Work Text:

Konner Kent smiled as he held a package in his hands. It was wrapped in a sky blue colored paper all tied together with a red bow on it.

“Thanks so much for wrapping it for me!” He beamed as the store clerk nodded.

“No problem Konner! Glad we were able to get it together in time.”

“Yeah, thanks! They are going to love this!”

“I’m sure they will; give our regards to Superman too.”

“Yeah, sure thing, bye!”

With that, Kon took off to the skies of Metropolis holding the package in his arm. Looking down at his watch he nodded to himself.

“Okay still got time, as long as nothing goes wron-” Suddenly the super heard a loud explosion from afar as a giant robot smashed around the city of Metropolis.

‘...I really need to learn to shut my mouth sometimes.’ He sighed and flew toward the bot.

Kon flew above the crowd of screaming civilians and directed them away from danger. “Okay, people please move away from the danger unless you want to be a pancake on the ground! And not the tasty kind!” He looked over at the robot, who was closing in on them, and furrowed his brow.

‘Come on, I know it’s a special day and all but there’s gotta be someone who’s around to help?’ Kon looked around and shook his head.

“Figures as much. Ah well, I can do this with one hand anyway!” With that Kon flew towards the giant bot.

“Hey, you big bucket of bolts! Can we do this at another time? I’m kind of in a hurry.” The bot stared at Kon and smacked him into the ground.

Kon braced himself and held the package in front of him as he flew into the ground. He coughed and spat out the dirt that flew into his mouth and grumbled.

“They never want to do it the easy way, it’s always ‘Imma fight you Superboy! Grrrr’” Kon brushed back his hair and looked down at the package in his lap. “Alrighty, then, let’s end this quickly.”

He set the package down on the ground and flew towards the robot, punching it square across its head. It lurched back and hummed as it began to charge a laser from its eyes.

“Oh no you don’t.” Kon flew down and punched it straight up in the bot’s jaw, causing the laser to blast into the sky. “Cute lasers by the way…here, I’ll show you mine!” Kon laughed and blasted the robot with his laser vision, burning the metal chest that protected the robot. He dove toward the melted metal and punched into the bot’s chest and tore into it, revealing it’s core. “Alrighty, time to turn off this toy-” He froze as he spotted a timer ticking down.

“OH, COME ON ARE YOU KIDDING ME??” He threw his hands up and lifted the core with all his might. “It’s one thing to attack the city, but blow it up?? People have no lives…” Kon grunted and held up the bomb with his hands. “Okay, this is a lot heavier than I thought.”

“Need some help?” Kon looked up and shook his head. There Superman flew towards the teen and helped him with the bomb.

“Hey, Pops…finally nice of you to show up.”

“You looked like you were handling it just fine.”

“I was until this party crasher decided to go off.”

“Right, come on let’s take care of this, we are on a time limit after all.”

“I couldn’t agree more.”

Kon and Clark threw the bomb into the sky and punched the bomb into space as the timer reached zero. Lighting up the sky in a flurry of sparks and fire. Clark slapped Kon’s back and ruffled his head.

“Nicely done, son.”

“Hey hey, easy off the hair, Dad…”

“Right, I forget that Jon’s the one who likes that.”

“Yeah…Oh right, that reminds me!” Kon flew down and picked up the package and examined it. “Okay good no damage…”

“That his present?” Clark asked.

“Yup, he’s gonna love it.”

Clark smiled as he saw what was inside. “Yeah, I’m sure he will.”

Just then the two supers heard more screams coming from afar. Clark flew to the skies and spotted smoke billowing from the north.

“A fire just broke out.”

“Really?” Kon sighed and gripped the package. “Alright, fine…let’s go then.” Kon began to take off but felt a hand grab his shoulder. “What?”

“Kon, I’ll handle this, you go see him.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, he’s been waiting for you, you know. Told me himself.”

“Well…” Kon shook his head and turned around. “Better not keep him waiting then.”

With that Kon took off towards the skies.

Jon tapped the table and sighed as he stared at the clock. Lois walked over to her son and ruffled his head.

“Don’t worry, Jon, your father said he would come get him.”

“Yeah, I know…” Jon frowned and placed his chin on the table. “He promised he’d be here before lunch too.”

“It will be okay! I’m sure he’s gonna appear through that door right now-” Suddenly The duo heard the door open. Lois raised a brow as Kon walked in. “Wow, and who says I have no powers.”

“Hey, everyone!” Kon waved to Lois and his grandparent who all gave him a hug.

“Konner!” Ma Kent kissed his cheeks and stared at him. “Look at you, you’re a mess.”

“Oh sorry grandma, had a run-in with a big robot…again.”

“Oh, you supers are all the same…” She pinched her grandson’s cheeks and winked. “Always wanting to play the hero.”

“You know it grandma-” Kon laughed and spotted Jon running towards him.

“KON!” Jon zoomed into his brother's arms and nearly knocked him over.

“Whoa, baby blue! Good to see you too.”

“You made it!” Jon’s eyes lit up as Kon nodded at him. “Where’s Dad?”

“Of course I did! I made a promise, didn’t I? He had his hands full but he’ll be back. Oh right, this is for you!”

“For real!” Jon beamed as Kon handed him the present.

“Yeah! It’s not every day you turn eight years old. Happy birthday.”

Jon quickly tore off the wrapping and opened the present and gasped as he pulled out a familiar black leather jacket. On the back, it had the Superman logo, stitched on it. With the words “Don’t mess with the S” embroidered on the sleeve.

“THIS IS JUST LIKE YOURS!”

“Yeah! Try it on.” Kon watched as Jon slipped on the jacket and laughed as the sleeves were too long for his brother.

Lois laughed and snapped a photo of Jon. “It’s a bit too big, but you’ll grow into it, Jon.”

“I love it! Thanks, Kon!” Jon gave his brother a big hug and smiled at him. “This is the best gift ever-”

Just then the Kents heard a knocking at the door as Clark entered the home.

“Dad!” Jon jumped up and hugged Clark as he chuckled.

“Hey, Jon; Told you he’d come home soon.”

“Yeah! Look at what Kon gave me!” Jon showed off the leather jacket to his dad.

“Whoa, that looks great on you! Oh, that reminds me, here’s your gift.” Clark handed Jon a box, who immediately opened it.

“Whoa, a telescope kit!” Jon held up the box and giggled as he hugged his dad. “I love it, Dad!”

“Now you can see the stars all you want!”

“This is great! Kon, wanna help me set it up?” Jon took his brother’s hand who sighed.

“Yeah, I’d love that…we can do some star gazing tonight!”

“Awesome!” Jon looked at his family and smiled wide at them.

“This has been the best birthday ever!”
