Work Text:

Wabi-Sabi(Japanese)- finding beauty in imperfections

I like to think that the many scars littering my body have meaning. Every one of them are a different shape, color, and placement. But most importantly all of them have a different story.

From the scars on my cheek to the ones on the soles of my feet. It's easy for others to think that all of them have negative stories, such as my most infamous one.

Some of them are reminders of good memories, caused by my own simple stupidity. The four barely visible scars on my hand from trying to rescue a stray cat, or the scars on my left thigh from sea shells on Ember Island.

I find beauty in them all. Whether if the beauty is the person who caused them or just the scars themselves.

I view the fading shapes as beautiful patterns and myself as a canvas, abstractly covered.

Not caring if anyone else sees me this way is rewarding; I see my flaws as imperfect perfections.

My small but well-built frame makes me hard to spot. My steel gray hair shows wisdom and ambition, not age.

People can be so mean, making it easy to fall into the trap of insecurity; but they just can’t see the beauty in the marks, and what keeps me from being pulled under is proving people wrong.

I also like to think that I ended up with the most beautiful people in the world. They always tell me that I'm perfect; but even though I know that no one is, I am starting to believe them.
