Work Text:
The sunset’s rays made its way to the room of the two college students who were sharing silence, both fixated with their work. The law student was sitting at his desk that was currently occupied with two books, one that was opened around a hefty amount was at the side of his desk while the other was closed and placed in the far front of his desk. Something he plans on reading later when he’s finished with the first book. He was making an advance study regarding Criminal Law III that covers special penal laws. Though he was writing on the notebook that was in front of him, his eyes were glued to his laptop that he uses to make an extensive research concerning terms he desires to get a better grasp of for further comprehension.
On the other hand, the pink-haired roommate who was wearing a tight pullover sweater was found sitting on top of his bed, as the gentle glow of his computer screen washes over his face. His brows furrowed as he stared at his screen, eyes reviewing his work on an essay their professor assigned to them about the importance of the National Service Training Program that needs to be passed later. Although he was almost finished with his essay he just finds it still a bit lacking. After staring at his screen for a few minutes in deep thought, his eyes widened as his lips formed a little smirk. The sound of typing can be heard emanating from his keyboard for a few moments then suddenly coming to a stop, he released a sigh of cathartic relief. With a few more clicks he saved his work and transferred it into the USB.
Vincent, whose loose turtleneck sweater was met with the sunset’s gentle rays, turns to Victor while slightly raising a brow. As Victor stretches his arms up giving a slightly audible pop from it as he stands up from his bed.
“You’ve finished your essay I presume?”
“Yep” Victor curtly replies with a relaxed smile coating his face.
“When was the deadline of your assigned task?” he queried again.
Vincent was met with a short pause as Victor’s eyes scanned the ceiling in thought, then looked back down to his roommate.
“Our given deadline is around 6pm.” Victor stated.
He stared blankly at his roommate with pursed lips who was looking right back at him. They were met with another moment of silence, until Victor finally broke out a question.
“My dear, Vincent. Can I simply ask what time it is?”
Vincent turned his head back to his desk to view the time displayed at the corner of his laptop, 5:35pm . He raised his eyebrows and held his breath before revealing the time to his now running late roommate.
“...It is now 5:35pm.”
Another wave of silence fills the room as the two stare at each other.
Victor held both of his hands together, lifting it coming into contact with his chin, both of his index fingers in a pointing position touching the tip of nose. Standing up straight. Taking in a sharp inhale.
“Thank you, dear Vincent... Well, if you would excuse me I need to make a little trip to the printing lab.”
Victor suddenly bolts towards his bed to where his laptop was resting, immediately ejecting the USB that was in it. And sprinting towards the door giving Vincent a little wave before he left and accidentally slammed the door out of adrenaline. Leaving Vincent dazed while staring at the door for a while.
He found that a smile slowly crept into his face without even noticing, his mind replaying what went down before his roommate left the vicinity. The thought managed to escape a light chuckle out of him. He turned back to face his desk and reached for the gold metal string of the lampshade pulling it to continue his study.
It had been two years that they’ve been roommates together, despite their dispute in their first meeting. Though it wasn’t the most auspicious first meet, they’ve managed to resolve and make a propitious relationship with each other. As time passed by, oddly enough in spite of their mild differences they started enjoying each other's company more.
He’s surprised to find that although Victor usually seems carefree he’s actually pretty responsible, though his blunder from earlier was not a good example of that. He’s surprised to see how well put together his roommate was, and even more than him at times, not that he would ever admit it vocally to him.
Since Vincent likes to make an advance study regarding their lessons to give himself an ample amount of knowledge, he sets the night as his crunch time for studying. Working into the late hours of night to focus on achieving his goal. Only stopping once he’s done.
While Victor on the other hand, despite seeming casual and easy going, is actually a diligent person who balances his work and health. If he didn’t manage to finish his task since it was already late, he’d decide on dealing with it the next morning while multitasking other tasks.
More or less you can say that Victor was an early bird while Vincent was a night owl. This reminds him of the first time Victor did a small gesture of not only waking him up before can be considered tardy from his class, but also buying a cup of coffee for him to deal with his drowsiness. He recalls being dumbfounded at first by his roommate's surprise, eyes blankly staring at Victor. Only processing the gesture when he rubbed his eyes to look back at his tenderly smiling roommate and back to the cup of coffee. A trickle of warmth finds its way into the atmosphere enveloping the law student whole. Being infected with his roommates' considerate smile. He was elated upon receiving it and it did help him to power through his classes. He swore to himself that it would be one of the moments he’d treasure till the inevitable day comes.
Vincent allowing his roommate to open up to him didn’t just make their relationship grow, but created something he couldn’t dare to say was conceivable for him. A “friend”.
It bare fruit to something being dear to him. And in return Victor did the same to him. Developing a mutual sanctuary for one another. Allowing himself to be vulnerable to his roommate knowing that he’d be safe.
An audible pang of the windowpane caused by a cold blow of the wind pulled him out of his reverie. Despite wearing a loose turtleneck sweater, the tips of his fingers felt like small icicles.
How long was I lost in my own thoughts? …It’s been a while since I’ve been dazed to reminisce like this .
Though the law student had been quite consumed by many of his thoughts, it has always been about his goals, plans, and selfish interests. To be nostalgic thinking about a certain person made him feel poignant. Who knew meeting Victor would create such a change that affected him in small little ways, like a breath of warm fresh air soothing enough to make him feel at ease.
