The Ultimate Game Plan

Chapter 6: The Rumours

Notes:

This chapter is a little shorter. But I'm trying to get these out pretty quickly, I have some time now so hopefully I can pop more before I find myself busy again.

Chapter Text

Kyle was never the type of brother to be excessively fussy when it came to his sister. Especially when they both had helicopter parents that never approved of anything they accomplish. It'd be pointless for him to fill in that role when they do it so well.

Kyle rolled his eyes at the thought of their parents. But considering the circumstances, he was allowed to be worried in some shape or form when it comes to his sister's first love.

To think she hadn't told him about this was a little upsetting.

When they were younger, Maps would tell him about practically everything. Whether it be about a weird rock she found on the side of the road, to something as significant as a mystery she uncovered in an abandoned warehouse.

He'd always be the first she'd talk to, if not second to Olive.

So it was unexpected to suddenly hear she had a boyfriend! Not only that but he literally saw with his very own eyes how true all the stories were.

At first, he wrote it off as petty gossip the girls were throwing around. But just when he was about to inform his sister about the rumors of her dating some rich guy going around, he was shocked to see them kissing by the entrance yesterday.

Well... that's what he saw from the angel he spotted them.

But Maps had argued up a storm that they were definitely not kissing. Kyle was not convinced. But he didn't want to push his sister on the issue. At least she had the decency to be honest about their relationship.

Alibt, hesitantly.

Kyle shook the image of them kissing out of his head, the thought was making him very uncomfortable.

He sighed feeling dejected, it wasn't even his business really. But to think he had to find out through a bunch of rumors was upsetting him greatly.

Kyle took a bit out of his cold pizza and sighed for the umpteenth time today.

"What's gotten into you all of a sudden?"

Kyle looked up from his sad pizza, to find the white-haired beauty, known as his ex-girlfriend standing before him with a tray of food in hand.

Kyle blushed as he realized how beat-down and defeated he looked and quickly straighten his back into a perfect arrow.

"Olive, what are you doing here?" Kyle asked, nervously.

Olive raised an amused eyebrow. "This is the cafeteria," gesturing towards the large room with her free hand.

The older teen blinked. "Oh, right." Kyle pivoted his gaze to the ground, feeling embarrassed all of a sudden. "Sorry, I'm just not myself today."

"I can see that," Olive stated taking a seat at his lunch table. "You look like a kicked puppy."

Kyle chuckled but it didn't sound happy in the least bit. "Yeah..."

"What's up?" Olive asked pealing at her orange. "You know you can talk to me, just because you're my ex doesn't mean we can't chat."

Kyle knew that... he was the one to tell her as much. Besides, it wasn't until recently she started talking to him again after their big break up, like the good old times.

But he deiced not to comment on it.

His relationship problems were of the past and he needed to focus on his sister.

Kyle opened his mouth to explain his peculiar dilemma but then shut it when he noticed Maps from across the room.

His eyes tracked her like a hawk. Should he confront her further about this guy she was seeing? Or wait until after school like they promised?

Because if he was being honest, he couldn't wait another second more. The anticipation was killing him, he wouldn't last until the end of school at this rate.

But he needed to remember that it was important not to push her. He'll give it some time, or maybe he could slide it into conversation while they eat lunch together-

Suddenly the guy he saw -kissing his sister- yesterday came out of nowhere. He watched intently as the two interact amiably with one another. They talked in hushed voices and judging from how close the guy was to her face it must be secretive.

Kyle felt a pang squeeze his heart and dread seep through his blood.

He didn't like how affectionately they were acting.

Maps had told him they were a fairly new couple and hadn't gone as far as hand-holding but from the way they were touching and whispering to each other, it seemed a little far-fetched.

Olive had noticed Kyle's distraction and turned to face where he was glaring at. She noticed her best friend across the room talking to a boy around Kyle's height.

She blinked, then turned back to gauge Kyle's reaction. "Hey, what's gotten into you all of a sudden?" Olive was half-expecting the teen to ignore her but he instead leaned in really close and whispered.

"Do you know who that guy is next to Maps?" He asked in a hush angry tone.

Olive was taken aback by the sudden closeness but did not react. She then looked back at the two and shook her head. "No, but there were some rumors going around that some rich kid was dating my best friend."

She turned her focus back to her food. "Judging from the obvious display of affection, the rumors are true then?" Olive said with a hint of bitterness in her voice as she picked at her salad.

