Chapter Text
Over five hundred years ago, the witch of envy, Satella, had rampaged freely in the world. The truth was that Satella was a kind half elf, and the witch of envy was her alternate personality. Of course, with the exception of a few special people, no one knew about this fact.
The witch factor of envy gave Satella unfathomable power. It allowed her to devour half the world and kill millions of people. What's worse, is that her victims would never again enter the reincarnation cycle, for their souls had been cruely ripped apart by Envy.
And then came the three great heroes. The Great Sage, the first Sword Saint and the Divine Dragon. Together, the three of them defeated the witch of envy and sealed her.. or so everyone thought.
In actuality, the three heroes were doomed to fail from the start. They did not possess sufficient mana for creating such a seal. The witch of envy was immortal, and dangerously close to being unsealable.
Fortunately for this world, the origin spirit was watching the battle. The Od Laguna, the heart of the world, the store of all mana in the world, had realised that the heroes would never succeed in sealing the witch. And along with this realisation came worry.
Now, before people misunderstand, no, the Od Laguna does not feel emotions like we do. It does not hate, nor does it love like lower beings. It simply exists to protect the world from destruction, and right now, the Od Laguna had realised that, if it did not do anything now, the witch would kill the heroes after their failed sealing attempt.
Thus, the Od Laguna began to "worry." It searched for any alternative beings capable of sealing the witch, but alas, the three great heroes were already the strongest individuals in the world. If the three heroes couldn't do it, what chance would anyone else have?
But the Od Laguna did not lose hope. Preventing the destruction was it's priority above all else. Hence, in a final gambit, it reached out to the true heart of the world. It reached out to the voice. It reached out to the voice of the world.

(RIMURU Pov)
The door swung open, and in came Shuna with a miniature mountain of papers in her hands. Her face wore her signature polite smile. Though I knew, better than anyone else, that behind this smile was a cruel and merciless woman.
<Calling her cruel is a bit too much, master. You sneaked out last night without completing the paperwork she had given you, Shuna only lightly scolded you for it, something which you definitely deserved.>
You too, Ciel? Was Ciel-sensei betraying me too?
<Stop joking. I would never betray master.>
Unaware of the internal conversation going on between me and Ciel, Shuna dropped the stack of papers on my table with extra force.
She's not being gentle with the papers at all.. Yeah, she's definitely still angry.
Really, it wasn't my fault! I'd been staying in my office for 4 weeks without leaving and doing paperwork all day tends to get boring, you know! It's not my fault that the dwarf brothers approached me with an offer that was too good to ignore...
"Lord Rimuru, are you perhaps thinking about the elf women from Dwargon that you met yesterday?" Shuna asked with that same polite smile, though her left eyebrow twitched as she spoke those words.
Does this girl have a mind reading ability?
"Ah-hahaha! Of course not, Shuna! I was just wondering about how good your cooking is."
<Master's deception skills have not improved at all.>
I'm trying my best, okay?
Although Ciel-sensei was dissatisfied with my acting skills, Shuna seemed to have bought my lies. Her mood flipped almost instantly and her smile became genuine. "In that case, you must be hungry, Rimuru-sama."
Yes! Crisis averted!
"Well yes I am!"
This is great. Shuna isn't angry anymore and on top of that she's gonna cook some fo-
My hopes were crushed with the next sentence Shuna spoke.
"Well, in that case, I shall instruct Shion to make food for you."
My body froze. A primal feeling overrode all higher thought as I felt only one emotion: Fear.
Shuna clapped her hands and said, "Well then, I'll be off to relay your orders to Shion, Rimuru-sama!"
Before I could even protest, Shuna teleported out of the room.
Damn that girl!
<It seems that Master has been put into a life-threatening situation.>
Ciel-sensei seemed amused at my unfortunate situation. I, on the other hand, had switched from angry to resignation. Shuna must have used thought communication by now, and there was no way of stopping Shion now. The only thing left for me to do was accept my fate.
I wonder how many people will come to my funeral.
<Master should stop wasting time and start working.>
Sigh. Can't even get a proper break.
And with that final thought, began another monotone day in the life of Rimuru Tempest
