Work Text:
Ennis looked up from the freshly lit cigarette, squinting in confusion once the wave of concern left him. "Twist, what in the hell are you doing?"
Jack looked over at him with a wide smile. As it were, Jack lay shirtless and spread eagle in the empty space on their living room floor. "Y'know dogs have got that whole "layin-on-the-floor-to-cool-off" shit made, c'mon lay down." he patted a space on the hardwood floor next to him.
Ennis was - briefly - too dumbfounded to answer. "Huh?" It wasn't necessarily that he was confused -- don't get him wrong he was damn confused -- but this wasn't out of character for his man. Something about the heat and his own sleepiness made the whole thing more strange. "I..."
"I wouldn't tell you to do nothin' I didn't think you'd like. Come on now, and lie down with me."
Ennis blinked. "We got a whole bed - a bed you made me fuckin' buy -" Ennis squinted pointedly. Truthfully, Ennis was just confident he could make the damn thing himself, and that it wasn't worth the money. Of course, he folded for Jack in the end. "and you choose to lay on the dirty ass floor?"
"The bed is fuckin' hot, and you know it, boy, it's why you ain't in it. Just try for a few minutes, if you don't like it you can leave."
Which was how the two of them wound up laying on the floor, staring at the ceiling, and passing a cigarette back and forth for the majority of the day.
Ennis had to admit, Jack was right.
