Of course, Sonic knew that Shadow kept her first aid stuff in her bathroom. She’d been here before.

Shadow moved from the couch in a blur and stopped her with a firm hand on her shoulder.
“Let me,” she said flatly, but her grip betrayed a quiet urgency.Sonic gets hurt during a mission and ends up sneaking into Shadow's safe house to treat her wound because she doesn't know how to ask for help.

Sonic invites her to talk.
Chapter 3: Maybe In Another Life I was Yours pt.2 --> (In progress) Sonic and Shadow have their final race together before time claims Sonic's strength and stamina. They talk about a lot of things yet Shadow is left feeling emptier that in the before their race.

Summary
Shadow had not expected to survive the explosion of the Eclipse Cannon. She had expected to survive floating in space for what seemed like months even less.
So when she falls back down to Earth, she has no clue what to do. Her body is weak and broken, her chaos energy barely there after keeping her alive in space for so long.She forms a simple plan:
(One): Get out of the ditch she's in.
(Two): Find help.
(Three): Find her inhibitor rings.
(Four): Find out if Sonic survived.It sounds pretty simple, but step two might have a few holes because who's going to help the alien hedgehog that aided in the near destruction of Earth?
Meanwhile, Sonic has some issues that run deeper than survivor's guilt. Why does Shadow's "death" hurt so much? Why does he mourn a soul he never got to know? Why did she evoke such complicated feelings of admiration and envy?

Summary
Shadow tries not to feel too disappointed when he wakes up on Earth, in the middle of a large crater in a forest of evergreens, alive and in enough pain that his breath stutters in his chest.
He doesn’t get to die, he thinks, nearly reduced to tears as he stares at the blue sky and tries to remember how to breathe.
This is atonement. He doesn’t get to get away from his pain this easily.
Or; an exploration of Shadow's grief and guilt and fear.
Or; Shadow is no longer property, and he does not know what to do with this knowledge that feels more constricting than freeing.
