Chapter Text
Dean rubbed his eyes as he pulled Baby onto the interstate, speeding away from Portland and its cursed objects. Sam was already passed out in the passenger seat, exhausted from sleep deprivation and a confusing case. Dean wouldn't mind a few hours of zzzs for himself, but getting out of Oregon was top priority. As he set his jaw and fixed his eyes on the road ahead, he heard the lightest flap of wings before-
"Hello Dean." A gravelly voice spoke from the backseat.
"Jesus! Cas!" Dean swung around in his seat, before feeling the car swerve dangerously and turning back forwards. He glared at Cas in the rearview mirror. "What did I say about just showing up like that while I'm driving?" After the initial shock, Dean was actually quite pleased to see Cas for the first time in a while. But he wasn't about to say it. He saw Cas' brow furrow in the rearview mirror, and opened his mouth to reply when Sam came around and swivelled to talk to Cas. Dean's shouting must have woken him.
"Hey, Cas, what's up?"
"See, Dean? That is a more pertinent question." Cas said tetchily.
"Yeah, yeah, don't get your panties in a bunch. So what's the sitch?"
Cas opened his mouth, frowned again, and then shook his head and went on.
"There have been reports of leviathans up in Seattle, trying to take over the Space Needle for some kind of radio broadcaster. That is the Sitch" He put the word 'sitch' in finger quotations. Sam sighed and Dean grimaced.
"I guess we're headed up to Puget Sound then, huh. Cas, why can't we ever have a break between things?" He looked into the rearview to glower at Cas again, but the backseat was empty once more. "Dammit! never even says goodbye…."
Sam just rolled his eyes and settled back in to go to sleep. As Dean tried to think about Seattle, his thoughts wandered back to the angel that had just vacated his car. Why was he always so brusque with him? Why did Cas never stay longer than to inform them of a job? Dean quickly pushed these wonderings away as unhelpful, and settled in for the trip up to Washington. It was going to be a long night.
