Cat's Outt The Bag

Summary:

Hizashi is desperate. Someone has to watch this sleeping angel of a ward he has. There's only one person available... And he doesn't know their secret.

Work Text:

Izuku did not like hiding anything from All Might. He also did not like hiding things from Daddy and Papa, he realized. It was hard for him not to tell how he got his quirk, or even what it really was. But doing so would betray his beloved All Might, even though keeping this secret was giving him a yucky feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Still, he thought this was the best way to keep everyone safe. He didn't think Daddy would be too thrilled to hear about All Might giving his quirk to someone who wasn't prepared for it, and he was pretty sure All Might would have some questions about what they all did together. And for that matter, he didn't know if this was something he wanted to explain in detail.

He was supposed to be the heir to the number one hero. How could he ever explain that he liked to wear footie pajamas and have a pacifier? How could he express that he found comfort when Daddy wrapped his scarf around him, cuddled him close to his chest, and patted his bottom until he fell asleep?

It was too embarrassing. It was too weird. And even more, although Izuku would never want to admit it out loud, was the fact that if All Might find out, he might put an end to it. Izuku didn't think he was going to be able to go back to not having it, now that it was here. Now that he had known that comfort, he wasn't going to be able to let it go. Not yet.

“What's eating at you?” Papa asked as he walked into their apartment one Friday after school. He just put his arms up. It was too much, all the words tumbling around in his brain. Papa just scooped him up, happy to have a cuddle as he always was. He kissed the side of his head and walked with him to his room, bouncing him a little as he went.

Izuku sat on the edge of the bed he only slept in once in awhile. He watched as Papa thumbed through the dresser, finally pulling out some pajamas. These ones had a kitty hood, complete with little ears, and even a soft tail.

'I know you like to be a bunny, but I thought Daddy would get a real kick out of these.” he grinned. Izuku remained silent as the blond dressed him in the fuzzy pajamas. He was picked up again, carried against his chest.
“Daddy,” he sang out.

“Mmm?” Daddy had been dozing off on the couch. He spotted Izuku in the kitty onesie, and his face cracked with a grin. “Now how adorable is that?”

“Bunny is a little sad today.” he passed Izuku over. Daddy didn't pry, only laid down on the couch, Izuku on his chest as he began to pat his bottom. Izuku gripped his scarf in one hand, the material making him feel a little grounded, close as he was to his Daddy.

“Easy, Bun.” Daddy rumbled in his ear. “I'm here, you're not going anywhere. Relax, we can talk about it later.”

It was easy enough to settle into a weekend together. Maybe all three of them really needed it, Izuku thought. He dozed on Daddy's chest until dinner time, when he was served katsudon, and ate it all happily.

“Ready to go night-night?” Papa asked when everything was done. Izuku was surprised to find that he was yawning, drowsy, ready for bed even though it was early. It must have been a long week. He was carried to the bathroom to have his face washed and teeth brushed.

Even though it was early, it was nice to be snuggled into bed with his Papa. The lights were turned down low, and the lullaby playlist was started. Izuku felt himself relaxing, his eyes drooping. Papa hummed as he reached over and grabbed a pacifier, slipping it between the baby's lips.

“Need a snuggle?” he asked, not expecting an answer. But Izuku pressed against him, his head on his chest. He closed his own eyes, content there with the snuggly baby there in his arms. Shouta had to go out on patrol, and he wasn't jazzed about it, but at
least Izuku made it a little bit better.

It startled Izuku to wake up in the bed in his room at their apartment. He looked around, confused and frightened. He began to whimper, lip wobbling before he could stop himself. Why bother, he thought. He was with Daddy and Papa. One of them would come to his rescue. He let out a loud sob.

There was frantic shuffling from the hall way, someone hurrying, probably still mostly asleep. Good, Izuku thought. That was what they got for daring to take him out of the big, comfy bed. Didn't they know that bunnies slept best in their little burrows?

But when the door opened, he froze. Standing there, back lit by the hall light, there was not one of his guardians. Which was not to say that he did not recognize this body. He had so many posters, plushies, t shirts, figurines, comic books. This was the hero who made him a hero, both by inspiration and in the more literal sense of the word.

“Young Midoriya, what's wrong?”

“No!” Izuku screamed. All Might, standing there in his baggy white t shirt and sunken eyes, was staring at him. Was it shock, or disgust? Was it fear? Was it something even worse? Izuku felt the anxiety bubbling over him, and threw his head back in a howl.

All Might himself was confused. He was so used to knowing exactly what to do in a situation, this seemed impossible to him. How was his protege sitting up in bed, wearing a kitty onesie, with a pacifier on the pillow? Was he hit with some kind of quirk? Why hadn't Aizawa and Yamada explained that in detail to him?

He was beginning to suspect the toy box in the corner of the living room wasn't put there for any nieces and nephews around. Izuku's wails got louder and harder. All Might gave himself a shake. Yamda had called him, frantic, stating that Aizawa needed him desperately, but he hated leaving Midoriya to wake up all alone. Would Yagi come and sit with him just until they got back? They'd be as quick as they possibly could, and Midoriya was likely to stay asleep the whole time. Teenagers, always needing to sleep in, almost as bad as newborns, ha ha ha.

Yagi had wondered how Yamada would know, but he hadn't pressed the issue. It was an emergency, and he was happy to help his friends and colleagues. And yes, of course he had a soft spot for Midoriya.

