The Truth (Omori AU)

Summary:

After learning the accurate story behind Maris death, Kel helps Sunny heal from the pain it's brought and tell the truth.

Notes:

Here's the first chapter of the AU I'm working on! The setting is just a couple of days after the fight between Sunny and Basil. Enjoy and let me know if I should continue it!

Work Text:

A gust of wind.

In reaction, Sunny would tremble, folding his thin arms over one another in an effort to stay warm. Yet, his demeanor remained unchanged; his eyes still had the same dullness. Bulging purple bags that dangled from below, expanding his formerly flat sockets.

Small goosebumps from the cold textured sunny's pale skin.

But none of that appeared to matter right now because the boy's focus was on the ground hundreds of feet below.

Sunny had been sitting quietly on the hospital building's roof when he was residing there. His hands would slowly extend, just able to secure a light grasp on the rusted metal railing that separated the building's edge into a little square.

The metal is decaying

as the pale boy slowly looked down his eyes widened with temptation and a soft voice whispered from behind,

`₲Ø ₳ⱧɆ₳Đ`

Sunny spun around, a small gasp escaping his lips as he did so. Who he saw made his stomach churr

`ĐØ ł₮, ĐⱤɆ₳₥ɆⱤ. JɄ₥₱.`

Omori spoke at that time. He was completely unrecognizable due to the distortion in his voice and the horrific facial deformity. Without their striped shorts and black tank top, Sunny probably wouldn't have recognized them.

`ł₮’₴ ₳ ⱠØ₦₲ ₩₳Ɏ ĐØ₩₦. ฿Ʉ₮ ɎØɄⱤ ₱₳₮łɆ₦₵Ɇ ₮ⱧⱤØɄ₲Ⱨ ₮ⱧɆ ₱ⱤØ₵Ɇ₴₴ ₩łⱠⱠ ฿Ɇ ⱤɆ₩₳ⱤĐɆĐ. ɎØɄ ₩Ø₦’₮ Ⱨ₳VɆ ₮Ø ₩ØⱤⱤɎ ₳฿ØɄ₮ ₴ɆɆł₦₲ ₴Ø₥Ɇ₮Ⱨł₦₲ ₩₳₮₵Ⱨł₦₲ ɎØɄⱤ ɆVɆⱤɎ ₴₮Ɇ₱. With their remarks, Sunny's entire body shook with fear. His face was painted with a fearful expression, and soon his eyes started to swell with tears.

Omori took a step forward while raising an alarming hand. Sunny was now gripped with anxiety as their calm demeanor had disturbed him to a nearly overpowering degree. Omori kept nudging him inching closer to the edge.

`₮ł₥Ɇ₴ ₳Ⱡ₥Ø₴₮ Ʉ₱, ɎØɄ’VɆ ₲Ø₮ ₮Ø ₲Ø ₦Ø₩, ĐⱤɆ₳₥ɆⱤ. ₴₮₳Ɏł₦₲ ⱧɆⱤɆ ₩łⱠⱠ JɄ₴₮ ⱤɆ₥ł₦Đ ɎØɄ ⱧØ₩ ₥Ʉ₵Ⱨ Ø₣ ₳ ₮ɆⱤⱤł฿ⱠɆ ₱ɆⱤ₴Ø₦ ɎØɄ ₳ⱤɆ.`

Sunny's back soon brushed cruelly against the railing, and a piece of the rusted metal broke off and fell aimlessly to the far-below surface. When Sunny saw it fade as it descended even farther, he momentarily lost focus and realized that he had been standing on the very edge of the roof.

Silence.

The next several seconds of petrification made the entire world appear to be utterly motionless. That didn't last long, though, as Omori continued to speak.

`₲ØØĐ₦ł₲Ⱨ₮, ₴Ʉ₦₦Ɏ`

Sunny closed his tired eyes and took a deep breath as he felt himself take one more step backward. Now, he could only hear the wind and a deafening ring that filled his mind.

The air was still

Sunny’s eyes opened

He wasn't moving

In fact, sunny had still been at the top of the building, but a warmth had been clasped around his wrist.

A pant for air

Huff

Huff

`Sunny.`

The pale boy would slowly turn his head around to gaze at the figure's hands. Their tight grip hit sunny with a depressing feeling.

A deep sadness. One in which brought tears to his tired eyes.

Sunny’s blurred vision made its way onto what had been responsible for his survival.

A trembling hand littered with several bandages gripped tightly onto Sunny’s life.

`What are you doing…?`

The figure would pull the boy back to safety, and into their arms where they cried

`Sunny you can’t do that please, I can’t lose anyone else`

The figure stopped and started to cry, their sobs containing a distinct sense of pain. It helped Sunny understand that this was reality and that he was still alive.

Sunny would now be more tightly held by the figure who started pausing more frequently to catch their breath after weeping.

`I'm sorry that things haven't been the best for you lately, I really am. But I’ll help you, I’m here for you if you need anything. Please just-`

Sunny felt himself growing more and more overstimulated as they spoke.

