The Heart, while sniffling, lay in his desolate room. His bird-like wings wrapped around his body tightly, hugging himself. A few coughs later, a groan escaped the winged man. How long would this awful sickness last, he’d wonder, although his answer came to no avail.
A small squeak of the bedroom door allowed the Soul to enter. Heart felt a worried gaze upon him, and the awkward silence that filled the room caused the two an uncomfortable feeling. Soul continued his way into the room, sitting down on the edge of the same bed that the sick Heart rotted in. The sinking feeling of the mattress caused Heart to hum in inquiry, wondering what the other was doing here.
“ I got you some things, “ was what Soul started off with, causing Heart to slowly stand from his curled position.
“ A blanket, and a bowl. “ He presented the items that were laid in his hand, offering the Heart a smile, ignoring the fact that he could not see his expression.
“ Thank you, Mr. Soul. I appreciate it. “
The winged man replied, unknowingly returning the smile. He reached for the blanket, and Soul helped him get it. Heart covered himself with it tightly, wings flattening against himself.
“ I hope you feel better, Heart. Call me if you need anything. “ Soul speaks, placing the bowl, which the reason for it there was unsaid by the two, and standing up. The Heart coughed, before calling back.
“ Wait! Would you stay here with me, actually? I don’t want to be alone anymore. “
His words trailed off, looking to the Soul with blindfold-covered eyes. “ Oh, sure. Should I bring Mind? “
“ Bring me where? “
A flat, deeper voice interjects the two’s conversation, causing two heads to turn to the man standing in the doorway. A poker-faced expression lay on his face, as per usual. He walks forward, boots thumping against the hardwood floor.
The Heart began,
“ Mind? ..Well, I just wanted Mr. Soul to stay with me a bit and he asked me if I wanted to invite you, also. “
The winged man’s voice showed more shriveled confidence, unwilling to start any stupid argument with the Mind.
The Soul looked to Mind, giving him a quizzical look. With a sigh, the Mind agreed, feeling a rare pity for the sickly Heart.
“ If you get me sick, though, I swear I’ll make you feel worse. “
The empty threat lingered around the room as the Mind closed the bedroom door and sat on a small stool that lay next to an empty easel.
The Heart sniffled, clearly congested. He sat his body in a more comfortable position.
Soul joined Heart in his bed, sitting a fair distance from him. He suggested Mind joined, but instead, Mind turned his head away with a huff. Spoiled brat.
“ So, what exactly are you feeling, Heart? “ Soul inquired.
“ I’m congested, and my body feels so warm. “
The winged man replied in a complaining manner that was unintended. He pulled his knees into his chest, wings that were once flattened by the blanket reaching to cover his legs.
“ Right, so what am I doing here then? “
The Mind replies before the Soul can.
“ Quit complaining Mind. The least you could do is be with Heart, unless you hate him so much that you simply can’t stand even being in his very presence. “ Soul exaggerated his words, hushing up the moody Mind. His words earned a small chuckle from Heart, and a grumble from Mind.
The Mind then walked to the bed in defeat, sitting next to the other two. He was quite surprised this rather small bed could fit all three. He folded his arms on his chest.
The room grew quiet, only being interrupted then by a yawn escaping Heart.
“ I’m so tired.. no matter how much I sleep. “
He’d complain, shifting to lay down on the bed, his head resting on the pillow.
The Soul offered him a sympathetic look, also shifting to lie down on the winged man’s bed. His arm laid over Heart’s head, offering him some sort of comfort. The three brother-like bodies stayed quiet, offering the Heart time to fall asleep.
The Mind, after debating it for a few minutes, also ended up joining the two by laying down instead of sitting with a shrimp-like posture; and having a pissy expression.
After some time, Soul and Mind were grateful to hear the slow and steady breathing of Heart being fast asleep. Although, they didn’t dare move. They didn’t want to awaken him.
Instead, Soul, also quite tired from the uneventful day, fluttered his eyes closed. He kept his arm above Heart’s head, somewhat grazing his hair. The Mind, yet again being the last to follow the other two’s actions, curled his body so he could rest sideways. He closed his eyes, wrapping the shiny, leather jacket around his body.
As the two eventually fell asleep, some changes were made in their positions. The Soul pulled his other arm above the Mind’s head as he did with Heart as he slept. Mind also moved, an arm resting on Soul’s torso. The Heart also unconsciously moved closer to the two for warmth.
And there they lay, the Heart, the Mind, and the Soul. This one day, they could all get along for the sake of the ill, winged man.