That was an understatement, the tennis player thought.

Kyle looked over to notice his sister walking in the direction of the double doors, she must be trying to leave through the back door and into the courtyard.

Kyle quickly stood from his seat and shouted. "Maps!"

The bustle of students made it hard to yell over, but luckily his sister had heard him.

She quickly stopped in her tracks and turned toward his direction with fear stricken in her features. He wasn't quite sure what to make of that but decided to ignore it, in favor of shining a smile.

He waved his hand over, signaling for her to sit with him. Maps seemed to hesitate for a moment, unsure what to do. The boy then lean down and asked her a question, she turned towards him and started talking.

Then she pointed in his direction, giving Kyle the chance to catch the eyes of Maps' new boyfriend. They were such a deep shade of green.

He was stunned momentarily by how good-looking he was and wondered how his little sister had captured a guy like that. Just then the emerald boy then nodded his head, and the two made their way over to their lunch table.

Kyle suddenly felt nervous.

The two hottest topics of the school had approached him with an air of nerves. He could tell, it was all in the way his sister was walking. She seemed tense and stiff. While her boyfriend was a bit more at ease, or at least that's just what he wants Kyle to believe.

Kyle suppose he's not the only one nervous.

"Hi, big bro!" Maps exclaimed taking a quick glance towards her best friend, before quickly shifting them back to her brother. "I'd like to introduce you to my boyfriend, Damian-"

"Wayne," Damian finished, holding his hand out. "Damian Wayne, I assume you are the eldest?"

"Yeah, I'm Kyle, it's nice to finally meet you!" Kyle said, reaching to shake Damian's hand. "For a moment there I didn't expect to meet you for some time. Maps made it seem like you had a busy schedule."

"I do," Damian replied curtly. "But I can make time to introduce myself to the many persons in her life." He replied placing his hands behind his back, before he shifted his gaze over to Maps who was nervously fidgeting.

He noticed her gaze solely focused on the girl with white hair that appeared uninterested in the conversation happening next to her. "A friend of yours?" Damian tilted his head toward the white-haired girl.

Maps nodded. "This is Olive Silverlock; my best friend."

Maps then peered over to Olive, with a twist of her feet. "Olive this is Damian..." She didn't finish the proclamation when introducing him. That was strange, she didn't seem hesitant when introducing him to her brother.

He wonders what has her more nervous about the friend, rather than the brother. Damian quirked a brow then turned towards the best friend picking at her salad.

"It's nice to meet you, Silverlock," Damian said reaching his hand out but felt he had been ignored as Olive didn't even bother looking up from her lunch. She merely waved her hand at him, with a short roll of her eyes.

"Whatever," she replied.

Damian felt a tight throbbing enter his skull. "What?"

Olive slowly turned to glare at the emerald teen. "I said... whatever," she said nice and slow for Damian to understand loud and clear. Prompting the boy that was towering over her menacingly to seethe in anger.

Maps had quickly sensed a dark looming aura seeping from Damian's pours and it bathe the air with a heavy tension. And she began to notice that dark shade of green brightly glowing again.

Holy Cow!

She really wasn't seeing things last time.

But this didn't bide well for anyone, especially for Damian if he lost his cool.

Although this was bad all around if Kyle saw Damian as some sort of unhinged psychopathy. He'll never approve of him and prohibit them from dating, making this whole scheme worthless.

Maps quickly grabbed Damian's elbow, tugging him away from the table.

"Um," Maps stuttered, looking nervous. "Say, how about you guys enjoy the rest of your meal, Damian and I were just heading out to the courtyard to-"

"Don't leave!" Kyle shouted. "I thought you wanted us to get acquainted."

She did... up until just a second ago! Now she wanted nothing more than to leave. Especially when she had sensed some hostility from the other two occupants here. Knowing Olive, she wasn't known for losing her temper... but she sure does have a lip on her.

And Damian was a whole different story altogether, one she wasn't confident to tell. She frankly wouldn't put it past him to get violent or even aggressive when provoked. Maps sighed, there doesn't need to be a bloodbath, let alone during lunch.

Plus this wasn't how she wanted everyone's first meeting to go, it should be full of laughs and accepting one another.

Not full of hostility and tension, she really hoped it wouldn't be the same outcome as the others.

"Well..." Maps trailed off eyeing the teen pushing her tray of food to the side. "It seems like you two were enjoying your lunch together, I didn't want to intervene on your date." Maps winked at her brother, hoping this would work as an excuse to leave.

