Steve loves Sam and his beautiful gap-toothed smile. Sam makes him feel alive, like he gets to have good things in this world, and Sam is the very best of them.
It's marvelous, Steve thinks, how gentle and kind-hearted and good Sam is. Sam cares about people so wholeheartedly. Steve can see it each time Sam goes to his groups and each time they are out and about together. He is kind to everyone he meets, unless they are being assholes. He makes people feel appreciated. He makes them smile and he is sweet, so incredibly sweet.
Sam is funny, too. He makes Steve laugh even on the days where he can barely smile or even breathe. Sam gets it. He gets that you need joy and laughter to get through the hard days. He gets that the hard days don't stop coming, but that you can make them easier. Steve hopes he eases Sam's hard days as much as Sam eases his. That he makes Sam laugh, too. That he makes him smile when he kinda wants to cry.
Steve loves Sam. He loves him with all he has. It's impossible not to. Sam's the very best, after all.
