I couldn’t remember what had happened. All I knew was I had done something wrong. I mean the commission wouldn’t hurt me if I hadn’t done something wrong. I just couldn’t remember what I had done. I couldn’t remember anything from our “session”. All I could remember is the pain in my feathers and all along my body. Speaking of pain, here I was dumped in a back ally bleeding out. I knew the commission wouldn’t let me die, they’ve invested too much money to let that happen.
That’s not what I am worried about at the moment, no what’s worrying me at the moment is the shadow coming towards me. I could tell they were saying something, but I wasn’t able to make out what they were saying. So with my ears rings, my vision blurring and my whole body in so much pain, with the shadow figure approaching me, I passed out.
Waking up wasn’t something that was pleasant. It wasn’t pleasant in a normal day, but today was 10x worse then it normally was. It wasn’t till I hear someone talking that I realized why that was. I quickly shot up, then screamed from the pain in my body.
“Hawks you need to lie the fuck down before I climb on top of you and make you lie down.” It took a moment to realize who was talking.
“Dabi? What- what’s going on.” My throat hurt so badly, talking felt like I was eating sand paper.
“What’s going on?! What’s going on is I found you half dead in an ally way! Who knows what would have happened if I wasn’t there!” Dabi sounded mad. Why was he mad? It wouldn’t matter if Hawks died, all it would be is an inconvenience.
“The commission wouldn’t let that happen, they’ve invested to much in me.” I didn’t seem to realize just what I had said until I looked up at Dabi to see his facial expressions a mix of confusion and anger.
“And what the fuck does that mean birdbrain?” Dabi had smoke coming out of his skin. I didn’t know that happened. That can’t mean anything good for me.
“It’s nothing, hotstuff. Now if you don’t mind I have somewhere- AHH.” Suddenly my body was pinned to the sofa (which was a really uncomfortable sofa) by a flash of blond.
“Hawksie!! You’re awake. You looked so pretty covered in blood! Can I cover you in blood sometime! It would be so much fun!” Suddenly Toga broke out in giggles.
“Toga.” I looked up to see Dabi with a very serious expression on his face, one I hadn’t seen since we were first meeting in back ally’s.
“Oh don’t be such a downer, Dadbi. Did you see what I did there Hawksie!? I mixed-“ Suddenly Toga was ripped off of me. When looking up I couldn’t help but laugh. Toga was being held in the air with a pout on her face as she tried at bite Dabi, who looked like he wanted to be doing anything else. At my laughter the both looked at me.
“The fuck you looking at birdbrain.” Dabi said.
“Holy shit that was funny. You had her- and she-“ Suddenly I broke out into laughter. Toga has been giggling about the fact that she had made me laugh while Dabi, looking less then amused, dropped her. She stopped laughing when her butt hit the floor and she looked up to pout at Dabi.
“Birdbrain. I need you to-“ Dabi was interrupted by the sound of the door slamming open. When I look behind the couch I saw that it was Twice.
“God damnit, can I not get out a single fucking sentence!” Dabi screamed, but he was ignored by everyone in the room.
“Hawks are you okay I was so worried! I wasn’t worried at all you could die for all I care.”
With Twice it was always hard to tell just what he meant, so I normally used his facial expression’s to guess what he meant, but my vision still wasn’t the best.
“Fucking hell, Hawks.”
Now this has caught everyone attention. Dabi very really call me Hawks. It was always some stupid nickname. When he did call me by my “name” you knew that he was serious.
“Yeah what’s up hotstuff.” I said with a nervous chuckle.
“What the fuck did you mean when you said the commission had “invested too much in you to let you die”.”
After he said this instead of everyone looking at Dabi in shock, they were all looking at me.
“It’s nothing hotstuff I promise.” Normally I was a great lier, so what the fuck was going on.
“Fine you’ve left me no choice. Toga go grab Kurogiri and Shigaraki.”
“What-No Dabi its fine-“ I was starting to panic. If he brought in Shigaraki and Kurogiri then I would be forced to tell them.