The eldest promptly blushed, before waving his hands in exaggeration. "Maps it's nothing like that I swear-"

Kyle was promptly cut off by a loud scoff.

"Let them leave Kyle," Olive replied with a roll of her eyes, she turned to Maps and Damian with a look of disgust. "Maps is clearly much too important to hang with us."

Maps turned to her best friend with a hurt look on her face, before speaking up and declaring loudly. "That's not true, it's just that I promised Damian that we-"

"Fine, well graciously accept your offer," Damian cut in with a tight lip and a harsh glare pointed directly at her best friend. If she didn't know any better, it looked like there were daggers shooting out of his eyes.

"Huh?" Maps said with a confused face.

Olive rolled her eyes again but harder, before gesturing to a seat across from her. "Then take a seat, your highness." Damian nearly snapped at her but held back and slowly took the seat, heavily sitting across the white hair teen, eyes still protruding into her soul.

Maps flinched, wanting to shrink from his menacing gaze alone.

Maps sighed again, then took one look at her brother. He darted awkwardly himself.

Then shrugged, before taking his seat next to Olive and Maps next to Damian. The siblings sat in silence as they watched a mental war raging on between the other two occupants.

Maps leaned in to whisper. "Damian, what are you doing?"

"You wanted to introduce me, what better time than now." He snapped lowly, still refusing to back down from the glaring contest. Maps leaned away and sighed with exhaustion, this was not going as planned.

This definitely wasn't a good time at all to be introducing Olive and Damian.

She wanted to break the news gently to her best friend and teammates but with the rumors going around, it seemed that everyone had beat her to the punch.

This was falling apart at the seams and it wasn't looking good for her.

"So, Damian," Kyle started, alibt nervous. "What kind of hobbies are you into?"

Damian didn't answer right away, much too focused on dominating Olive with his piercing orbs, so it seems. Maps elbowed the green-eyed teen in his rib and whispered.

"Damian now isn't the time."

"Painting," He replied back curtly.

"Oh," Kyle said nervously, and once again it went silent.

As long as you don't count the numerous of students talking around them but suddenly she noticed a hand full of them were seemingly very interested in their conversation.

"Um, how about family?" Kyle spoke up again hoping to defuse the situation with some light-hearted conversation. "I heard you had quite a large family."

"Yes," Damian shot back a dry answer again. It was starting to get on Maps' nerves with all the glaring and one-sided conversations.

Maps then spoke up and addressed her best friend this time.

"Hey, Olive, who would have thought I'd have a boyfriend, pretty crazy right?" Maps laughed, with a wide smile of her own. But her cheery attitude didn't seem to phase the white-hair teen in the slightest.

"Yeah, sure," Olive replied and Maps had thought that would have been the end of it but then she saw a wicked smirk spread across her best friend's lips and gulped. "Although, who would have thought it'd be to a pompous prick like him."

"Olive!" Maps clamored in shock.

"That's rich coming from you," Damian seethed with a smirk of his own. "You reek of arrogance and jealousy, it's kind of sad that you're un-accepting of your friend's relationship when you know nothing of it."

Maps began to actually shrink as a flame blazed in Olive's eyes. "Don't get cocky Wayne, you won't last long if I have anything to say about it."

"Such an ego you have there, do you truly believe you have such power over others' relationships? And here you call me the pompous prick." Damian scoff. "I'd expected this from children, glad you're proving your age."

"Someone who's so high maintenance would know nothing of how to keep a healthy relationship with someone as pure and kind as Maps." Olive rolled her eyes, folding her arms disdainful. "I would say... a week before you back out and run with your tail between your legs."

"You know nothing about me," Damian hissed. "I clearly have what it takes if she decided to court me."

"You really expect me to believe that Maps was the one to ask you out?" Olive shook her head in disbelief. "You had probably lured her into this absurd relationship with blackmailed or tricked her into being your girlfriend."

The oldest teen looked shocked at this revelation and turned toward his sister. "Maps is this true? Were you the one to ask Damian to be your boyfriend?" Kyle finally spoke up to confront his sister.

Maps opened her mouth, wanting to refute Damian's claims but he wasn't necessarily wrong.

She was the one to pop the idea of a fake girlfriend. In fact, this whole crazy scheme was her idea and she was being dragged to death by it apparently.

Maps sighed, no use in lying about it. "It's... true, I was the one to approach him."

