Flora's Surprise

Summary:

Flora worries about the future of her shop, Floral Whisper. (I wrote a story based on the random character my husband said to. Lol)

Work Text:

Flora had just finished arranging a fresh batch of sweet flowers. They smelled so good and were sure to gain a lot of attention from passers-by. Looking around her small stand she realized she’d have to ask someone to go get supplies again. She couldn’t do this herself, not only was she too young, but she was no adventurer. As much as she didn’t want to, she’d have to put in another commission with the adventurer’s guild. This was taking a toll on her business.

While Flora was a little lost in thought, the strange bard she’d seen around walked by her stand. He was dressed in his usual green outfit and absent mindedly strummed his lyre and hummed as he strolled along. It sounded beautiful, almost angel-like and Flora could swear she even saw her flowers perk up at the sound.

He stopped and smiled at her. “These flowers are beautiful, you take such good care of them.”

“Oh yes, thank you! I love flowers so much…” She trailed off.

“Why the long face?” He put his hands on his hips, “It’s a bright, sunny day! The only person I’d expect to see with a frown on a day like today is Master Diluc.”

“Hey!” The woman on the walkway above Flora exclaimed.

The bard ignored her and continued. “Tell me, what’s wrong?”

Flora explained her predicament and he listened attentively. After he finished, he asked her a question that caught her off guard. “Flora, which matters more to you- the plants, or the business?”

Flora didn’t hesitate at all. “The plants are more important to me! They’re alive, just like us and I have a responsibility to care for them.”

The bard nodded. “I wouldn’t worry about it too much.” He lifted his lyre and began to strum it again, “The wind whispers to me you soon will discover, a way forward that will lead you to joy like no other. Hehe!”

With those words of wisdom, the bard bid her good evening and went on his way. She closed the shop feeling a little better. Maybe he was right, you can’t predict the future after all. She went home and went to sleep, the worries of the day having exhausted her.

The next morning Flora was startled awake by something small landing on her stomach. As she sat up, she saw it. A vision. A beautiful, glowing green one encased in gold. She could feel it calling to her and she slowly reached out and picked it up. Its connection to her immediately made itself known. This was for her, she now had her very own dendro vision!

Flora squealed with joy, tied it to her apron and hurried out the door to her shop. She was excited to see what she could do with her vision and the flowers. She would always put the needs of her plants first, but she now had what she needed to ensure that her business could thrive and continue to bring joy to the people of Mondstadt. She would no longer have to rely on others to gather supplies for her.

A short distance away, a bard strummed his lyre as a small girl swung on a vine swing connected to nothing. They watched the young shop owner talk to her plants, using her new vision to make them healthy and happy.

“She’s going to do great things.” The swinging girl said matter-of-factly.

“Yes, I believe she is.” The bard replied.
