Chapter Text
Jazz has always been there for Danny; from his first time walking, to his first words, to learning that he loves astronomy and wanted to become an astronaut. She barely has any memories of her parents ever being in their life. Maybe when they started school or on birthdays. Due to it Danny has and will always be Jazz’s first priority, no matter the circumstance.
Finding out he was Phantom was a surprise, having watched him transform when he exited through the back door or Nasty Burger. She wanted to talk to him when he got him that not but decided against it. Though it did plague her mind as how he became Phantom and was he afraid of not telling her in fear that she would come to harm?
She isn’t sure but as she watched him fight and contain the ghosts, returning them to the ghost zone. Jazz knew not to worry about Danny as often anymore. He was no longer a child, he was growing and could fend for himself.
It did not mean that danger was far, instead it was closer and far more dangerous than anything she could predict. Having ghost hunting parents was the worst, not only were they focusing more on their gadgets, they posed a threat to Danny. Even the house they lived; known as Fenton Works, was a threat having been equipped with their latest anti ghost technology.
Sure she would divert any attention Danny received from it, working most if not all of the time. Every time she did, Danny would relax and give her a small smile in appreciation. It would warm her heart knowing she saved him from their ghost obsessed parents. Though she could only do so much before they found out and when they did
She feared it would be too late
Jazz had only decided to go with her friends for the weekend as a way to relax, spending so much time worrying over Danny exhausted her to a point. It was her friend’s that suggested the getaway weekend, just on the outskirts of Amity Park. At first there was some hesitation but when Danny told her that he would be fine alone with their parents for a day or two, she relented.
That was her mistake
She had only asked Danny to update her if he was doing things and to send her a message when he got home. That’s all she asked before they both headed to school. She had gotten home early to load her bags into her car and say goodbye to her parents.
It was possibly a good two hour drive to her destination and when she arrived she had received a message from Danny. His friends and him were heading to the nasty burger for food and a study session. She was at ease during that time, as she headed to meet her friends.
Then a couple hours later, he sent another message stating that he was heading home and would send her one when he arrived. The message never came and it worried her. The Nasty Burger was maybe a good 20 minutes or so from their home, it wouldn’t have taken him long to get home unless a ghost had stopped him.
That is what allowed her to rest easy for another while and when again no message arrived. She decided to call the house, hoping it would be Danny to pick up though that was crushed when it was her mother.
“Mom? Is Danny there? He didn’t send me a message that he had gotten home”
“Yes Danny is here sweety, he must’ve been so tired from school that he went straight to bed. I will let him know in the morning that you called”
The tone she hears in her mother’s voice feels coerced
“Ok, thanks mom. Sorry to bother you and I’ll see you Sunday afternoon”
Quickly ending the call, Jazz paced around the room. She knew it was a bad idea to leave, she should’ve waited til Danny got home. At least there she knew he would be fine until she got back. Jazz was about to pack her stuff to leave when one of her friends interrupted her, asking her what’s wrong.
Jazz had told them that she was worried about Danny since he didn’t send her a message that he had gotten home and her mother was acting weird.
“Maybe he was tired, how about you wait till tomorrow and if he doesn’t answer then you can pack and leave. Maybe also try to call someone else as well” Mia told her
Jazz was hesitant, though she relented, maybe Danny was tired if a ghost had attacked him later in the day. Against her better judgment, she decided that she would call him in the morning, maybe she was just paranoid for nothing.
When morning arrived the next day and she had fully awoken, Jazz dialed her brother’s number. It went straight to voicemail, now she definitely knew something was wrong. Danny always answered her calls at the first couple rings. Panicking she called Sam and Tucker in hopes he was with either of them. They both stated that Danny was not with them, that he had headed home and had not seen him since. She thanked them before thinking on who else to call. Then she remembered Vlad had given her his personal phone number after he explained to her that he wished to come to a truce with her brother. He had asked her not to say anything and wanted to do it on his own terms.
As soon as she found him in her contacts she dialed and waited anxiously as the phone rang. She so desperately hoped that Vlad would answer
“Vlad Masters speaking”
“Vlad! It’s me Jasmine, I’m sorry to call you this early but is there any chance that Danny would be with you? He isn’t at home and not with any of his friends and you’re the only other person I could think that could possibly-”
“Jasmine breath!”
Vlad intercepts not wanting the older sibling to lose air or possibly pass out
“Daniel is here with me, after he arrived at my doorstep in the middle of the night”
“Is he alright? My mom said he was tired and went straight to bed but I don’t believe her. I think she did something she wasn’t supposed too”
“....”
“Vlad? Did… Did they do something to Danny?”
She hears a tired sigh coming from the elder, his voice sounding strained
“Yes they did, I will let Daniel tell you himself when he wakes. All I will say is that the stress he was under caused his core to crack. It is something that I am trying to figure out how to fix”
Jazz feels her heart shatter at hearing Danny was hurt. Vlad had told her once, when she asked of course, that cores are a ghosts most prized and protected being. Not only is it their way to stay in the mortal plane, it is also their essence. Where their powers come from, their healing factors, everything. For a core to crack, a ghost must be under extreme stress or have gone through a traumatic time, enough for the core to slowly dissipate. As a halfa, he suspected that the consequences would be worse. For a core would be similar to a heart, broken enough the person would perish. Something he did not wish for anyone, not even other ghosts, it was too cruel of a way to leave.
“Please… Try to find a way to fix it Vlad, I-I can’t lose Danny. He’s all I have left, I can’t lose him” pleads Jazz, tears falling from her eyes as she wipes them away
“Do not fret Jasmine. I will ensure Daniel’s core is fixed, I have already started on research. I will let him know that you called”
“Thank you”
“Take care Jasmine”
She places her phone in her pocket, wiping the tears from her face. Jazz decides that she is leaving at once back to amity. Waking up Mia and apologizing for the sudden change of plans. Mia only smiled softly at her before getting up to help her.
Packing the last things into her car, Jazz gave her friends one final thanks and apology before getting into her car. She’s only a couple minutes on the road when her phone rings, she pulls to the side noticing it’s Danny and to avoid any accidents. She didn’t let Danny speak, worrying about him the whole time. When Danny finally was able to talk, he told her not to blame herself. It had been his fault that he didn’t notice anything when he got home. Jazz only sighed, letting him know that she would be speaking with their parents and would visit him when she was done.
Receiving a small
“Love You Too Jazz bye”
before she hung up the phone was all she needed to calm her. Getting back onto the road, Jazz now had a new determination and protectiveness for her brother. This time she’ll make sure that her pare-, no, Jack and Maddie won’t harm Danny any more.
