Chapter 1: Videntis-028c

Chapter Text

Site Alpha, Neragon

6 Kunnen (May), 2000

"So, what do you have to report, Mr. Edwards?" The director of Site Alpha, Evans Nott, asked as the employee nervously entered the office. Nott was a stern man with greying hair but looked no more than forty.

"Sir, we've received new data from our latest observation of Videntis-028c." The man named Edwards said, his voice trembling slightly.

Nott's eyebrows shot up. "The planet discovered by OSO at the beginning of the year? What new information could we have found in such a short amount of time?"

"Well, sir," Edwards began, "We've detected signs of sentient life on the planet."

Nott leaned forward in his chair, his expression becoming more serious. "Sentient life? Do you know what you're saying, Mr. Edwards? That's a serious claim."

"I'm aware of that, sir," Edwards replied, his voice still unsteady. "But the data is conclusive. We've picked up on unnatural light patterns and radio signals that are not consistent with natural phenomena."

Nott rubbed his chin thoughtfully, considering the implications of such a discovery. "If what you're saying is true, this could change everything. Are you sure you have enough evidence?"

"Yes, sir," Edwards replied, sounding more confident now. "We've run multiple scans, and the results are consistent."

Nott nodded and began pacing around his office. "Alright, I'll need you to prepare a full report on this discovery. Contact OSO and I suppose ASIT as well... oh and make sure to keep this information classified for now. We don't want this leaking out until we have more concrete evidence."

"Yes, sir," Edwards said, relieved that his report was taken seriously.

Nott paused his pacing and turned back to Edwards. "This is a significant moment for humanity, Mr. Edwards. We may have just discovered that we are not alone in the universe. Keep up the good work, and let's hope this discovery leads to something positive."

With that, Edwards left the office, feeling a sense of excitement and apprehension about what the future may hold. He couldn't wait to see what other mysteries Videntis-028c had in store for them.