`Just talk to me, I'll do all I can, I’ll do anything I p-promise..`

The figures body would slack from its once tense state as they finally calmed themself down and forced a small smile

`I care about you buddy, we all do, Hero, Aubrey and even Basil. As hard as it may be to believe, we all love you.. I love you Sunny.`

The embrace of them, the embrace of comfort, of love. Was what followed the anon's words.
It was obvious who it was now.

Sunny’s best friend.

Kel.

“Stop it”

Sunny snapped

“Stop holding me back, stop it, I can’t be here anymore I need to-”
Sunny's eyes started to tear up again, and in what seemed like the space of a few seconds, he shoved Kel off of him and turned to face them, his eyes filled with rage.

“Everyday…I always wish I hadn't woken, Kel, every day. I ought to just die. But I find myself repeatedly waking up. I've reached my limit. Nevertheless, I keep noticing that thing…something... Kel, it's all over. it adheres to me. I can see it.”

Kel started crying more forcefully, his eyes were closed firmly, and yowls came out of his mouth as he sobbed "no no no" inconsolably. Sunny felt regret as he saw this. Now, his tears were flowing more freely.

Kel stood erratically, holding his chest while restraining his snivels.

“Stop acting like I deserve to be alive, No one deserves the privilege of having a life if they…if they…th-they..”
Sunny fell to his knees where he began to weep to himself, uttering incoherent words under his breath.

`What Sunny? What happened? What's the matter? Tell me everything. I'm listening.`
Once more, the tan boy embraced Sunny. He continued to comfort them while they continued to cry out quietly. Kel placed his hand on the back of their head and stroked his fingers through their hair.

“It’s Mari..she didn’t..- She didn’t kill herself..”
As Sunny firmly grasped Kel's shirt out of apparent terror, Kel's eyes opened just a little, he perked up, and he began to look down at Sunny.

"Kel, I murdered her. That was me—we got into this big argument, and I just—. She dropped when I shoved her over the top of the steps, and when she did, her neck was strangely twisted. Despite being broken, she was still alive. I tried to tell him but Basil was afraid and refused to trust me. She was still breathing, so I knew she wasn't quite dead; she had simply fainted..”

Kel's hold on Sunny grew looser. At first, only a smile and a gaping mouthful of nothing emerged from him. But at last he said something.

`Sunny..no…you couldn’t have she hung herself..it was a suicide..?`

Sunny hastily gripped Kel's arm as tears were now dropping down the very edge of his trembling chin and flowing down his cheeks. It ached to weep since Sunny's wounded eye was still recovering from being violently captivated by the blade of Basil's garden shears

“No..we hung her, we didn’t know what to do..I don’t know why I did it Kel…I’m so sorry.. I don’t want to lose you all again..I felt so alone..I was alone…I'm sorry”

He hid his face in his palms and started shaking as he fought back ever more tears. Sunny never sobbed aloud, he never let the stifled sobs of sorrow leave his lips, he never let the deep sadness concealed in his eyes be recognized, and he never responded positively or negatively when others asked him if he was okay. Sunny thought that he didn't deserve to be cared for since he was sick and twisted, all he deserved was to remain alone and bottle up all of his emotions because he deserved to feel them. But, perhaps this is the case because others didn't need to know or worry about such a dreadful person. Sunny felt as if happiness wasn’t something he deserved and now, he believed that feeling even more.

Despite all the thoughts in his mind having the collective impulse to get far away from them, Kel held Sunny closely. He wouldn’t leave them to cry alone. Though what they had done was a terrible, seemingly unforgivable act, it hurt Kel to know that his best friend had to deal with the guilt that came with this on his own even worse, for 4 whole years.

“I don’t want everyone to leave again, you guys are all I have. Please, don’t hate me Kel. I-...”

Distraught cries interrupted Sunny’s words and once again he began to fight back his weeps.

`Hey, it’s..it’s alright buddy, I’ll never hate you and I won’t leave. It'll be okay, we’ve just gotta learn to forgive, is all. But please.. don’t cry Sunny..`

Kel spoke softly, the sight of Sunny sobbing like this caused his eyes to glisten with tears, which he then shook as he stood up and extended a hand to help them.

`C’mon, you don’t need to be out here, it’s cold.`

As he hesitantly raised an arm to Kel’s assist Sunny was quickly yanked into a tight embrace, the brunette sobbed, his chin resting on Sunny’s shoulder where he whispered in a trembling voice,

`Never, try to do that to yourself ever again, no matter how bad the situation, you deserve to live, Sunny. You may have messed up..messed up bad..but that doesn’t mean, at all, that you don’t deserve the opportunity to be alive..okay?`

Sunny didn’t reply very verbally, instead he just nodded his head and murmured a distinct “mhm” into Kel’s ear.

`C’mon now, let’s head back in, you 're supposed to be leaving today but..I think you need more time to rest.`

Kel forced a smile on his face as he reached a hand out to grasp Sunnys, but his palm was left empty as Sunny shifted his hand to his side and looked away with guilt.

*`He’s such a sad person, that look in his eyes..he hasn’t felt genuine joy in so long, I can tell. But..I just can’t believe it..he..`*

The brunette’s eyes would prickle with tears and he silently motioned Sunny, who seemed noticeably hesitant, to follow him back into the hospital building.
