Ominis isn’t sure why he is dressing up.
Last year, the first time they were allowed to attend the school dance with the rest of the older students, Sebastian had some silly Hufflepuff on his arm and he and Anne went together, though he suspected it was more out of pity for him.
He sees her as a sister. Nothing more. And now, she isn’t even here. He is all alone.
He was approached by the likes of Pinch-Smedley, Avery and Tugwood. All of them - most formal and cold, clearly going after the Gaunt name rather than anything else.
Never mind that the fortunes of the ancient ignoble House have not been good for generations. His grandfather managed to stem the bleeding somewhat but now his father and brothers are busy squandering what was left.
Ominis turned them all down. He didn’t have anyone to go with. He can almost convince himself that there isn’t anyone he’d even mind taking there.
Well… that isn’t entirely true. There is one person he would want to go to the Ball with…
But the problem is, she is already going with his best friend.
