He remembered something Marigold had inquired about once: if plants can live on blood. It was a question that had come out of nowhere. Peter explained to her that whilst blood was rich in nitrogen, which plants needed to live, most of the time it was far too high in sodium to be a healthy substitute for water. When he'd asked her why she wanted to know, she just blinked at him with her heavy eyes.