Kyle and Olive went silent at this news, while Damian -the jerk- smirked triumphantly with the biggest shit-eating grin on his face.

Maps had the sudden urge to punch him, really hard.

"Well, who looks like the ass now," Damian spoke up with an amused raised eyebrow to Olive who looked shocked but also appeared to be seething.

Maps wanted to intervene but felt this was just going to get worst by the second.

There was no way of defending herself either since he had openly claimed she had chased after him. Ugh, this was stupid! Maps had no idea what her best friend was so angry about anyways, but it wasn't fair to take it out on Damian.

"Well, I hadn't expected this," Kyle stated, scratching his head. "Maps had never shown any interest in boys before." Let alone to ones who were super rich and had looks of Greek Gods.

Honestly, he had believed for a long time that Maps was aromantic.

It never really accrue to him to ask but he felt pretty strongly about that theory. Kyle smiled at the couple and nodded. "Sorry if we seem a little surprised, but it's really nice to know Maps took a shine in someone."

"No it's not Kyle, don't you see he'll hurt her if we let this go on." Olive snapped at her ex before turning her glare back on the smirking prick. "I refuse to let that happen."

"Olive," Maps pleaded with her best friend. "Damian isn't going to hurt me."

"How do you know?" Olive questioned. "You've barely met him. Do you know anything about him? Background history, family, criminal history, he could secretly be a part of a gang."

Damian was about to throw some insults back and defend himself but then noticed a familiar face in the crowd, staring rather creepily at the four of them. Perhaps the whole cafeteria was watching them as well.

Damian then suddenly had a great idea of killing two birds with one stone.

"Look here proud, I don't need to be subjugated to your abhor. Clearly, you have a problem with me for whatever ludicrous reason but you'll just have to accept the facts." Damian reached to grab his girlfriend's hand, causing the girl beside him to suddenly blink in surprise.

He easily dragged her along with him, before proclaiming loud and proud. "And the fact is, Mia Mizgouchi is my girlfriend. Anyone who has a problem with that can die choking on their bones when I'm through with them, is that clear."

Damian suddenly looked around the room with narrowed threatening sights. Everyone went speechless and Damian gave a rather loud satisfied huff, scanning the crowd once more, before firing his glare back at Olive.

Maps blinked at the man before her with awe shining in her chocolate orbs. She felt herself flush suddenly as she noticed the whole cafeteria had gone silent and was now openly gaping at the couple.

Then in the distance she finally noticed Eric. Before she could make eye contact with the boy, he spun on his heel and stomped out of the room, into the hallways. He wasn't the only one to have stormed out either.

Those girls that had approached her in the hallway were leaving but in tears.

Suddenly, Maps understood why Damian had made such a bold move. She turned to him with a smirk of her own. Who would have thought he'd be the one to make such a big step in their little fake relationship?

Olive's went pale and her eyes widen in shock. It had remained that way as she watched the two with bafflement written all over her features. She just couldn't believe this was happening. She watched as Maps glanced up at Damian with such admiration and it made her feel stupefied.

"You... can't-" Olive sputtered.

Kyle noticed his ex-girlfriend malfunctioning and quickly intervened by grabbing Olive by the hand and attempting to pull her away. "Ah, well I'm glad to finally have met you, Damian, but I think Olive and I have somewhere else to be, we'll chat more later."

Kyle quickly dragged Olive away and out of the cafeteria at high speed. Maps wanted to call out to her best friend to talk one-on-one. But Olive probably needed some time to come to terms with everything.

Hopefully, she'll calm down by the time they talk again.

"See you guys later." Maps said with a salute and a smile, then shuffled a little bit before saying. "So, I guess this means we're officially a couple then."

Damian quickly released Maps' hand and stomped away in anger. "I can't believe this, the nerve of that woman." The older teen huffed, folding his arms across his chest in frustration.

Maps blinked at her empty hand then shifted her gaze to the pacing boy. "Hey, Olive is a good person at heart, you'll see, once you get to know her."

"I'd rather not." He rolled his eyes as he began making his way out of the bustling cafe and out onto the courtyard. Maps hastily followed after picking up their backpacks, dodging a few glaring students.

The couple walked alongside each other once Maps had eventually caught up to the fuming boy. They continue to walk further out of prying eyes and into the woods, which had ironically become their regular meet-up place.

"Thanks for that announcement back there Damian! Hopefully, everyone had gotten the hint." Maps finally spoke up after they came to a complete stop.

