Lin let's out a frustrated sigh as the pile of documents on her desk fail to deplete. The jasmine scented candle dwindles as time passes leaving faint scents of smoke in the air.
All the night shift officers have returned home to their perfect families and warm embraces. After a while Lin makes her way to her apartment relishing in nothing but pale moonlight and the chirps of the crickets nearby.
Another sigh is released from the Chief but not a frustrating one this time. One of sorrow, sorrow of something that could've been a sigh of relief.
The frames on the off-white walls and chestnut colored shelves suggest a delusion of happiness but the dark and minimally furnished apartment says otherwise.
Lin picks up the small golden framed photo and smiles softly. The metalbender has her arms around the waist of both a certain waterbender and firebender. Their heads are tilted back with bright gleams of happiness on their faces.
In a world of cruel reality the happiness subsides into nullity. Warm tears flood into Lin's eyes.
In a world of fabrication and mendacity, happiness isn't a delusion.
