Katsuki was staring out the window when something bounced off his chest and into his lap. "What the fuck," he growled. He picked it up, ready to hurl it back at whoever threw it, when he realized what it was.
A condom.
"What the fuck," Katsuki repeated. He glared at Kaminari and Sero, who stared at him with matching stupid, shit-eating grins.
Sero said, "Little gift for you, lover boy."
"Figured it'd come in handy when you and Midoriya are getting hot and heavy." Kaminari's voice dropped to what he must have thought was a husky whisper.
Katsuki felt himself turn red. "Fuck you both. Get rid of this shit." He tossed the condom at Kaminari's face, but Sero intercepted it with his quirk.
"What, you don't need it?" Sero asked. He held the condom aloft, and Katsuki glanced at the door, praying that Izuku wouldn't walk into this.
The thing was, he didn't need it. Not yet, anyway. He and Izuku had only been officially dating for three weeks, and they held hands, they ate meals together, they made out, all that romantic couples shit. Except they hadn't done anything that—would require a condom. Izuku liked to kiss, to hug, and to cuddle, and Katsuki had found that Izuku also didn't mind doing any of that without a shirt. But if his hands slipped a little too low, Izuku would gently huff and smile and guide Katsuki back to his chest or his waist.
Which was fine. Honestly. Katsuki was content to bathe in that intimacy, because just being near Izuku was enough for him. Laying in bed with fingers entwined, listening to Izuku snore, watching him breathe—that was enough. That was more than enough. Whatever Izuku was willing to give was more than he deserved.
But fuck if Katsuki was telling any of that shit to these assholes. Sero waved the condom in front his face and Katsuki sneered and snatched it out of his sticky-taped grasp. "I got more use for it than you two. Come talk to me when you get hot and heavy with someone other than your hands."
"Ouch, bro." Kaminari sighed. "So mean! It's not fair—how'd you snag someone like Midoriya when I can't even get a date?"
"Someone like Izuku?"
"You know—cute, and cheerful, and, like, 'Kacchan's amazing!' When you're, you know." Kaminari gestured to Katsuki's—everything.
He was about to tell the both of them to fuck right off when Izuku entered the room, all smiles.
"Good morning, guys!"
"Hey, Midoriya," Sero drawled, waggling his eyebrows. Kaminari's grin bordered on a leer.
Izuku blinked. He turned to Katsuki for an explanation. "What's up?"
He quickly shoved the condom into his jacket pocket before Izuku could see it. "Nothing, nerd. Just stupid shit, as usual." Katsuki leveled Kaminari and Sero with a glare, then turned to Izuku. "Now, c'mere and greet your boyfriend properly."
Laughing with delight, Izuku leaned down to press his lips to Katsuki's. Warm relaxation spread through Katsuki's body the moment they touched. There wasn't anything like kissing Izuku. He wrapped his hand around the back of Izuku's neck to pull his boyfriend closer. Their eyelashes touched. He could feel Izuku's smile against his mouth.
"Good morning, Kacchan," Izuku whispered. His eyes were so green and goddamn beautiful.
"Morning, Izuku."
He would have luxuriated in Izuku's adoring gaze all day had they not been rudely interrupted by the rest of the class. Izuku gave an eep! as Iida marched over.
"I must remind you to refrain from public displays of affection in an educational environment! Such indecent and distracting acts are a detriment to our learning!"
Indecent? Maybe, Katsuki thought, licking his lips. To Iida he said, "You don't gotta look. If it bothers you that much, take off those glasses."
"Kacchan!" Izuku cried. "Sorry, Iida." As he scurried to sit at his desk Sero and Kaminari made obnoxious kissy-faces at them, which was irritating but, whatever. Izuku was his boyfriend. As if he wasn't going to kiss him whenever he got the chance? Idly, he leaned back in his seat, reaching his arm back until his hand met Izuku's crooked, callused one.
Kaminari whispered, "Oh, God, that's so cute it's disgusting," while Sero dry-heaved. Katsuki flipped them off with his other hand.
Izuku waited for him as everyone else shuffled out of the classroom. Katsuki wrapped his arm around his waist. "You want to eat together?"
"I told All Might I'd have lunch with him today. Do you want to come with me?"
"He won't mind?" Katsuki asked. He didn't want to intrude. All Might and Izuku had only gotten closer since defeating All for One. He was Izuku's hero, his mentor, and now, was something like a parent to him. Not a father—Izuku already had one and he was a neglectful piece of shit whose two great contributions to humanity were the alimony checks he sent Auntie every month and the freckles he'd passed on to Izuku. Katsuki wouldn't insult All Might by comparing him to Hisashi Midoriya. All Might was an important part of Izuku's life.
Katsuki had always admired him, too. All Might was the hero, the number one, the top, the best. But ever since Katsuki and Izuku had started dating, he felt awkward around All Might. The man had seen them at their absolute worst—the fights, the screaming, the tears. And now Katsuki was dating Izuku, his protege, Young Midoriya. He felt like an intruder whenever he sat in on Izuku and All Might's time together.
