Chapter 1: chapter 1: a little adventure

Chapter Text

‘I’m afraid the clone’s body might be rejecting Shiro’s consciousness.’ The words rang through Keith's head.

His brother was lying in front of him, dying. And he could do nothing.

‘I’m so sorry keith.’ Krolia’s hand was on Keith's shoulder, grounding him.

Keith could see it, he saw the clone rejecting shiro. His skin was pale, the white hair almost blended in with his flesh. It made for a sickening sight. Keith couldn’t stop thinking about their fight. He knew those words weren’t shiro’s, but they still hurt.

Everytime Keith closed his eyes he was back there. He could see Shiro standing in front of him. Shiro’s eyes looking at him with malicious intent, the intent to hurt, to kill. Keith tried everything to keep his mind distracted. He tried thinking about Lance, which usually worked. He tried thinking about going back to earth. He tried thinking about Krolia. He even tried to think about the two years he spent in the quantum abyss.

Nothing worked. Nothing could tear his mind from his dying brother infront of him.

He was glad for the privacy the other paladins had given him. With only Krolia and Allura there the black lion was much quieter. However he wished that Lance had stayed behind, his presence had a strange way of calming Keith down in situations where he himself couldn’t do it. And especially now that Shiro isn’t there either, Keith wanted Lance more than ever.

The pod started beeping loudly, multiple red flashing lights lit up on the pod’s surface.

‘He’s in full rejection.’ Allura yelled in a panic.

‘Then do something.’ Keith screamed.

‘There’s nothing I can do.’

Keith slammed his hands against the glass, pounding hard. ‘Shiro, come on. You can’t die now.’ Tears were threatening to fall out. ‘Please, please.’ He begged.

The beeping stopped, all the lights turned the familiar bleu of the castle of lions.

Shiro slowly opened his eyes, coming back from the dead was even more exhausting than you could imagine. The first thing Shiro saw was Keith’s worried face hanging over him. Out of instinct he embraced his younger brother, holding on as tight as he could.

‘You saved me.’ His voice was raspy from the lack of use, but the words were so very true.

‘We saved each other.’ Keith responded, his brother's voice was on the verge of breaking. Tears were spilling freely from both of them.

‘Shiro! You’re back!’ Lance's cheery voice echoed through the black lion.
