck.
You couldn't see the way he was looking at you, you were too focused on the instrument in front of you, but every passing elf could see the look on Haldir's face.
The way he looked at you couldn't be described. His gaze was so intense, yet so gentle at the same time. His eyes rested on you as if they had never seen you before, but there was a love in them that only grew with time. His eyes remained on you like he feared you would disappear any minute, but as he closed his eyes, the smile on his face told him that he knew you were there, even without looking. It was pure awe, his eyes following your every movement, his arms gently tracing around your waist.
As his arms grew tighter around you, you gently pushed your harp to lean on the nearest tree. The instrument had been your mother's before you, and after she sailed a few years ago, it had become yours.
"What brings you here?" You asked, leaning back to look him in the eyes. You usually only saw him in the evening, as most of his days were spent patrolling the forest or training with other guards.
"I saw this and couldn't help but think of you." His words were gentle as he presented you with the rose in his hand. You gasped in delight, gently grasping the stem so you wouldn't snap it.
"I thought you were going to lead the evening patrol today?" You stood up, laying your hands on his shoulders. His hands came to rest on your waist, tucking you close, his nose brushing against yours.
"I sent them out without me, they can manage. I wanted to spend time with my wife." You hummed, pleased, pressing a short and sweet kiss to his lips. It was barely there but it didn't need to be longer, as both of you knew exactly what the other was saying.
"I missed you." , "I'm happy that you're here.", "I don't want to be apart from you again."
As you pulled away, he followed your lips, chasing the ended kiss, and you relented and gave him another one. This one wasn't a short peck. The world seemed to disappear around you as your lips sealed together, and he pulled you closer by your waist. Your lips danced in perfect harmony, the softness of the kiss filling every part of you. The fabric of his jacket was soft under your fingertips as you gently traced your fingers up his arms, your hands settling onto his shoulders, your fingertips digging into his shoulders, desperate to keep the kiss going. There was something so wonderful about it, you didn't want it to stop. You could feel that he felt the same way as the two of you were forced to break apart to breathe. You remained close to each other, breaths mixing as you gathered your breaths. A smile spread onto your lips as you leaned in to place a gentle kiss at the corner of his mouth. You were perfectly content with the situation, and the world seemed to hold just you and your husband as you remained as you were, caught in the moment.
