Work Text:

The Gryffindor common room buzzes with excitement as the celebration of another Quidditch victory against Hufflepuff rages on. The whole of Gryffindor house is there, along with other students that have found their way in, relishing in the thrill of the colossal victory.

James had begged Regulus to come and so he had, albeit reluctantly. He sits on one of the lounges at the edge of the room, watching his boyfriend mingle and laugh with the rest of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. As the night progresses, Regulus feels himself grow more and more frustrated with the endless stream of students who clearly think it's a good idea to flirt with his boyfriend. He can only watch on as James laughs with them, completely oblivious to the jealousy burning in Regulus' chest.

The party is in full swing when he notices James is chatting with Fabian Prewett in particular. The Prewett twin is laughing at everything James says, and Regulus swears he can see him batting his eyelashes from across the room. His first thought is to give James space, sure he can handle it on his own. But after a while, it becomes startlingly obvious that James is completely oblivious to the twin's advances.

Fabian leans in closer, touching James' arm, and James just smiles and keeps talking. It's like he doesn't even notice that someone is trying to hit on him. Regulus can feel himself squeezing the armrest beside him and Evan raises an eyebrow at him.

“Why are you strangling the poor lounge, Reg?”

Barty leans over to follow Regulus’ gaze which remains trained intently on James and Fabian. “Ah, I think our dear Reggie might be feeling a little jealous. Go on, claim your man!” Barty encourages him with a nudge to the ribs.

"Yeah,” Evan adds with a smirk, “before someone else snatches him up.”

It's official, Regulus needs to find new friends. “Fuck off” he sneers, elbowing them both in the stomach before standing up to make a move. He flips them off as they cheer him on sarcastically.

Regulus strides across the room towards James and the Prewett twin and stands between them, interrupting their conversation. "James, darling, I need you for a moment," he says, trying to keep his voice neutral.

James looks up at him, surprised. "Alright, love?" he asks.

Regulus doesn't answer. Instead, he pulls James away, his grip possessive and tight around his waist. James follows willingly, feeling a rush of excitement at the sudden display of possessiveness.

"What's wrong, Reg?" James asks once Regulus finally stops dragging him along, his face creased with a mixture of confusion and mild concern.

"Do you know how many people have been flirting with you tonight?" He takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself as James waits intently. "I'm tired of everyone flirting with you, James," his voice is low and intense. "I want everyone to know that you're mine and no one else's."

James just looks at him, bemused. "What are you talking about, Reg?"

Regulus feels his frustration growing once more. "I’m talking about Prewett! He’s been practically throwing himself at you all night long!"

James blinks, tilting his head to the side. "Oh, was he? I thought he was being friendly."

Regulus cannot believe the audacity of this boy. "Friendly? James, he was flirting with you!"

James just shrugs. "So? I'm with you, Reg. Everyone knows that."

Regulus takes a step closer to him. His hands sliding along James' chest, causing him to shiver at the display of possessiveness. "I don’t want anyone else flirting with you. You're mine, darling," his voice is low and dangerous. "No one else's. Do you understand?"

James flashes him a smile, completely unfazed. "Of course, love," he says, his eyes shining with affection. "All yours."

Regulus feels a surge of territorial satisfaction wash over him, knowing that James was completely oblivious to the flirting and only has eyes for him. He leans up slightly and kisses James deeply, claiming him in front of everyone in the room. He feels Fabian staring at them, and smirks into the kiss. James is his, and it’s about time everyone realised that.

Sirius watches in disgust and exaggerated horror as his best friend and brother slow-dance together in their own little world. He's stood at the corner of the room, arms crossed, a deep scowl etched on his face. He watches as James and Regulus dance, the latter possessively holding his boyfriend in his arms. He rolls his eyes at Regulus' possessiveness towards James, but even he can't deny how happy they look together.

"Ugh, those two are so gross," Sirius mutters under his breath, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

Remus, who'd also been watching the scene unfold, can't help but chuckle at Sirius' dramatics. "They're just in love, Padfoot. Can't blame them for that."

"I can if I'm being forced to watch my brother steal my best mate from me," Sirius huffs.

Remus laughs, "You Black's and your possessiveness. You know they're just having fun, right?"

"Fun? This is not fun," Sirius says, gesturing wildly towards James and Regulus. "This is a crime against humanity."

Remus rolls his eyes. "Oh, calm down, love. They're just dancing."

Sirius scoffs, preparing to complain some more but Remus interrupts, "Come on, let's join them," he says, tugging him towards the crowded dance floor.

Sirius tries to resist, but Remus' warm body is pressed against his own, and as soon as Sirius feels Remus's hand in his, his worries melted away. Everything else fades into the background as he gazes into the eyes of the love of his life. "Who cares about them when I’ve got you?" he asks, a sweet smile gracing his lips.

Remus grins back, "You're damn right.”

They both dissolve into laughter, forgetting all about the drama happening on the sidelines. As long as he had Remus by his side, Sirius didn't care about anything else.
