A Special Practice Session

Summary:

Toya invites Akito to practice singing alone with him, but then it becomes something much more.

Rated T to be safe (mostly G-rated)

Inspired by an Area convo where they talk about singing alone with just them two (it’s really cute tbh.)

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

“Hey, didn’t expect to see you here,” Toya walked up to Akito who had just rounded the corner.

“Come on, I don’t skip that often,” Akito and Toya both knew he was lying.

“You come in like once a week,” Toya let out a gentle laugh.

“I come more often than that,” Akito looked down briefly.

“You really should work on coming more often. Anyways, are you down for some vocal practice after school?”

Akito looked back up. “Sure! See you then,” Akito walked away rather quickly. ‘I hope he actually takes my advice. I’d like to see him around more,’ Toya thought with a small smile as he headed to his next class.

Both boys had finished with their classes and found each other again in Street SEKAI. Akito started running and met up with Toya.

“Hey!” Akito caught his breath.

“Don’t tire yourself out too early,” Toya advised, “how were your classes?”

“Boring. I’m surprised Kohane and An aren’t here.”

“We’ve got the place to ourselves then.” Toya looked around to see if any Virtual Singers were around only to find no one else in sight before looking back at Akito.

“Got a song in mind?”

Toya thought for a little as he scrolled through his phone before picking a song they could sing, “you know this song, right?”

“Yeah,” Akito answered after listening to the first few seconds.

The two spent a few hours singing both with and to each other, taking breaks to praise and critique their voices.

“I’m kinda getting hungry, wanna swing by Meiko’s café?” Akito offered after the last song finished.

“Sure,” Akito and Toya walked next to each other down the street towards Meiko’s café. Toya couldn’t help but more-than-occasionally look down at the slightly shorter man he walked with, eventually grabbing his hand absentmindedly as the two walked, which Akito didn’t let go of in response.

“I‘ll get that for you,” Toya opened the door in front of Akito, letting him pass.

“Thanks!” The two stepped inside.

“Hey!” Meiko walked up to them from the bar counter, “y’all already know what you want?”

Toya and Akito looked at each other. “Yeah,” Akito looked back up at Meiko as the two went to sit down at one of the booths.

Toya slid in first, followed by Akito, before they turned to face each other.

“Anything interesting going on with you?” Akito asked, looking at Toya.

“Not really. I mean we both have exams-“

“Uugh, don’t remind me Toya!” Akito moved a little closer, “you know, I kinda miss being alone with you like this.”

The way Akito moved so innocently as he said it nearly broke Toya as the latter felt a small blush creeping on, “I do too,” Toya’s voice was less deep than usual.

Akito moved even closer, their legs touching bar their pants, “we should do this more often,” Akito looked directly into Toya’s eyes, his own sparkling brightly, his face blushed a color comprable to his bright hair.

“Food’s ready!” Akito jumped in the booth as he turned to the sudden voice.

“Tha-thank you Meiko,” Akito helped Meiko pass Toya’s food to him before taking his own.

“Thanks,” Toya laughed a bit as Meiko walked away and Akito turned back to him. The two scooted closer together as they both took a bite of their food.

“This is amazing,” Akito commented.

Toya took the time to cover his mouth first, “it’s always amazing!” The two ate their food and not-so-subtly drank in each other with frequent glances, sometimes quickly looking away when one caught the other staring - although it was Akito who got caught far more often.

Akito leaned on Toya as they slowed down their eating. “Are you getting tired?” Toya wrapped his arm behind Akito’s lower back.

“A little, yeah,” Akito rubbed his head a little on Toya’s shoulder.

A soft tap caused Toya to look out from the table to find two to-go boxes and Meiko walking away from the table.

“Wanna take this home,” Toya gestured to the to-go boxes.

“Oh do I wanna take you home,” Akito sighed for a moment before suddenly jerking his body away from Toya, “you didn’t hear that,” Akito looked at the food, “also yeah we can take this home.”

After packing their meals, the two grabbed their boxes and got up from the booth. As the two left, Toya hollered out, “thank you Meiko!”

“No problem!”

Slowly and aimlessly, the two walked around the SEKAI. They knew they should head back but something kept them from leaving each other’s side. “Hey,” Toya tried to spark conversation.

“Yeah,” Akito’s usual energy was absent from his voice.

Toya sighed, “are you alright?”

Akito was silent for a little before responding, “not really.”

“What’s wrong?” Toya knew what was wrong but asked anyway.

Akito stopped and sighed, finally looking up at Toya, his twinkling eyes darting around Toya as Toya’s eyes stared into Akito’s. Akito held Toya in a tight embrace, burying his face into Toya’s chest. Akito spoke quiet noises in the midst of gentle cries, but the words were unintelligible.

Toya hugged back with one arm and gently ruffled Akito’s messy hair with his other hand. “It’s okay,” Toya reassured. Akito soon broke the hug and wiped his eyes while taking a deep breath before finally looking up at Toya.

“I-“ Akito tried to start, but the words didn’t come out, “I-“ Akito tried again, but this time he was interrupted by Toya leaving a small, quick kiss on Akito’s forehead.

“I love you, Akito,” Akito’s face flared red as he wrapped his arms gently around Toya’s upper back, pulling him a little closer than they already were. Toya rested his hands on Akito’s waist as they both leaned into each other.

Akito got on tiptoe and kissed Toya, who leaned in to allow Akito to stand normally as they kissed. Their hands glided along each other’s backs, and Toya felt a hand climbing up and under his shirt.

The kiss finally broke, but neither felt the need to back away, their faces were only a few inches away from each other. “I love you, Toya. Thank you.” Toya let go of Akito only to cup his face with his hands.

“I should be thanking you,” Toya left a small kiss on Akito’s lips, “I’m so happy to finally be holding you like this,” Toya initiated another long kiss with Akito, one Akito was ecstatic to receive as he kissed back.

“How long have you wanted this?” Akito asked as they broke the kiss.

“I don’t know and right now I don’t care,” Toya wrapped one arm around Akito’s waist, gently propping Akito’s chin up with his a closed fist, “all I know is that I love you so much, Akito.”

“I love you too, Toya,” Akito gently moved the hand out from under his chin and hugged Toya, “I’m so happy we’re finally together, Toya.”

“I am too, Akito,” Toya hugged back. “How about we go back to the real world together?”

“Maybe in a bit,” Akito replied as they stayed in each other’s embrace for much longer than a bit.
