Work Text:
Sam was sitting on the floor in front of the couch, hugging his teddy. He was watching tv with Taurtis, who was sitting on the couch.
Sam jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up, tilting his head as far back as he could in an attempt to look at Taurtis.
"Sam, stand up real quick."
Sam's eyebrows furrowed. Why did Taurtis want him to stand up? He was watching teletubbies!
"It'll only take a sec, stand up, bud."
Sam stood up, holding his bear to his chest as he turned to look at his friend.
"Ah. Yeah, that's what I thought happened."
Sam was still wildly confused.
He got even more confused when Taurtis went to grab his hand and lead him out of the room.
Sam pulled his hand away quickly, pouting at Taurtis.
"Teletubbies."
Taurtis sighed, grabbing the remote and pausing the tv.
"Sam, your pants are wet. The teletubbies will still be there when we get back, let's go get clean."
Sam's face was bright red as he stared at Taurtis, slack jawed.
Casting a glance down at his pants, Sam confirmed that they were indeed wet.
When did that happen? How did his pants get wet, he didn't even feel himself going? He didn't even know he had to go!
"Wasn't me."
Taurtis gave Sam a look of pure exhaustion. This wasn't the first time Sam had had an accident and denied it, and it probably wouldn't be the last.
Taking Sam's hand, Taurtis nodded and hummed as Sam ranted and raved about how it wasn't him who peed his pants.
"Was Mr. Snugglemuffins! He was sittin' on my lap an' he's a little pee pants baby, not a big kid like me!"
Sam kept insisting it wasn't him, all the while Taurtis had taken them upstairs and found clean clothes for Sam.
It wasn't until he heard the click of a lock that Sam realized where he was.
When did they get in the bathroom?
Sam chewed lightly on Mr. Snugglemuffins' ear, staring at Taurtis wide-eyed.
"What we doin'?"
"We're gonna clean up Mr. Snugglemuffins' mess. S' that okay?"
Sam nodded, hugging his bear tighter.
Sam had his face buried into his bear the entire time Taurtis got him clean, his face burning.
"There."
Sam peeked out from behind his bear, looking shyly at Taurtis.
"All done?"
"All done, let's go watch teletubbies."
Sam grinned, opening the door and running to the tv, ignoring Taurtis's shout of 'walk!'
-
When Sam awoke he was quite cold. His legs felt sticky and wet, making him shift uncomfortably.
He jumped when he heard a sigh, making him pull his head under the covers, hiding.
"C'mon, Sam. I gotta change the sheets."
"Wasn't me. Was you."
"Sure, yea. Just get up." Taurtis was too tired to argue.
Sam stood up, his face going a bright red when he realized that his lower half was soaked. Taurtis, on the other hand, was bone dry, save for a small wet patch on his side.
"Wasn-" Sam was cut off.
"I know. It wasn't you. I wet our bed, I'm sorry. Are you big enough to go shower while I strip the bed?"
Taurtis had never seen Sam move so quickly.
Taurtis ran a hand through his hair, brushing it out of the way. He needed to do something about the bed-wetting. As much as Sam denied it happening, it was happening way too often.
-
"No."
"Sam. You need to wear one."
Sam gripped his bear tightly, practically hiding behind it, as if his stuffie could save him from Taurtis.
"Notta baby."
Taurtis sighed, setting down the package of pullups.
"It's just in case! I'll wear one too, okay? It's not because you're a baby, it's just to keep us both dry!"
Sam chewed on his bottom lip nervously. Well, if they both wore one… maybe he could.
He nodded, not noticing the breath of relief Taurtis let out.
Once Taurtis got the package open, Sam snatched one of the pullups and ran out of the room.
He came back a few minutes later with a not-so-subtle pout present on his face.
"Come here real quick." Sam walked up to Taurtis, a confused expression on his face.
The confusion was quickly replaced with embarrassment when he felt Taurtis pull back the waistband of his pajama pants. He yelped, slapping Taurtis's hand away and scowling, his face red.
"I was just checking!" Taurtis put his hands up in a "don't shoot" pose.
"Your turn." Sam pointed to the package of pullups Taurtis was still holding.
Taurtis rolled his eyes, pulling one out of the package and walking to the bathroom.
When he came back, Sam was buried under the covers in bed.
Taurtis turned off the light, climbing into bed next to Sam, who he had thought was asleep.
Sam was not, once Taurtis was under the covers Sam moved next to him immediately, pressing his forehead to Taurtis's chest and breathing softly.
Taurtis wrapped his arms around his friend, rubbing Sam's back gently until he heard his breathing even out.
The room was dark, save for the small light coming from a nightlight in the corner and the shine of the moon through the window.
It only took a few minutes before Taurtis was asleep as well.
-
"C'mon, Sam. We gotta get up." Sam whined, pushing away the hand that was nudging him.
He was too sleepy to get up! Why couldn't Taurtis see this? It was an injustice to get him up so early with no reason, it was the weekend!
"You can go back to sleep after you get changed, I don't think either of us want to deal with a rash."