Maybe it was some kind of quirk, he thought. They hadn't wanted the secret to get out, so they hadn't told him. Would have been nice, he thought, to be better prepared. It was an emergency, he reminded himself. Another piercing wail came from Izuku, and Toshinori was snapped from his thoughts. He hurried inside.

“Shh, I am here, to make you feel better. Tell me what's wrong.” he made his voice softer. Izuku just shook his head, fisting at his tears. Toshinori hesitated. Should he keep talking? Hug the boy? Maybe he'd hate it. He reached out, just slightly, put his hands on Izuku's shoulders. The boy gasped, looking up at him with the biggest, greenest eyes he had ever seen.
“Izuku...” he said softly.

Those arms were wrapped around his waist then. Toshinori only paused for a second before hugging him back, one hand going to the back of his head. He was still crying, still upset, but he wasn't wailing anymore.

It was either very late or very early, depending on how you looked at it. Izuku still looked exhausted, confused, sad. Even though he was hoping Aizawa and Yamada would come through the door any moment, he knew he couldn't settle the boy with words. He laid down on the bed, pulling Izuku down, too.

“It's all right,” he said softly. “I know, you weren't expecting me. I scared you. I'm sorry, Izuku, I wouldn't ever want to scare you.” he kept his voice soft and gentle, wondering if the boy was even able to hear him ,or only understand his pitch and intention. Still, his sobs are dying down, so it is probably best to keep talking.
“Aizawa and Yamada are okay, they'll be back soon. They needed some help with a villain and didn't want to leave you alone. I see why now.” he stroked Izuku's back. The boy wound his arms around his neck, burying his face there.

Toshinori kept talking, keeping his voice gentle. One hand went to the back of Izuku's head again. The boy stilled eventually, although he still seemed like something was wrong. Toshinori was sure he would never get Izuku to say what out loud though. He looked around the dim of the room, spotted the pacifier again, nearly pushed underneath one of the pillows.

Come to think of it, this room didn't exactly look lived in. It wasn't uncomfortable or unwelcoming it. It just had the slightly stiff feeling of being a guest room. That wouldn't make sense if Izuku actually slept here. Toshinori frowned as he grabbed the pacifier and pushed it to Izuku's lips, hardly noticing what he was doing.

Izuku squeaked and looked up, keeping the pacifier in his mouth. Toshinori just rubbed his head, stroking his curls. He sat up, smiling when Izuku fussed again, although he wasn't sure why that pleased him so much.

“You don't usually sleep in here, do you? I don't think Aizawa and Yamada would be upset if we laid in their bed. I'm sorry I can't carry you, but I'll lay down with you again.” he coaxed the blushing kid up, and tried not to focus on how endearing he looked with the pink under his freckles.

He walked him down the hall, towards the room he knew that his colleagues shared. He didn't love the idea of being in their bed without asking, but it was more important to calm Izuku. Looking around the room, he saw fluffy throw blankets, a hand knitted sweater laid out on the dresser with a green bunny. There was a general sensation that this was a better place for Izuku to be. He laid down, patting the bed next to him until Izuku laid down, too.

Toshinori's hand went to the boy's curls as he thought. It did please him, nearly as much as rescuing a civilian, to realize he was falling asleep. His hands were still in tight fists in his shirt, and he hated seeing the scars on those hands, knowing how they had gotten there. But the fact that Izuku obviously was seeing him as some source of safety did make things better.

“I hate paperwork.” Aizawa grumbled softly as they stepped in. The sky was turning pink and orange with dawn. He wanted nothing more than to collapse in bed. If he was lucky, he thought, he might get a few hours cuddling the baby before he woke and wanted breakfast. He was already planning on how to swap with Hizashi, so they could each nap. If he timed things right, he thought smugly, he'd probably get a baby nap in, too.

“Whoa,” Hizashi froze in the living room. “Yagi isn't on the couch.”

“So? He's probably in the bathroom.” Shouta grimaced, thinking of the bloody vomit the former number one sometimes had. Hizashi darted to the guest room. Shouta hurried over when his realized his husband wasn't speaking.

“Where else would he be?” Hizashi swallowed hard. Shouta grabbed his arm, silently telling him to calm. He strained his ears, listening for something, anything. He heard a rustling from their bedroom and went in there on silent feet. His eyes were burning and his head ached, but he still activated his quirk, ready to freeze whoever was in there, hurting the baby---

“Shh,” Yagi pressed a finger to his lips. “I just got him asleep.”

Izuku was in his arms, pacifier bobbing. Yagi pulled him a little closer, pressing his lips to his forehead. The married couple stood in the doorway. It was unusual for Hizashi to be speechless, and Shouta wished he was in a position to better appreciate it.

“We have a lot of talking to do.” Yagi spoke in a hushed voice, one hand going to cover Izuku's exposed ear. The baby stayed asleep.
“But I'm not getting up and disturbing him. We'll see you later.” he tucked his own head into the pillows and closed his eyes, although it was clearly more for show than him actually going to sleep. Without anything else to say, Hizashi and Shouta backed out of the room, closing the door softly, and went to the living room, stunned.

“I... did not expect that.” Hizashi blinked.

“The real problem here is he's getting all the baby snuggles.” Shouta huffed. Hizashi grinned at his husband, looping his arm around his waist.

“I'll snuggle you!” he waggled his eyebrows. Shouta just groaned. It was going to be a long day.