Toga stood up as ran to the door before I was able to stop her. She was back in just a minute with both Shigaraki and Kurogiri behind her.
“Hello Hawks, I am glad to see that you are doing better, Dabi was quite distres-“ Kurogiri started to say before he was interrupted by Dabi.
“That isn’t why I called you here,” was his face pink? “I called you here cause birdy over there said something and he won’t tell me what it meant.”
“Oh boohoo Dabi your little boyfriend won’t tell you some-“ Shigaraki was also interrupted by Dabi. Wow he was right people do get interrupted a lot here.
“He told me that the commission “invested too much in him to let him die.”
It grew silent for a moment before i spoke up.
“Guys it’s really not that big of a deal.”
“What the fuck does that mean Hawks. If you don’t tell me I will take it as you with holding important inform and kill you so you better fucking tell me.” Shigaraki looked dead serious. I took a shaky breathe before speaking.
“When I was a kid we were dirt poor, like we lived in a shack on the outskirts of town. My father had killed someone over some petty thing,”
I watched as Toga and Twice made shocked faces, Dabi, Kurogiri and Shigaraki didn’t react other than Dabi taking a sharp breath.
“ So he ran away with my mom. That’s when they found out she was pregnant with me. From the moment they knew about it was as though they had decided I was worthless,” I looked down. “ I wasn’t aloud outside as a kid, because my father was so scared I would snitch on them. He would come home drunk and beat the shit out of me for just existing.”
This confession got a reaction out of everyone. Everyone had different reacts from Toga looking alike she was two seconds away from crying to Dabi looking like he was murder someone.
“My mother wasn’t much better. She didn’t beat me but she was never really there. She had lost her mind long before I was born. I hadn’t thought hero’s were real as a kid. So on one of the rare times my mother took me out, she bought me an Endeavor plushy because the Allmight ones were to expensive.”
Dabi seemed to freeze up when I said this. I knew he didn’t like Endeavor, but he said he wanted the whole truth so gees getting it.
“One day my wings started to hurt, so I went outside to make sure everything was okay. When I got back my father was waiting for me. He had thought I had snitched even after I said I hadn’t. He gave me one last beating before he left. The next day he was caught by Endeavor. This was amazing news to me I mean Endeavor had basically saved me.”
Dabi made a face like he had just solved the worlds biggest mystery.
“After this happened my mother was so scared that they would come for her too, so we left the dirty fucking shack.” I don’t know when I had started crying. “We lived in the streets for a while. My mother spent all day either basically frozen in the same position or degrading me. Until one day I went out for food and I saw a car crash. It was like my body moved on my own, one moment I was flying and watching the world move on without me and the next I was sending my feathers to make sure everyone got it okay. I panicked after this so I ran away, but that didn’t matter. The commission found me a few days later an offered to pay my mom enough money that she would be set for life and they said they would clear her off all charges if she let them have me. So from that day forward I wasn’t a person, I was property. They trained me as hard as they could. Some of it was easy, but some of it was literal torcher, like they torched me until I didn’t react.”
“So that was my life. When Dabi found me I had just left a “session” with the commission. I don’t know what I did wrong, but I did something wrong the commission wouldn’t puni-“
“You better shut the fuck up if you don’t want me to dust the entire fucking commission,” I looked up in surprise when Shigaraki said this. “Nobody, least of all you, deserves that. So you better shut the fuck it with that “ I deserved it” bullshit.”
When I looked up I saw that everyone was agreeing with him. I couldn’t believe it. Why aren’t they mad at me. I haven’t done anything to deserve their kindness. my mouth opened and closed like a fish for a few seconds before Dabi said something.
“We’re not letting you go back there. you’re apart of this family and we take care of our family.” He looked me straight in the eyes while saying this.
Just as I was about to answer him Compress burst through the door.
“I just got your text Dabi! Is Hawks okay?!”
He looked so frantic that everyone burst into laughter. This was my family, and I’m going to take care of them just like they would take care of me.