Changed? Rash? What on earth was Taurtis talking about?
Sam blinked his eyes open, squinting at Taurtis as he slowly woke up.
His legs weren't wet for once, that was nice. He didn't feel itchy and sticky like he usually did in the mornings.
Sam begrudgingly climbed out of bed, a pout present on his face as he did so.
Then he noticed it.
Standing up made Sam all too aware of the cold weight between his legs.
The pull up he had forgotten he was wearing. It was wet.
Sam looked at Taurtis wide-eyed, all remnants of sleep gone from his mind.
His pull up was wet. How was he supposed to get out of this one? His mind was racing as he tried to think of a way to convince Taurtis it wasn't him.
"Wasn't me."
"Sam, I really don't feel like arguing with you today. Let's just get changed. I need to take mine off too."
Sam shifted back and forth, hugging Mr. Snugglemuffins close. Did Taurtis say he needed to get changed too?
"Wet?" Sam pointed to Taurtis.
"Mines dry, bud."
Sam's face dropped. He pointed accusingly at Taurtis. "You swapped them!"
Taurtis sighed. "Sam, I did not swap them."
Sam's face was red and his cheeks were wet with fresh flowing tears. Taurtis had to have swapped them, because otherwise that meant he was a baby.
"Swapped them! Swapped them swapped them swapped them!"
Taurtis put his hands on Sam's shoulders, making the other look at him. "Sam, you wet the bed."
That might've been the worst thing Taurtis could have said. Sam started sobbing.
He couldn't pretend anymore. He had an accident and Taurtis knew!
What if Taurtis hated him? What if he thought Sam was disgusting or that he wasn't worth dealing with? What if Taurtis told everyone!?
Sam's thoughts were interrupted by the sudden warmth of Taurtis hugging him.
"It's okay, Sam. I'm not upset with you."
He wasn't?
Somehow Taurtis had moved the two of them onto the bed, with Sam sitting on Taurtis's lap. The position change reminded Sam of the uncomfortable coldness of the pull up between his legs. His cries grew stronger as he leaned into Taurtis, burying his face into his chest.
Taurtis was rubbing his back. The repetitive motion felt nice, Sam closed his eyes as his thumb made its way into his mouth.
"M' notta baby." He mumbled, voice muffled by his thumb.
"I never said you were."
He didn't have to say it for Sam to know. Taurtis probably thought he was a big baby, everyone else would know too.
He cried all the time, he always brought his teddy everywhere, and now he was a bedwetter too. How could Taurtis not think he was a baby?
"Not s'posed to have accidents. Big kid's don't."
"Sam, there aren't rules for being a big kid. Everyone's different."
What was Taurtis talking about? Of course there were rules. Sam sat up, looking up at Taurtis.
"Yeah huh. Rules." Maybe Taurtis never got taught the rules? Sam would explain them.
He started listing the rules, pointing to his hand.
"Not s'posed to suck thumb or have paci. Not s'posed to cry! Big kids don't cry! And, and not s'posed to have accidents. Big kids never ever have accidents! An' big kids don't have teddies. Only babies!"
Oh gord. Who drilled these so-called rules into Sam?
"I had an accident once. Am I a baby?"
Sam's eyes were wide. Taurtis wasn't a baby! He was cool and awesome and would never ever be a baby, he was the biggest kid ever. Sam shook his head.
"Those rules aren't true. Everyone is different, and there's nothing wrong with being a baby. Babies get cuddles and love! Why wouldn't you want to be a baby?"
Taurtis made a good point.
Sam hummed, leaning into Taurtis, smiling softly when his friend wrapped his arms around him, holding him tight.
He was nearly asleep again when he felt Taurtis pick him up. When did Taurtis get so strong?
He didn't fuss, letting Taurtis carry him to the bathroom. Being carried was nice, Sam missed it.
"I need you to wake up, bud. You're still wet."
Sam whined. Taurtis was so warm! How was he supposed to stay awake?
Then he was set on the cold tile of the bathroom floor.
That's one way to wake him up.
Sam's face scrunched up in discomfort. Why would Taurtis set him down?
"Sam, if you let me change you, you can go right back to cuddling with me. I promise."
Sam held out his pinky finger. Pinky promises were legally binding.
Taurtis rolled his eyes, locking his finger with Sam's.
"Lay down, please."
It was over before he knew it, Sam was clean and dry and in Taurtis's arms again in the blink of an eye.
Taurtis was surprised that Sam didn't fight him when he put a new pull up on his friend, but he didn't say anything. He knew not to question small victories.
-
"Sam, wake up."
When had he fallen asleep?
Sam blinked the sleep away, rubbing his eyes. His thumb was wrinkly and it made him grimace.
He pouted at Taurtis, but didn't say anything, simply looking up at his friend.
"Have you ever heard of age regression?"
Sam shook his head. The clouds that had covered his thoughts were dissipating, which Sam was grateful for. It seemed like Taurtis was about to do a lot of explaining.
