Chapter 1
"So Kaitlyn truth or dare?" Emma looks at her with a smirk.
"Dare." She replies without giving it much thought. No one but Kaitlyn would choose dare so carelessly, and especially not when it's Emma's turn. She is known for giving the most difficult tasks. But Kaitlyn lets her have fun.
"Hmm, let me think for a second...you have to kiss Dylan or Jacob."
Kaitlyn hesitated for a moment. She thinks Jacob is great and pretty much everyone knows that, but she doesn't know if he feels the same way. Jacob has been out with Emma all summer, and she doesn't want to ruin it for them. But if she kissed Dylan, Ryan would be pissed.
As if Emma read her mind, she says, "The thing with me and Jacob was just for the summer, so don't worry." Emma already has her eyes on someone else, Abi. The Abi, who just spends her time drawing in her notebook, barely noticing what is happening around the campfire. Emma often looks over at her and just watches her draw, and the longer she stares, the more she blushes. Over the summer, Emma has developed quite a crush on Abi and every single day she wonders if Abi feels the same way, including today. Emma's attention turns back to the group, where Kaitlyn is making her way towards Jacob.
How long Kaitlyn has waited for this, and finally it's here. She leans down to him and kisses him. Everyone cheers. When the kiss was over, she went back to her seat and acts cool, even though inside she is freaking out. But now it's her turn, and she's going to get back at Emma. "Abi, truth or dare?"
Abi didn't really notice that it was her turn to choose, she was too busy drawing Emma. She had drawn Emma many times in all possible places in the camp, so no one was allowed to see what she was drawing. Only when everyone stares at her, she realizes that it is her turn "Uh yes sorry I take.... dare." Everyone was surprised Abi had never taken a dare.
Nick had to grin slightly, he hoped that it would be her kissing him. He tried to flirt with her all Summer, but she never flirted back. He had the feeling Abi had her eyes on someone different, but he couldn't Imagine Abi being into Dylan, Ryan or Jacob.
"What I also want to have fun for once so don't all look at me like that" she blushed. Abi was very shy, that's why everyone was so surprised.
Ryan and Dylan had to laugh, then Abi had to grin too, and Emma just enjoys Abi's beautiful smile.
When it was quiet again, Kaitlyn continues, "So, Abi kiss Nick or Emma".
Abi's heart stops for a second. She wanted to kiss Emma all summer, and now she finally had the chance. But what would Emma think, she is definitely not into women, she was with Jacob all summer. And then there is Nick... Abi knows that Nick likes her, and she really doesn't want to hurt him or his feelings.
Emma was as surprised as Abi. But everybody knew that Abi and Nick have something going on, at least Nick has something for Abi. She wouldn't choose Emma, would she? She has to watch her crush kisses Nick. Emma does not like the idea at all. She is torn from her thoughts when Abi suddenly stands up. All eyes are on her.
Everyone looks at her, thinking it will be Nick, but Abi turns her back to Nick and walks towards Emma. So many things were going through her head, but she ignores it and keeps walking towards her crush. Abi chose Emma and everyone was shocked but Nick the most. Abi sat down on Emma's lap and lifts the other girls face up while leaning in to kiss her. Emma didn't know how to react at first, but then leans into the kiss. She tasted Abigail's chapstick, which she saw the other girl putting on every morning in their Cabin. They both now had what they were craving all summer. Emma put her hand on Abi's cheek and enjoyed every second she got to kiss her. Everyone just stares at them with their mouths open.
Emma didn't know Abi was such a good kisser, and it just felt right kissing her best friend, the person who made her summer so much better.
Nick clenches his fists, he can't stand to see Abi kissing anyone else, and especially not Emma. He hated the other girl, she always managed to steal Abi from him. He gets up and storms off into the woods before anyone can stop him.
Abi breaks the kiss and gets up again, "Shit, I need to talk to him, that was really not cool". She runs after Nick and hears Emma call out "be careful" until she completely disappears into the woods.
Emma already misses the feeling of Abi's lips touching hers. The warmth from Abi's body, it all felt so right. The strawberry taste of her chapstick and the other girl's sweet scent.
"So you and Abi..." says Kaitlyn in a provocative tone.
"Didn't know you were into women" Jacob interferes. He was jealous big time. Emma never kissed him with so much passion while they were together.
While Dylan is already humming wedding music loudly and Ryan joins in.
"I'm bi asshole, and I'm sure Abi doesn't feel the same way". Emma blushes slightly.
"If you had seen the kiss you would think differently" says Dylan after he finally stops humming. "She seemed to enjoy herself quite a bit“ he chuckles.
Emma blushes even more at the thought of the kiss. Abi's scent as she entered her personal space so comforting and when she sat down on her lap, Emma was taken by surprise. And her lips were so soft, and she kisses so fucking good.
"When Abi comes back, you can talk about it," Kaitlyn assures her and interrupting her thoughts.
Emma just nods, and now the waiting begins. She hopes that Abi is alright, and that Nick can't convince her that Emma and her are not going to work.
"Nick, Nick, where are you?" Abi runs quickly through the forest. She didn't want to hurt him, they need to sort this out now.
"Here" he yells back. Nick isn't sure what to feel right now, so much emotion all at once.
"Hey" Abi puts a hand on his shoulder, "I know what I did with Emma wasn't cool, and I'm sorry. But we can't work out you're a nice guy, but that's the problem you're a guy, and I'm not into guys... I'm really sorry, Nick."
Nick wipes his tears and turns to her, "Don't apologize for it, it's not your fault, you can love who you want. And I don't know why I ran, I really want you to be happy, but it just hurt, I'm sorry" The two of them don't notice that something is watching them in the bushes behind Nick.
"Thank you for being so-" Abi can't finish her sentence.
Nick is thrown to the ground by something. It looks like a huge animal with sharp claws. It bites Nick and tries to pierce him with its claws. His scream was deafening.
Abi didn't know what to do, she was in shock. Nick needs help, her help, as she realizes this she looks around in panic for something with which she can fend off the animal. She grabs a large branch and hits the animal, which immediately turns in her direction. Abi had saved Nick, but now it wants her. She walks backwards slowly so as not to let it out of her sight. Just as she is about to start running, it sprints towards her and rams her to the ground as well.
Sharp pain shoots up her back as she hit the forest floor and fear flooded her system, she couldn't move.
Nick takes the chance and stands up. The place where he was bitten is burning, making it difficult for him to run. He sees the animal lying on top of Abi, running its claws along her arm. He alone is defenseless, he has to tell the others they have a gun.
Abi only sees Nick walking away towards the fire, leaving her behind, she thought to herself, how could he? The disappointment was visible in her eyes, but that is interrupted by the pain of teeth sinking in her skin.
She screams in pain, Nick can hear, but he does not turn around and keeps walking. "I'm so sorry Abi... I will get help."
Abi just kissed Emma, will she seriously die now if she just has a chance with her crush. She closes her eyes, accepting that these will most likely be her last moments, and thinks back to the kiss. How good it made her feel, how right it felt. Will Emma miss her? Or will she just find someone else? Many thoughts run through Abi's head as the animal is about to deliver the final blow. But instead of stabbing pain, she hears a gunshot.
