Chapter Text

First, my bestie, Shuhua. We’ve been best friends for longer than I can remember. Well… at least it feels like it.

She moved here from Taiwan before she even entered pre school and when I tell you she ruled that pre school, I’m not even exaggerating. Imagine a pale, black-headed four-year-old who doesn’t even speak the language, screaming at Korean kids to gather in line so that she can decide whether or not they’re eligible to be her friend.

She grew up on the countryside but that didn’t prevent her from keeping up with all the city gossip. Shuhua knows everything about everyone who’s ever stepped a foot in Seoul but she rarely speaks about it. Only I ever get to hear about her flaming hot tea. And Soojin, of course. I don’t even know how she knows everything, she rarely speaks to anybody outside of her circle. That’s just one of her many secrets.

Shuhua’s into everything and nothing all at the same time. She switches interest the same way one would switch clothes. One day she can’t stop talking about a certain book, and the next day she acts like she’s never even heard of it. However, she’s always liked baking and dogs. Our friends tell her to open a puppy cafe but Shuhua says it’s too much work. Chilling is her number one activity. Sometimes she disappears for days without telling anyone, but that’s just her burying herself in her pillows.

Usually, people don’t know exactly where she stands. She’s mysterious in a way that frightens people. They’re apprehensive to say certain things when she’s in the room, like their opinion about a political view or a dish. Even I’m scared sometimes, although I know she’d never lash out on me.

But above all else, she’s so cute! She has these big, brown puppy eyes that are impossible to say no to. And everyone’s wrapped around her finger like a golden ring. Her word is law.

I wish I was her sometimes.