He turned away from his desk and saw his roommate’s dark maroon leather jacket hanging on their chair, which caused his eyes to raise in a furrow. It’s been almost a minute since they’ve gone out, maybe he could hand out their jacket to them…
Though the proposition of handing out their jacket to them seems futile…
Seriously, what is he thinking going out without his jacket in a frigid weather like this.
The casters let out a hushed squeak as Vincent got up from his dark office chair. Heading towards the opposite desk to grab the jacket, he makes his way to the door and gently turns the knob. Looking side by side down the halls with no sight of his pink haired roommate, he let out a defeated solicitous sigh. With that he gave the inevitable futile attempt a rest, and plans on just scolding them later on when they get back.
As he begins to set the jacket down on where it was before he hesitated, his eyes soften down taking note of the jacket’s silky cloth. Victor always had a casual flashy sense of fashion given the jacket’s hot pink straps with a metal buckle around it. An unreasonable voice of curiosity made way to the raven haired student’s mind.
I wonder…
He held the jack by the collar using his left hand and slipped his other arm through the jacket’s sleeve. Before he knows it he’s caught himself wearing Victor’s jacket. He brushed his hand to the side of the outer layer of the silky jacket feeling its soft sewn in threads. Noticing small details as to how the shoulder lining of the jacket was a bit long for him, despite the jacket looking seemingly fitted to Victor but to him it was a tad big. However, it looked a little short due to his height. Warm . He felt warmth upon wearing it, just like how warmth entered his chest whenever he saw his roommate crack up a smile to him.
A light pink hue dusted the law student’s face when his consciousness visited him. In a state of embarrassment he brought his hand to cup his face, to serendipitously get a whiff of a scent of a sweet musky fragrance of freshly picked strawberries with a hint of cardamom. Traces of Victor’s cologne envelops the warm cozy jacket, and Vincent having to realize it didn’t help to calm his heated cheeks from embarrassment, but he couldn’t help but to feel at ease from the soothing aroma.
Sigh… just what am I doing right now? I should stop this nonsense befo—
Before Vincent could even finish his trail of thought, the door to their dorm suddenly swung open to reveal the said pink haired roommate who was visibility fatigued.
“Ha… Dear Vincent you would simply not believe how fast I’ve manage to run just to turn that assignment in, not to mention I forgot to grab my jacket during such–”
The pink haired economic major stopped in his tracks while still in mid sentence, his eyes widened and jaw ajar to the sight bestowed upon him. His sudden intrusion has left Vincent stunned, the two maintained their eye contact with one another as silence filled the room. It only takes Victor a matter of seconds to summarize what must have happened while he was away, his pupils dilated as his gaze slowly softened at his flustered roommate. He managed to fix his composure as he spout :
“Oh? Was it that cold that my jacket looked comfortable for the chilly weather, dear?~”
Vincent was still left startled by Victor’s sudden intrusion only giving himself mere seconds to compose himself to reply, while his eyes were stuck to anything but his roommate. His cheeks flushed redder by the second.
“V-Victor, I-uh was concerned when you left without your jacket especially during such an algid weather.”
Victor looked at him tenderly, cheeks lightly dusted with tints of pink. Seeing the law student avoiding his gaze to prevent themselves from stammering as their embarrassment continues to grow to every second that passes, grasping on straws to give a valid argument. It was an amusing sight for Blake to see.
As time went by Victor began to notice different sides of his roommate, small details as to how his eyes glint to every time he’d found a new philosophy book to read. How his gaze softens to a stray cat that he passes by. Or how his irked face looked due to being pissed off by a certain international kid from G2. The form of the bags under his eyes that resulted in the all-nighters they’ve pulled. Especially, the warm welcoming smiles and understanding eyes he gives to Victor as he tries to listen to him intently. Each to all those sides his roommate revealed, he loved it all.
Victor thought of this all as he stared at his flustered roommate who was still making up their reasons and arguments to throw at him.
“I was supposed to hand it to you, but when I went to check outside our dorm you were already gone.”
“Is that so? Well thank you for your consideration and I apologize if I made you worry for me. I should have been more mindful.”
The pinkish tinge on Vincent's face starts to subside as he subtly let out a sigh of relief. The law student finally felt the tension leaving the room, grateful that Victor finally believed his case. But the a twinge of temptation tapped into the pink haired economic major’s mind for him to suddenly retort with a teasing devilish smile plastered on his face:
“Though, I would say you look rather adorable in it~”
With that the raven haired student was once again left flustered as he swiftly took off the dark maroon jacket and it was suddenly met with Victor’s face while echoing a sound of a strong smack, due to the jacket being thrown at his face. Though Vincent cannot see it Victor beamed with mirth in his eyes on how easily he railed his roommate up.
“Sh-shut up, Blake!”
“Aww Vince, you can keep it if you want~”
Vincent let out an exasperated huff, prepared to bombard Victor with his incoming rants, as he’s roommate kept pressing on regarding the delightful circumstance he saw earlier. Oblivious to the fact that a smile had managed to creep its way into his face. The next thing they knew was that the room was filled with some light banter.
