abundance of roses

Summary:

“As someone who is always by your side, I could tell just by your dilated eyes looking at them,” Wataru commented, “which is why I built this garden of roses, just for you,”

A rose garden emerged as well as a romantic talk between Wataru and Eichi.

Notes:

Hello there! First time writing Enstars fic with my OTP - WataEi! I honestly love them so much, it's disbelieving for me to take this long to write! This is also a commemoration for the animated Element + publication of BlackBird! I adore the relationship development between Wataru and Eichi, they're so complex and they're a work of art! I hope this work will show my love for them - and Enstars as a whole!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Wataru, the garden today is gorgeous. Did you decorate them today?” The blond man sitting at the tea table sipped his tea as he tapped the standing man’s elbow.

“Oh, Eichi! Always so sharp; that I have, indeed, been tasked to manage the garden. Even the Princess couldn’t believe his eyes to admire my masterpiece,” the silver-haired man twirled before posing towards the garden as if wanting his dear leader to savor the flowers more.

The ES garden is always elegantly bright, but today seemed to decorate for some special occasion, or that’s what Eichi would think Wataru was up to. The background is dressed with different kinds of roses; god knows how he did that in such a short timeframe. Not to mention the colorful diversity displayed: with blue roses at the furthest, a row of white roses scattered neatly, concluding the bushes of red roses sat closer to Eichi’s area.

As the leader of fine scanned around, he spotted Yuzuru turning away from him, sweeping in the distance as Tori tugged his shirt; it looked like the Young Master was trying to get his butler’s attention.

“Hibiki-sama suddenly ordered his juniors to do this display. I was, unfortunately, part of his act,” the purple-haired man sensed Eichi’s gaze intensely on his back.

“You’re quick to paint me the bad guy here, Butler-san. Isn’t this too rude?” Wataru protested.

“Certainly not,” Yuzuru held firm, knowing full well the self-proclaimed jester’s sentient hair wilted from sadness from Tori’s shrieking response.

“Ah, how cruel. Your contributions have been significant , Butler-san! See, Eichi? How beautiful our garden is!”

Eichi’s pretty neutral towards flowers, but he knew Wataru found raw beauty in them - he always found fascination over random little things. Not that Eichi does it too, especially what he dubbed ‘commoner’ stuff like street food, though Wataru would wish to transform objects into some form of Art, some sort of presentation - and it’s almost all towards Eichi, filled with some selfish desire.

That’s why he was curious, Eichi trying to study Wataru to see what underlying message the magician delivered in such a method of…, the abundance of roses.

“Yes, Wataru, I just said that it’s gorgeous. But that doesn’t explain why you need to renovate our garden for…, well, how long?”

“As long as you wanted it to stay. I may have broken the rules, but it is up to you whether or not I truly went too far,” there he goes again, taking advantage of Eichi’s soft spot for him and running around with no clear answer. Suddenly from afar, Tori’s sensitive hearing must’ve caught as he then shouted,

“Stop going towards nowhere! You’re making Eichi-sama dizzy!” The pink-haired boy’s high-pitched shout threw Yuzuru off guard before pulling his Young Master elsewhere away from the lovebirds. Tori was hesitant, glancing at Eichi almost every other second to check if Wataru remained ‘obedient’ before solemnly following Yuzuru.

“Return to our practice as soon as possible,” Eichi reminded the drifting two before earning an enthusiastic wave and a ‘Yes, Eichi-sama!’ from Tori and a less enthusiastic but still promising wave from Yuzuru.

“My, they are inseparable,” Wataru drifted a comment, a single tear of exaggerated but genuine admiration dripped down his cheek, “A Princess and his Butler now walking side-by-side is truly beautiful,” he exclaimed with the tone usually used when he praised the juniors in DRAMATICA.

“They have grown so fast; it’s like time passed by us too quickly,” Eichi chuckled, “At the end of the day, I’m glad to see Tori and Yuzuru nurtured so well. I just don’t know, Wataru, it always fills me with joy to see growth,”

“As someone who is always by your side, I could tell just by your gaze at them,” Wataru commented, “which is why I built this garden of roses, just for you ,”

“...Excuse me?”

“You heard me, Eichi. I have personally, well, with some hands, created this heaven for you!” The jester spread his arms wide as his hair strands slightly lifted themselves by individual groups to demonstrate the ‘some hands’ part. To Eichi, because he was sitting and his boyfriend was standing, Wataru looked like those stand-up mascots, which made the blond giggle, but that’s beside the point.

“Every day I see you, I remind myself how lucky I am with you. Oh, how we were star-crossed lovers, soaring through the sky with no intentions of seeing eye to eye. And then, you forced me into your world - our world - by pulling my hair down and being with the loving humans that I know,” Wataru drifted his sight away from Eichi, but his purple pupils still dreamily narrowed, “You have grown, I have grown, and we have grown together. And I’ll cherish that forever,” he concluded.

“...You never ceased to surprise me, Wataru, but no matter how many times you said that, it still hasn’t answered my question, at least not explicitly,” Eichi tried to shrug the reaction off, but he slipped out a pleasant huff. God, his boyfriend is too good, pathetically so. Why did he deserve to be with him, anyways? Eichi Tenshouin is a lucky man.

It’s not that Wataru isn’t better, anyways.

“Well then, as you understand how I feel about flowers, should you know the answer right away?”

Eichi cocked a brow before returning his attention to the garden again. The blond didn’t overthink as he knew how Wataru usually delivered hidden messages, especially when they were catered to him. Let’s see, the blue roses - symbolizing mystery and unattainable - are neatly arranged the furthest. Then the white flowers, separated towards two sides, symbolizing innocence and loyalty.

Symbolically, Eichi could see where this was heading. The blue roses, as Wataru mentioned, the unattainable possibility of Wataru and Eichi ever meeting. Of course, that became false; just look where they are now. The white roses could retell fine ’s journey of forming a familial bond; how they gradually stick together as more than unit mates, becoming a family that deeply cared for one another - they would grow together.

Which then leads to the end of the rose garden.

Red roses. Bushes of red roses sit closest to Eichi’s area.

Red roses symbolize desire, passion, and crucially…

“It is because we grow together that we can understand one another. That is the beauty you have taught me, a knowledge that will reverberate in my mind endlessly,” Wataru then approached his boyfriend before leaning his tall frame down - the hair acting like curtains hiding Eichi’s flushed face.

Slowly, but assertively.

“I love you, Eichi,”

Before they sealed that final message on the lips.