But Izuku shook his head. "Of course not! It'll be nice for us to spend some time together." He held out his hand, and Katsuki didn't hesitate to take it.
All Might looked tired. He always looked tired nowadays, but he also looked more relaxed, like some great weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Well, it had, what with All for One's defeat. Now the man spent his days focused on teaching, training Izuku, and trying out different hobbies. He couldn't crochet worth shit, but his cross-stitching wasn't too bad. Katsuki studied his latest attempt—a tree of dense green and a bluebird on one of its branches—and said, "Not terrible."
Izuku peered at it and brightened immediately. "Oh, this is nice! The pattern looks like something my mom would like."
"Well, it was hers! I asked her if she had one for beginner's, and well. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself," All Might said, sounding somewhat bashful. "And it is pretty relaxing."
"You should frame it," Izuku suggested. "You can keep it in the hoop, or you can get a picture frame for it. But it'd look nice on your wall—maybe with your plants!"
"That's not a bad idea. A bit of home decor, huh?" All Might rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Was this what they were going to be talking about the entire lunch period? Katsuki let out a groan around a bite of chicken. He thought it was impressive, how long-suffering he could sound with his mouth full, but Izuku elbowed him sharply in the side and said, "Kacchan."
"Izuku."
All Might smiled. "How have you two been?" As a couple, his tone implied.
Katsuki glared at him. "Fantastic."
"We've been—talking about what we were going to do after graduation, right, Kacchan?" Izuku's cheeks were pink. Katsuki wanted to bite them.
He leaned back on the couch. "Yeah. Going to work at the same agency together." They still hadn't decided exactly which agency, but the important thing was that they would be together, and if an agency didn't want to take both of them then it was shit anyway. They'd climb the career ladder and the ranks together. Katsuki would still become number one, of course, but he didn't say that, because Izuku still thought he was going to beat him and like fuck he would, the nerd, but that was fine. All couples had their differences. The relationship articles that Kirishima had sent him said that was healthy, so.
Instead he gave Izuku the floor and let him ramble to All Might about their plans. He didn't leave out a single detail. Izuku even mentioned the hypothetical budget for hypothetical snacks runs that he'd factored into their hypothetical living expenses.
All Might watched him with a fond expression and Katsuki knew the feeling. Izuku talked and they both listened, and one part of Katsuki thought it was gross just how domestic this was and another part of him thought, with a kind of calm, contentment that he'd never felt before, This could be forever.
Izuku talking about anything, everything that made his eyes shine so brightly like that, and Katsuki by his side, listening and pretending not to.
Eventually his eyes drifted to the clock on the wall. The lunch period was nearly over. Katsuki grabbed his jacket.
Something tumbled out of the pocket and fell to the floor.
The condom.
His eyes widened. Goddamn it—he'd forgotten all about it. Katsuki's gaze flitted to Izuku, who, luckily, hadn't noticed and was still happily chattering about their post-graduation plans. But before he could bend down and sneak the condom back into his pocket, All Might was already reaching for it.
"Ah, I've got it, Young Bakugou. Here's your—" All Might stopped. He scrutinized the item in his hand with furrowed brows, as if he couldn't quite believe what he was holding. Slowly, his eyes found Katsuki's.
Katsuki stared at him.
All Might stared back.
Blue eyes boring into Katsuki's very soul, All Might said, "It's—good that you two are using protection."
Fuck. Face burning, Katsuki stammered, "We're not—it isn't what you think—"
It was at that moment that Izuku noticed exactly what had been in Katsuki's possession. He blinked, once, twice, then squawked like a goose that just got punted by a soccer player wearing steel-toe shoes.
"Kacchan," cried Izuku, blushing strawberry-red to the roots of his hair. "I—I don't think I'm ready for that just yet!"
Oh, holy fuck. This was it. His heart had literally exploded in his chest once, but this was the worst moment of his life. Katsuki resisted the urge to scream. "No, Izuku, I swear, it's not—it's not mine—"
All Might made an incredulous noise.
"I mean, it is, but I wasn't going to use it—"
All Might made an extremely displeased noise.
"Goddamn it, listen—Kaminari and Sero just gave it to me to be assholes. I don't want to do anything with you."
Izuku said, "Oh," very quietly. His enormous green eyes grew wet. His lower lip trembled slightly.
For the first time in his life Katsuki wished that he had a different quirk. He desperately wanted the ability to open a hole in the ground and throw himself into it. He was growing desperate now, and his voice became scratchy and high-pitched. "Not yet. Just not yet, I do want to—"
All Might cleared his throat.
"Fucking—" Katsuki did scream then. He grabbed his head with both hands, fingers digging into his scalp, and let out a howl of frustration. "God, fuck! Okay! We're done here! We're leaving!" He shoved on his jacket, grabbed Izuku's hand and hauled him up, snatched the condom from All Might's fingers, and made for the door.
"Wait, boys, I think we should talk about this—"
With a shriek of rage and embarrassment, Katsuki yelled, "This ain't none of your business, old man! We aren't talking about shit! Forget this ever happened!"