Damian turns to take his backpack from the girl and strap it around his shoulders.

"-tt-" Damian clicked. "You owe me big for this."

Maps rolled her eyes fondly. "I know, I'm just glad we had gotten through that disaster. I didn't think Olive would be so hostile towards you though. Thankfully, Kyle was much more open to our relationship... I think."

Maps weren't too sure. Olive and Damian had made a pretty big scene there and it didn't give Kyle much time to actually get to know Damian.

It also hadn't given her the opportunity to do the same. It would have been nice to know more about the enigma known as Damian Wayne, but it seems like there was never enough time.

Since this whole scheme played out she had no duration to actually get to know the older teen. Maps didn't know much about the boy standing next to her, other than he was simply willing to help her as long as she returned the favor in full.

And that his hobbies were painting, but that didn't tell her much.

This could spell disaster later but Damian didn't seem like the type to take advantage of people in need. If he really didn't want to help, he could have rejected the offer and called her crazy.

Instead, he went above and beyond to make sure the plan is a success. Who would make such a declaration for a fake relationship if they weren't actually serious about it?

Not Damian Wayne, that's for sure! Maps smiled.

Olive was just being overprotective. Something she was fairly familiar with and understood but Maps was able to make her own judgement in people.

Granted that was another big reason why she conceived this entire game plan to begin with.

It was to prove that she could let people in without it resulting in her always getting hurt. Those she lets in aren't all maniacs out to destroy her and those she loves. It'd be a dull and limited life if she had that sort of mentality.

She trust Damian, that was enough.

"At least we have the rest of our afternoon free after school," Maps stated. "Maybe we can-"

"No, I'm leaving." Damian cut her off with a shake of his head, before whipping out his phone to text someone. He then began marching in the other direction that led further away from the school.

"Huh?" Maps exclaimed as she began to follow after the boy once more. "But school isn't over, we still have three more classes left." Maps peered down at her own phone to check the time.

They only had a few minutes left before their next class. "Are you ditching, Damian Wayne?" Maps asked with a disappointed frown evident on her face.

"Yes," Damian said without faltering from his steps. "I have enough of this hellish prison for one day, the instructors won't care that I am missing."

He knew for a fact that wasn't true but he frankly found himself unbothered by that. If they really wanted to make a fuss about him skipping the last few class then so be it.

He'll make up some tall tale about how he wasn't feeling well or something.

Regardless he needed a break from all this drama. He stayed for another second more who knows who he'll snarl at next. "-tt-" He was better than this but he didn't expect that White haired girl to get under his skin like that.

He needs to get himself under control.

"You're a Wayne," Maps replied back, throwing her hands in the air. "I think they would care."

"Ugh!" Damian groaned, before turning towards the startled girl. "Look if you want to complain then you can go back to class or you can continue to stalk me, I don't care but please just shut up."

Maps blinked owlishly, then her features slowly morphed into a sly mischievous grin. "Is this your weird way of asking me out on a date? Because it's pretty lame, you can do better."

Damian blushed, appalled. "Absolutely not!"

"Aw," Maps cooed. "This totally is your way of asking me out." She reached up and boobed Damian's nose rendering the boy motionless as he began to blush harder.

"Listen here, I am not asking-"

"Hey, let's ditch together, I hear there was this super cool burger joint downtown from here," Maps exclaimed as she walked past Damian and further down the dirt path. "They have this really cool deal where they give out free milkshakes to couples every Tuesday."

"Hey, are you hearing to me-"

"This could give us an opportunity to get to know each other." Maps said as she twirled on her foot and skipped further out of Damian's sight.

Damian jogged a little to catch up with the girl before finding her waiting for him, with her hand stretched out and protruding the brightest smile he has ever seen, it could rival the sun if it truly wanted.

"What do you say, boyfriend, is it a date?"

Damian looked at her hand and then back toward her smile, he let out a sigh. "I'm not getting rid of you anytime soon am I?" He asked already knowing the answer.

"Nope!" Maps said as her nose crinkled with mirth.

"Fine," Damian resided himself to his unfortunate fate, but not before smacking her hand away and saying. "But you'd be foolish to think I'd actually enjoy this... outing."

Maps shrugged her shoulders before she began skipping again. "Whatever, all I know is I'm getting a free milkshake!"

Damian shook his head. "Truly a child."

"Hey!" Maps punched his arm, before laughing.
