Chapter Text
For the second time that day, Izuku found himself falling towards a body of water. He was just about to jump off the deck of the ship in the USJ, and suddenly, a wave of darkness had overtaken him. Now, he was falling again. He performed a slightly more comfortable dive this time, and paddled back up to the surface, surprisingly untouched by any villains in the area.
Paddling on the surface of the water, Izuku immediately realized he wasn’t at the USJ anymore. The sun shone brightly above, and, as far as he could tell, there was nothing at all around him. He must have ended up somewhere in the open ocean. He started to panic for a moment, before taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. Panicking wouldn’t do any good right now. He surveyed the horizon, hoping against hope that he would see anything. He was rewarded with a small sailing ship, far off, but moving slowly, and not away from him.
Taking a deep breath and thanking All Might for all the endurance training he’d done, Izuku started paddling his way toward the ship. Once he was close enough to make out people on deck, he occasionally paused and waved at them, trying to get their attention. He wasn’t far from the ship when he finally caught the attention of some of the crew, who threw down a life preserver on a rope.
Izuku eagerly swam to the life preserver, clinging to it as he was hoisted up onto the deck of the ship. As soon as he was safely away from the edge, he collapsed in a heap, breathing heavily and honestly happy to be alive.
One of the sailors kneeled down next to him, holding out a cup of water that he eagerly accepted. “So, what’s a kid like you doing out here in the middle of nowhere?”
Izuku was glad the man spoke in Japanesse, and he replied after he had a few sips of water. “I really don’t know. I was being attacked, and then, there was darkness, and I was falling from the sky.” This man didn’t need all the details right now, and Izuku was starting to realize something was off, so better safe than sorry.
The man nodded his head thoughtfully. “Lots of pirates in these waters. Not very safe to be traveling alone, especially for someone so young. Well, you’ll be safe enough here. You can stay on the ship until we reach the next island, just need to do some chores around here, alright?”
Izuku thought for a moment, then nodded. “Sure, sir. I’ll do my best!” He did his best to give a tired smile to the man, before returning to his water and his thoughts.
There was clearly something off, Izuku knew enough to know that there was nowhere in the pacific that could be described as having “lots of pirates.” That, in and of itself, could just mean the warp quirk could go all the way around the world. However, if that were the case, why was the sun above him, and why did these people speak Japanese. He was slightly surprised they spoke it at all, given the diverse nature of the crew he would have assumed this was an American vessel.
Izuku resolved to sit back and learn a bit more before he committed to anything. He was sure he’d learn soon enough what was up, just hoping that it wasn’t anything too irreversible.
-1 week later-
The trip to the island had been quite informative for Izuku. Some kind of quirk accident had clearly occurred, since he was almost certain he wasn’t even on earth anymore, let alone when he was. This world seemed to be much more unified than home, with regular talk of a singular World Government and Navy, that seemed to be the law of the land. He’d certainly consider joining them, but staying on this island wouldn’t get him there. It was tiny, and had little more than a small port and town around it.
He had already talked with the ship's captain, agreeing to serve as a cabin boy in exchange for passage and a small salary. Apparently, the ship he was on was a cruise liner, and one of the nicer ones traveling around this ocean, called the East Blue. He had 3 days of leave on this island, and he had things he needed to do.
First, he headed to a clothing store, getting some clothes to replace the ill-fitting clothes the sailors had leant him. He also grabbed a bag for his effects. Then, he headed to a bookstore, spending over half his remaining money on two new notebooks and a set of nice pens to go with them. The first, he intended as a journal. He felt like it would be useful to document things, and he’d always found writing out his thoughts helped him to understand them better, and he could use all the help he could get in this new world. The second, he intended as an analysis notebook. He’d had some time to meditate on One for All in the past week, and he knew it needed proper thought. Plus, he wanted to be able to write about any interesting people he meets.
He made a final stop at a small bakery, picking up a nice loaf of bread and some cheese for lunch as he headed out of town. The island was small, and he was certain he could navigate it well enough, so he climbed up a hill, sitting down and crossing his legs as he began to write in his new analysis book.
He spent much of the afternoon like that, pausing occasionally to stretch out or walk for a bit, but writing his thoughts into his new notebooks was calming, and he felt much better as he closed the journal, leaving his new analysis book open as he stood up. It was time to practice.
He felt the power of One for All thrumming deep in his chest, and he called upon it now, slowly easing it out, just letting it flow. He’d tried this a few times on the ship, and it hadn’t hurt him then, but he was letting more out this time, around 2 or 3 percent of it. Breathing in and out with his eyes closed, he felt the warmth throughout his body, then, he felt a slight prickle of electricity over his skin, not painful, but still present. He opened his eyes slowly, and was amazed by the green lightning slowly coursing over his skin.
He took a few more deep breaths, then took a step forward. He was amazed by the length of that step, and the speed he’d moved it, taking him almost out of the clearing. He turned cautiously, and saw some of the grass displaced, not enough that he was concerned, but he’d need to be careful on the deck of a ship at more power. Still, it was progress, and he smiled as he released the power, heading over to recollect his books.
-2 months later-
Izuku stood on the deck of the ship, watching as a whirlpool slowly passed by the distance. He wasn’t too worried about it, he’d heard a few guests say that this ship was too big to be damaged by it, and, while he didn’t believe that in the slightest, he trusted the captain. He was startled out of his thoughts by a yell from the opposite deck.
“Pirates! Pirates!”
Izuku didn’t waste any time, letting one for all course through him at one percent Full Cowl, he crossed around the deck quickly to face off against his first pirate attack.
-Unnamed Analysis Journal-
Name: Midoriya Izuku
Quirk: One for All
One for All, while on the surface a simple strength enhancement quirk, seems to do so much more. While I have it active, it seems to provide enhanced reflexes, reaction time, processing speed, and durability. I think there might be more to it as well. The quirk feels almost alive, and I’ve been having weird dreams about people I’ve never met, but so far, it hasn’t really acted up, so I’m not too concerned, something to be aware of, though.
Additional Notes:
I have taken to calling the limited use of the quirk I can handle Full Cowl. It’s distinct enough from a full power smash to deserve something like that. I still think it’s weird that it causes me to put off lightning, but I’ve tried to suppress it, and, unless I’m operating at about a tenth of my fully accessible power, it doesn’t go away. It also doesn’t seem to affect anything other than me, so it’s probably just a visible sign of my quirk working.