It was difficult to run while dragging his boyfriend behind him, but fuck if Katsuki wasn't trying. He was sure that he was radiating heat; steam had to be coming out of his ears. His hands were sweaty. A few times Izuku's hand nearly slipped out of his, and he squeezed a little tighter, certain that the only thing keeping their once-burgeoning relationship alive was their fingers entwined. Loss of contact surely meant that Izuku would shove him away and call him an asshole and immediately break up with him, and Katsuki couldn't give him that chance. If they could get to his room, then he could explain, and everything would be fine.
Because the day was a never-ending fucking nightmare, they passed Sero and Kaminari on the way to the dorms. The two took in their flustered, blushing faces, the warp-speed at which they were moving, Katsuki gripping Izuku with one hand and the condom with the other and they both grinned.
"Going somewhere, fellas?" Sero asked.
Kaminari said, "It sure is the perfect time for a little rest and relaxation."
"Maybe with a side order of cuddling after."
Izuku squeaked and turned red all the way to his fingernails. Katsuki roared, "You two are fucking dead!" He would've made good on the threat if he didn't think Izuku would bolt like a frightened baby deer. As it was, he just dragged his boyfriend into the building, up the stairs, and to his room. He slammed the door behind him, tossed a stiff Izuku onto the bed, screamed in rage again, then took the condom out of his pocket and obliterated the goddamn thing between his palms. The room was filled with the smell of burning latex.
Hound Dog had taught him breathing exercises. Katsuki used them now, taking deep breaths in and out until his vision was no longer tinged red. He ran a hand through his hair. "Fuck." He sighed. His gaze found Izuku, sitting on his bed all prim and proper, hands in his lap, watching him with wide eyes. Katsuki said, "Tell me what you're thinking."
"I'm just mortified, to be honest." Izuku gave him a small smile and a shrug.
A bark of laughter left Katsuki's throat. "Yeah, me too."
"And—I'm confused, Kacchan."
He could work with that. Confused was better than angry or disgusted. "Okay. About what?"
"The, um." Izuku's voice dropped to a whisper. "The condom? Why did you have it if you don't want to—"
Katsuki groaned. "Because Sero and Kaminari threw it at me this morning and I just—forgot about it. I wasn't, like, expecting anything tonight."
"B-but maybe, um, further down the road...?"
"I'm still not expecting anything!" Katsuki snapped. "I wasn't even thinking about it!" That wasn't exactly true. He'd thought about Izuku in many different
situations and in various states of undress. But it wasn't like he'd marked a date down on his calendar or something.
"You've never wanted to...?"
"I mean, yeah, I have, but it's not, like. It's not important. I want to do a lot of shit with you, and whatever. Doesn't have to be that," he mumbled.
Izuku shifted nervously on the bed. "But if you've been waiting—I know that there's—well. Usually by the third date, there's—that is, a couple has, um—"
Since when were they usual? "Forget that shit. I don't care what anyone else does. Do you—want to—you know?"
"E-eventually." Izuku nibbled on his lower lip. "But not yet. I'm not ready."
"That's fine," Katsuki said. "Even if you never wanted to do anything more than what we do now, I wouldn't mind. So just—we'll go at our own pace, yeah? Fuck whatever we're supposed to do."
Izuku's face lit up. "Okay, Kacchan. Mmph!" He smiled so brightly that Katsuki just had to kiss him. Not a hungry kiss—not a kiss with tongue or with roving hands. Not a perfunctory, chaste kiss either. It was slightly clumsy, with their noses getting in the way and their teeth clicking together, but it was also celebratory because, thank fuck, Izuku still wanted him after that complete and utter debacle. It was a passionate kiss, yes, but mostly it was joyful. Izuku knew it, too, because he smiled against Katsuki's mouth.
Katsuki said, "Okay, then." He brushed one of Izuku's stray curls behind his ear. "Okay."
"But..."
He kissed Izuku's neck. "Yeah? But what?"
"But what do we tell All Might?"
"Huh? We don't tell him shit! I meant what I said! It's none of his business!" Katsuki ground his teeth together. "As far as I'm concerned, it never happened! We had lunch and then we left, and that's all! I'm serious, Izuku! Do not bring it up!"
"But don't you think he might have some advice about—"
Katsuki threw himself on top of his boyfriend with a howl of rage. He pinned his wrists to the bed with one hand, growling, and with the other shoved Izuku's shirt up and tickled his bare, freckled stomach.
Izuku shrieked with laughter. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'm kidding—Kacchan, please, I won't—"
"You give?"
"Yes!"
He rolled over on his side, watching as Izuku caught his breath. Katsuki smirked. "Better keep that weakness under wraps. Can't let anyone know Deku's ticklish as fuck."
"Kacchan's so mean," Izuku said with a pout.
Katsuki kissed him. "You bet your ass I am."
They laid there together, smiling at each other like two complete dorks, and Katsuki thought once again that this was more than enough. This was all he would ever really need.
