Chapter Text
Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian were gathered in Bruce's study, not the one that leads to the Batcave, but the one rarely used - the one with a hidden library instead of a large cave.
"So, what do you think this meeting is about?" Jason asked, playing with a small ball of fire he conjured.
"It must be really important if he's turning this into a family vacation," Tim said from behind his laptop. The three turned to stare at Tim in confusion.
"What do you mean, family vacation?" Dick asked from where he was sitting.
Tim just shrugged. "Bruce has been fixing up the cottage in England. He's been going back and forth for weeks now, fixing the wards on the place."
"Wards? Does this mean it's a magical problem?" Dick asked, still confused.
"If it is, why do we have to deal with it? Let the British deal with their own problems," Jason said, slightly annoyed.
"We don't even know if this is a magical problem yet. All we know is that Bruce has updated the wards in the cottage we have in England. Maybe this really is just a family vacation?" Tim reasoned.
"This is a problem regarding the British wizarding world," Bruce said, entering the study with Alfred following behind.
The group made their way to the seating area, allowing Alfred to serve them tea and coffee for Tim.
"The MACUSA has so kindly asked us to infiltrate Hogwarts. Our main job is information gathering, but we have been allowed by both the MACUSA and the ICW to interfere if needed," Bruce explained.
"Why do we have to do it? Can't they hire Aurors?" Damian asked.
"The problem with Aurors is that they tend to stick out like a sore thumb. They need people in Hogwarts, and since they know we've done things like this before, they asked us. They had originally planned to have an Auror pose as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, but one of the headmaster's friends took up the job before any of the Aurors were able to apply," Bruce continued.
"Right, so what are we supposed to look for? What type of information are we gathering?" Tim asked, laptop open and ready for note-taking.
Bruce set down various newspapers and ministry files.
"Due to the events that transpired during the Quidditch World Cup, the ICW isn't sure if the so-called 'Dark Lord' actually died that night. They want to interfere before we have another Grindelwald on our hands. Since their minister doesn't plan on doing anything about it, so that's where we come in. This mission is top secret, and only a handful of people know about it. This is good for us because, if the Headmaster caught wind of this, well... let's just say he'd likely hinder our progress rather than help," Bruce explained.
"So we go to Hogwarts to gather information about the Dark Lord. Then what? What will you be doing?" Dick asked, reading the newspaper from when Sirius Black escaped.
"Constantine and I will be gathering information from the Ministry and any other pureblood elites we come across," Bruce answered.
"Are we sure Constantine won't be arrested on sight? The British seem to hate anything remotely dark, and that man oozes dark magic," Jason said, scrunching his nose.
"They can't arrest him because his magic is different from ours. He's a sorcerer, not a wizard," Bruce reassured them.
"Anything else?" Tim asked.
"Yes, they'll be hosting the Triwizard Tournament," Bruce continued.
"That death trap!?" Dick yelled, startling Jason, who was about to pick up another Ministry file.
"Yes," Bruce said, rolling his eyes. "It’s also why we were called in now, it makes for the perfect opportunity to gather foreign intel. The Headmaster at Durmstrang, Igor Karkaroff, was a Death Eater, so get what you can on him. Though the main task is information gathering, you each have your individual tasks. Dick, your main task is to get to know the foreign students. Jason and Damian, you're tasked with investigating the professors, specifically the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Tim since you are close to Harry in age you’ll befriend him and ask about his previous years at the school."
“Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived?” Tim questions, holding up a newspaper dated November 1st, 1981. “The British seem to be lacking common sense because there's no way a child could have done this.”
Glancing at the newspaper Tim is holding, Jason adds, “My money is on his parents doing something. No way a baby killed the big bad dark lord.”
Ignoring the two, Bruce continued on, "You will be attending Hogwarts as Waynes. I know we don’t spend a lot of time in the wizarding world, but just as we have a reputation in Gotham, we have one in the wizarding world. The Waynes are an old pureblood family, and despite being adopted, that doesn’t erase the fact that you are Waynes. The British care a lot about blood status, but your name will hold a lot of power. Now, because the majority of the Waynes have opted to homeschool, those that do know the Wayne name will be shocked when they see that you guys have gone to Hogwarts. So when they ask, you’ll tell them that Dick wanted at least one year in a magical school, and you all decided to join in on the fun. Dick, you can make up some story as to why you chose Hogwarts instead of Beauxbatons."
Dick nodded as Bruce pulled out four envelopes, each addressed to a different kid.
“These are your acceptance letters, as well as a supply list. I have taken the liberty of buying most of what's on this list except for the uniforms. We’ll need to go to Diagon Alley for that. We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning, so pack some clothes. We'll be taking the jet."
“Make sure your Occlumency barriers are in top shape," Alfred said, catching the four off guard. They looked at him with confusion.
"The headmaster is a Legilimens, and he has a tendency to use it on unsuspecting victims. As newcomers from America, he's going to want to know what's going on in your heads," Alfred elaborated.
"How do you know this? Did you go to school with him, Alfie?" Jason asked.
Alfred simply raised an eyebrow. "I did. You should keep an eye on him as well," he said cryptically, causing them all to raise an eyebrow.
"What house were you in?" Dick asked excitedly.
"I was a Ravenclaw, though the hat was tempted to put me in Slytherin," Alfred replied.
"Are you joining us, Pennyworth?"
"I will. I have family I'd like to visit, and they will also be very useful in collecting information."
"Alright, boys, go pack and don't forget your wands," Bruce said, handing them their envelopes and supply lists. "We'll be leaving early in the morning, so be ready to go."
