“I’ve known Ed forever,” Jack explains. “I know what her nervous breakdowns look like. This isn’t love—it’s a fuckin’ midlife crisis. And we’d be shitty friends if we didn’t intervene.”
I’m not even her friend, Izzy almost blurts out, hand starting to tremble where it’s clutching her glass. Jack notices, and opts to help, curling her fingers over Izzy’s until her grip is stable enough to gently coax the glass to her lips. “You’re serious,” Izzy rasps, and it’s right as she regains the ability to say it out loud that she realises it’s true.
Jack’s own glass does nothing to hide her grin. “Fuck yeah. This wedding ain’t happening on our watch.”
